Last weekend, my daughter Julie asked me to take pictures for her at her school’s homecoming (返校节). As we were waiting in line, Noah stepped into the line behind us. He was quiet and was by himself. He looked fashionable with shiny suit and an incredible top hat. When we were taking photos on the dance floor, my daughter and her friends realized that Noah was alone and asked him to join them, and he did. Afterwards, my daughter asked him to take pictures with some of their group, and he joined right in, striking a great pose. The moment was brief and straightforward, but also meaningful.
Then I was just drinking at the table when Noah approached me. “I have autism (孤独症). I used to stay alone. But I want to tell you something. Your daughter and her friend group included me tonight and I was so grateful for it. They took a picture with me tonight, and it was the only picture I took with a group of people. It meant a lot to me.”
Listening to Noah, I realized how hard it was for him to not only come to the dance by himself, but also put himself out there and join this special night. He had a lion’s heart of courage.
I share the story not because I want to praise what my daughter and her friends did. I think my daughter and her friends simply did what we all should do: They included somebody who was alone. They were concerned about the people around them. They reached out to and thought of someone besides themselves.
We say the word “inclusivity” (包容) all the time. But we often forget the value of it. It’s a universal feeling, and all of us deserve to feel wanted and included. Everyone deserves to feel seen and to have our presence acknowledged.
24.Why did Noah talk to the author?
A.To express his thanks to Julie. B.To invite her to dance.
C.To make a self-introduction. D.To ask her to take photos together
25.What did the author think of Noah’s performance at the homecoming?
    A.Embarrassing. B.Admirable. C.Surprising. D.Shameful.
26.What words can be used to describe the author’s daughter?
A.Brave and generous. B.Honest and humorous.
C.Kind and considerate. D.Energetic and fashionable.
27.Why does the author share her experience at the homecoming?
A.To show the power of inclusivity. B.To show off her colorful life.
C.To let us know about autism. D.To praise her daughter and her friends.
    C
People don’t always eat just to satisfy physical hunger. Many of us also turn to food for comfort, relieving stress, or rewarding ourselves. And when we do, we tend to reach for junk food or other comforting but unhealthy foods. Unfortunately, this doesn’t solve emotional problems. In fact, emotionally eating lots of food with little nutritional value can weaken our immune systems (免疫系统) and worsen our moods.
Eva Selhub, a doctor who specializes in stress and medicine for the body and mind, says that if we want to feel better, we need to fuel our bodies in ways that reduce stress. But eating processed foods runs counter to what we expect. She added, “Not only does the original emotional issue remain, but you also feel guilty for overeating. The foods themselves can increase tiredness, anxiety, and depression.” Mixing these problems, you stop learning healthier ways to deal with your emotions, and you feel increasingly powerless against both food and your feelings.
Stress eating tends to be automatic (无意识的), such as eating chips without even thinking about it. Hunger, on the other hand, lasts longer. Therefore, Selhub suggests checking your stomach before getting a snack. Ask yourself, “Am I eating because I’m hungry? Or is it because I feel stressed or sad?” Most emotional eating is linked to unpleasant feelings, but it can also be caused by positive emotions, such as rewarding yourself for achieving a goal or celebrating a holiday or happy event.
If it is emotional eating, Selhub recommends turning to other sources of comfort. Breathing exercises, physical movement, and developing hobbies are a few ways. She also suggests trying to stick to your normal healthy eating schedule and make eating into a ceremony—a ceremony of nurturing and fueling your body.
It may seem that the main problem is that you feel unable to deal with your feelings that you’re facing, so you avoid them with food. Allowing yourself to feel uncomfortable emotions can be scary. But the truth is that when we don’t worry about our emotions all the time, even the most painful and difficult feelings will die down quickly. Try to become mindful and learn how to stay connected with your moment-to-moment emotional experience.
28.What does the underlined phrase “runs counter to” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
    A.Goes through. B.Builds up. C.Responds to. D.Goes against.
29.What are we advised to do before eating?
A.Control our eating time. B.Figure out our eating reasons.
C.Prepare more healthy foods. D.Clear up our terrible moods.
30.Which way can help us stay away from emotional eating?
A.Eating junk food. B.Playing computer games day and night.
C.Taking part in a festive ceremony. D.Insisting on your normal healthy eating schedule
31.What may be a suitable title for the text?
A.What food to choose for a healthier life B.Why bad eating habits destroy health
C.How to deal with emotional eating D.What to eat influences our moods

