Text 1
M: Hey, do you want to go to the gym with me on Saturday?
W: Sure! When I try to go by myself, I always end up at the café eating brunch instead. I have no motivation to work out alone, so I’m glad you asked!
Text 2
W: Good morning, Dr. Cruz.
M: Hello, Mrs. Moore. Who’s your visitor?
W: Oh, this is my daughter, Heather. She’s a writer and her husband’s a teacher.
Text 3
M: What’s wrong, Rachel? You aren’t looking yourself!
W: My mum’s got a job in Liverpool! I’ve finally made friends after years of loneliness here. Now off we go again. Why can’t my mum have a steady job?
Text 4
M: Home at last! That was the last time we had a holiday in the Lake District.
W: It was beautiful! At least it didn’t snow.
M: I would have preferred snow to constant rain. We had never seen the sun there!
Text 5
W: San Francisco General Hospital.
M: Hello. This is an emergency. Can you please send an ambulance?
W: OK, OK. Just try to calm down, sir. And tell me where you are.
M: Right. Uh, we are at La Traviata Restaurant in North Beach.
Text 6
M: I went to the bottle bank (玻璃瓶回收站) today, and guess what, it was completely full!
W: Oh, that’s a shame. Did you have to bring all the glass home again?
M: Yes. There was a sign saying not to leave anything on the ground. I really don’t understand why they can’t empty it more often. What’s the point of having a bottle bank if you can’t put any bottles into it?
W: You’re right. Maybe you should write a letter to a newspaper about that.
Text 7
W: Harry, guess what! I’ve just received an email from Pamela. She and Peter are coming down to see us this weekend.
M: Oh, that’s good news! We haven’t seen them for ages.
W: Yeah. The last time we met them was at our wedding three years ago.
M: Did Pamela mention how long they’ll stay?
W: About one week.
M: Great! I can’t wait to show them around our new house.
W: Me too. We haven’t had any guests since we moved in here. If the weather is fine, we can have a barbecue in the garden.
M: Good idea. I’ll go to the market tomorrow to buy all the things we’ll need.
Text 8
M: Tina, I’m sorry to bother you. But I’m afraid there is a big problem.
W: Oh, what’s up then?
M: You told me last week that you would deal with the faulty desks returned by HDC, one of our local customers.
W: Yes, that’s right. I did send them the replacements for all the desks last Monday.
M: Well, the thing is, did you realize there were two kinds of faulty desks? The customer only received one kind of desks.
W: Oh dear, I didn’t realize there were two kinds. I’ll send them the other kind right away.
M: The problem is that now they want to get their money back.
W: Oh dear, that’s really bad. I’ll phone them now and explain everything. I’m really sorry about this.
M: That’s all right. There’s still time to solve the problem. I think it would be best to visit them and explain the mistake face to face.
W: OK. I’ll make arrangements and visit them as soon as possible. Sorry again!
Text 9
M: How was your trip?
W: Great! I went all over the world. I started out in Germany and then made my way to Spain and France. After Europe, I went to Egypt and Turkey, then over to India and China. From China, I traveled to Thailand and Indonesia, then spent some time in Australia. I was planning on going to South America, but I ran out of money.
M: How long were you gone for? It felt like years.
W: Almost half a year. I was gone for five months. It was amazing, and I learned so much about myself and the world around me.
M: A few years ago, I spent two weeks in England and Ireland, but that’s it. I almost went to Brazil for work last year, but my boss changed his mind. What are you up to now that you’re home?
W: I have to find a place to live. Right now, I’m staying with my parents. I also have to find a job.
M: What kind of job are you looking for?
W: Anything in the food business.
M: I have a friend who works at a nice restaurant. I can introduce you to him.
W: Great!
Text 10
W: Sweetest Day is always the third Saturday in October. This holiday is much more important in some regions than in others (Detroit, Cleveland and Buffalo are the biggest Sweetest Day cities). But this holiday is gaining in popularity every year throughout the country. Sweetest Day is celebrated to make someone happy. It is an occasion which offers an opportunity to remember not only the sick, aged, and orphaned, but also friends and relatives. Over 60 years ago, a Cleveland man, believing that the city’s orphans and patients too often felt forgotten, formed in the mind an idea of showing them that they were not. He did this by the distribution of small gifts. With the help of his friends and neighbors, he distributed them on a Saturday in October. In the years that followed, other residents began to participate in the event, which came to be called “Sweetest Day”. In time, the Day became an occasion for acknowledging others with a kind act or a small remembrance. Soon the idea began spreading to other cities all over the country.