The Royal Mint has announced plans for a new factory about where it will process electronic junk to extract (提炼) precious metals for coins and gold bars. The factory is scheduled to open at Llantrisant in South Wales next year. It will be the first of its kind in the world.
The Royal Mint is a government-owned company that makes coins for the UK and lots of other countries. Most of its coins are made from cheaper metals such as copper, tin and zinc, but the Mint sometimes makes coins and medals from precious metals like gold and silver. It also makes gold bars, known as bullion (金条). Countries and banks like to keep gold bars because they are very valuable and their price doesn’t tend to go up or down suddenly.
The precious metals used by the Mint are mostly mined (开采) from the ground but now it plans to make use of the large amounts of electronic waste (known as e-waste) that is thrown away in the UK each year. Many electronic devices use small quantities of precious metals such as gold and silver because they are good conductors (导体) of electricity. However, it is reported that just 20% of old electronics are recycled worldwide. This is not just a waste, but it can be dangerous, because when e-waste is buried in rubbish dumps, metals and chemicals can cause great damage to the environment.
At present, e-waste from the UK is sent abroad to be processed to gain precious metals. The new factory will use chemical reactions to do the same job much quicker and use far less energy. The process can extract 99% of the precious metals from plastic circuit boards (电路板) within a few seconds, and could provide the Mint with hundreds of kilograms of gold each year.
“Our new factory will see the Royal Mint become a leader in sustainably sourced (可持续来源的) metals,” said Anne Jessopp, the Mint’s chief executive. She added that the factory would also help the UK process its own e-waste, rather than sending it to other countries.
32.What does the Royal Mint’s new factory intend to do?
A.To get precious metals from e-waste. B.To find new places to recycle e-waste.
C.To separate the garbage into groups. D.To make coins from cheap metals.
33.What do we know about global e-waste according to the third paragraph?
    A.Recycling it is challenging. B.Most e-waste isn’t now recycled.
C.It does little harm to the environment. D.Most e-waste is now fully used by people.
34.The new factory’s advantage over other factories abroad is ______.
A.It uses no chemical reactions. B.It can process all kinds of e-waste.
C.It is highly effective by using less energy. D.It can extract 100% of the precious metals.
35.What is the best title for the text?
A.E-waste recycling—a new way to extract precious metals. B.How to make full use of e-waste?
C.Is it right to send e-waste to other countries? D.The Royal Mint—the coin-making factory.

Gemma jumped off the school bus feeling thoroughly miserable. Today had been one of the worst days of her life. How could she show her face at school ever again? It was a total shame. She would not face her classmates at all next Monday morning.
Gemma walked slowly up the tree-lined hill towards the park. She needed time alone to think and cry. Her mum wouldn’t be home from work for another hour or so and she needed fresh air and sunlight after being in school all day. She needed so much more than that; what she needed was a brain transplant. Reading aloud in class today had been terrifying, annoying and embarrassing; she hated every moment of it. She was sweating, her voice shook, her face flushed red, and her heart pounded uncontrollably. Breathing normally was simply impossible in the fear and panic she felt. Gemma wished the ground had opened up and swallowed her whole, which would have been preferable. She stood before the class feeling like a fool. She had heard the whispered comments between her classmates, and had seen the look on her English teacher’s face as she went back to her seat.
Gemma headed for the bench in the walled rose garden that she often visited, as far away from people as possible. She took off her heavy backpack and put it down heavily on the hard seat. The backpack was full of school books and she was glad to get it off her shoulders. She never wanted to go back to school. She sighed deeply, buried her face in her hands, and began to sob in despair. She was sure other kids didn’t have this problem. Some of her classmates even looked like they were enjoying reading aloud and took great delight in being the centre of attention. Gemma didn’t know what she was going to do.
“Hello, are you alright, dear?” Scared, Gemma abruptly pulled her hands away from her face and looked up in the direction of the voice, embarrassed that someone had seen her crying.
    注意:续写词数应为150左右。
    Paragraph 1:
Unexpectedly, her English teacher came up and watched her with kindness and concern.
    _______________________________________________________________________________________________
    _______________________________________________________________________________________________
    Paragraph 2:
Gemma walked home feeling like she was walking a little taller and there was a spring in her steps.

    One possible version:
Unexpectedly, her English teacher came up and watched her with kindness and concern. Sitting down on the bench, next to Gemma, the teacher patted her shoulder gently, saying, “I know you were just too nervous, but it’s okay. Actually, most of us, like you, once experienced reading setbacks in public. As the saying goes, practice makes perfect. With more practice, you’re sure to make it next time, aren’t you?” Gemma’s English teacher had a long heart-to-heart talk with her. Realizing her lack of practice, Gemma felt a sudden sense of relief. She was aware of what to do then. When they walked out of the rose park hand in hand, Gemma felt like a wholly different figure.
Gemma walked home feeling like she was walking a little taller and there was a spring in her steps. Today, what her teacher said made her think a lot. She had already got a detailed plan for what to do next. Now she began to practise reading aloud in front of the mirror in her room time and time again. “What are you doing, Gemma?” Her mother’s anxious voice came from the door. Gemma told Mum what had happened. Her mum gave Gemma a big thumbs-up and encouraged her to overcome the difficulty bravely.

    七选五
    导语:本文主要讲述了音乐是如何改善生活的。
36.A 根据前文“People have always sung songs, danced to music, and played musical instruments together”讲音乐在生活中的普遍存在,以及后文“...yet it’s often taken for granted”可知it是指音乐是生活当中重要和必不可少的一部分,然而这个被认为理所当然的。
37.F 根据本段的首句“music has no borders or boundaries”音乐是没有国界的,以及后面“so it’s easy for us with our differences to find common ground”因此求同存异很容易,可知音乐是一门通用语言。
38.E 设空处位于段首,应是本段的主题句。根据后文“listening to music can help reduce stress levels”以及“When we listen to music, our brain releases (释放) dopamine, which helps control our mood”可知本段主要讲音乐可以帮助放松和减压。
39.C 根据本段首句“it has been proven that music plays a key role in brain development”以及后文“It’s been found that music can help you remember things better by connecting them with familiar or meaningful pieces of music”可知音乐对记忆也是有帮助的。

    Text 2
M: Susan doesn’t come to the party, so I’ll have 14.
W: Let’s invite two more since the room in the restaurant is big enough.
M: Ok! I’ll phone Alisa and Julia right now.
    Text 3
M: What do you think of the jacket?
W: I like the style, but it is a little dark. Do you have this one in any other colors in my size.
M: Sure. Here’s one in light blue.
    Text 4
M: Are these dishes new, Sandra?
W: No! I bought them five months ago, from the same shop where I got my blue cups.
    Text 5
W: Did you hear Bill who lives next door hurt his back in a baseball game?
M: Oh, no wonder I saw him at health services.
    Text 6
W: May I go to the chemistry lab before going home, Mr. Liu?
    M: What for?
W: I want to do that experiment once again.
M: Then you must follow me.
W: I’m sure I can do it myself.
M: Well...all right. You can go by yourself. Make sure everything is taken good care of, especially the electrical equipment
W: I certainly will. Anything else?
M: Don’t forget to turn off the light before you leave.
    W: I won’t.
    Text 7
W: Jeff, I’m fed up with these TV programs. What shall we do this afternoon?
M: Let’s go to the lake for a swim!
W: Swim in the lake in this weather? Are you kidding?
M: Don’t worry about the weather, Pat. It’ll be fine today. I’ve checked the forecast.
W: Weather forecasters are not always right. Look out of the window, Jeff. Can you see the trees? Can you see how windy it is? Just forget the forecast, Jeff. It’s going to rain. There’s going to be a storm!
    Text 8
M: Hi, Hannah. How are you?
W: Fine thanks, John. And you?
M: I’m excited. We’re going on holiday to the Greek island on Friday this week.
W: Really? It’s surprising you’ll go so soon. I remember on Monday you told me you would go there next Thursday. How are you getting there?
M: We are flying to Athens. Then we’ll catch a train to Piraeus and get on a boat to Greek island. Have you ever been to Greece?
W: We went there last summer. It was wonderful. You’ve chosen a good tourist attraction. It is worth visiting.
M: That’s great. Obviously you had a great time there. What do you think I should take with me?
W: Have you bought a guidebook? You can borrow mine if you want. We won’t need it this year.
M: Thanks. That means I won’t have to buy one. Would you like me to bring something back from Greece for you?
    Text 9
W: Good evening, Mr. Hunt. What is your question?
M: I’ve been learning French for some years. I’ve learned quite a lot of grammar and words. But when I went to France this summer, I couldn’t understand the French people at all. I’ve lost heart and even want to give it up.
W: It is a problem. How long have you been studying French?
    M: About four years.
W: How exactly? Going to an evening class, using tapes?
M: I’ve been going to and evening class and I’ve watched quite a lot of BBC television programs.
W: They’re very good. Did you buy the BBC book?
M: No, we use a different book in the class. But I watched the programs.
W: I see...Mr. Hunt. I always think that learning a language is rather like learning to drive. Now you couldn’t learn to drive a car by sitting in a classroom or watching television. I think what you need is a lot of practice in using the language.
    Text 10
W: Hello, everyone. My name’s Jane Baker and I’d like to welcome you all to our show, “Alien Earth”. Now before you start your tour of the show, I’d like to give you some important information to make your visit more enjoyable. The show is on two floors. On the ground floor, you’ll find our wonderful collection of photographs of UFOs from 1900 to the present day. You can also read stories and watch videos of UFOs sightings. On the first floor you can see a collection of objects collected from areas near sightings. You can also speak to Dr. Charles who is a UFO expert for the government. Also on the first floor is a gift shop selling books of UFOs and other gifts and a small coffee shop where you can buy a cup of coffee. Let me remind you, ladies and gentlemen, the guidebooks are available at the reception desk for $3.50 and you can buy one. And finally, remember that this Center Theater is open until 4 o’clock every day. Thank you and enjoy your visit.