根据倒数第三段“Paddy was still weeping, not for Frank, but for the life which had gone from Fee’s face, for the dying in her eyes. Frank had always brought bitterness and misfortune, always stood between Fee and himself. He was the cause of her withdrawal from his heart and the hearts of his children. Every time it looked as if there might be happiness for Fee, Frank took it away. But Paddy’s love for her was as deep and impossible to wipe out as hers was for Frank.(Paddy还在哭泣,不是为了Frank,而是为了Fee脸上消失的生命,为了她眼中垂死的神情。
根据第六段划线句的下文“‘I can’t go,’ she said without a hint of pain, yet making everyone feel that the pain was there. ‘It would kill him to see me. I know him so well — his pride, his ambition. Let him bear the shame alone, it’s what he wants. We’ve got to help him keep his secret. What good will it do him to see us?’(‘我不能去,’她说,没有一丝痛苦,但却让每个人都觉得痛苦就在那里。
根据第三段“Cleary was sentenced to life imprisonment with hard labour. Asked if he had anything to say, Cleary answered, ‘Just don’t tell my mother.’(Cleary被判处终身监禁并服苦役。 以及第六段中的“ ‘I can’t go,’ she said without a hint of pain, yet making everyone feel that the pain was there. ‘It would kill him to see me. I know him so well — his pride, his ambition. Let him bear the shame alone, it’s what he wants. We’ve got to help him keep his secret. What good will it do him to see us?’(‘我不能去,’她说道,没有一丝痛苦,但却让每个人都觉得痛苦就在那里。
根据第三段“Cleary was sentenced to life imprisonment with hard labour. Asked if he had anything to say, Cleary answered, ‘Just don’t tell my mother.’(Cleary被判处终身监禁并服苦役。 以及第四段“‘It happened over three years ago,’ Paddy said helplessly. No one answered him or moved, for no one knew what to do. ‘Just don’t tell my mother,’ said Fee numbly(麻木地). ‘And no one did! Oh, God! 可知,Fee是Frank的妈妈;再根据倒数第三段中的“But Paddy’s love for her was as deep and impossible to wipe out as hers was for Frank.(但是Paddy对她的爱和她对Frank的爱一样深,一样无法抹去。)”
C篇 28.A 29.B 30.B 31.C
Students are increasingly using laptops for note-taking because of speed and legibility(清晰度). 故选A。
Researchers performed experiments that aimed to find out whether using a laptop increased the tendency to make notes "mindlessly" by taking down word for word what the professors said可知,使用笔记本电脑记笔记的学生在记笔记的过程中往往是无意识的、不动脑的。故选B。
A new study shows students who write notes by hand during lectures perform better on exams than those who use laptops(笔记本电脑)和最后一段These two experiments suggest that handwritten notes are not only better for immediate learning and understanding, but that they also lead to superior revision in the future.
D篇:32.D 33.C 34.C 35.A
由第一段“But how should driverless cars handle emergencies? People disagree on the answer.(但是无人驾驶汽车应该如何处理紧急情况呢?人们对此有不同意见)”及划线词后的“imagine a car that suddenly meets some pedestrians in the road.(想象一辆汽车突然在路上遇到一些行人)”可知,challenge指代的是上文中的“无人驾驶汽车如何处理紧急事件”。故选D。
由第三段“Survey participants mostly agreed that driverless cars should be designed to protect the most people. That included swerving into walls (or otherwise sacrificing their passengers) to save a larger number of pedestrians. But there is a hitch (困境). Those same surveyed people want to ride in cars that protect passengers at all costs — even if the pedestrians would now end up dying.(调查参与者大多同意无人驾驶汽车的设计应该保护大多数人。
由第五段“Makers of driverless cars are in a tough spot, Bonnefon’s group warns.(Bonnefon的团队警告称,无人驾驶汽车制造商处境艰难)”可知,无人驾驶汽车的制造者处于艰难的处境。故选C。
根据文章最后一段“Those vehicles might be dangerous to pedestrians on rare occasions. But they “won’t speed, won’t drive drunk and won’t text while driving, which would be a win for society.(这些车辆在极少数情况下可能会对行人造成危险。 故选A。
七选五 36.E 37.A 38.B 39.F 40.G
故选A项。

One possible version:
At present, a considerable amount of garbage is produced every day. The problem of garbage pollution is getting so serious that many cities around the world are now being surrounded by garbage.
To solve the problem, first, we should economize on resources so as to reduce the amount of garbage. Second, we should sort the garbage properly so that they can be treated easily and differently. Third, reusable garbage should be recycled as much as possible.
In my opinion, it is everyone’s responsibility to reduce garbage pollution. Only with our joint efforts can we live in a better environment.
To Mark’s surprise, Mandy directly went inside the graveyard. And seconds after keeping walking, Mandy stood in front of a recent gravestone. She tenderly put the roses next to the gravestone. “Mommy,” she said, “I miss you and I bring you your favorite roses...” Seeing that, Mark felt tears well up in his eyes. He couldn’t imagine what his life would have been like without his mother. This little girl had lost her mother at an early age, so she’d never have that love he’d been taking for granted.
After dropping Mandy off by her house, Mark went back to the flower shop. He canceled the delivery, carried the flowers, and drove to his mother’s home. When his mother opened the door, he presented her with the flowers, and hugged her, saying, “I love you, Mom.” His mother cried happily. She said, “I thought you’d just deliver flowers or phone me.” Tears misted Mark’s eyes. He thought of poor little Mandy and realized how lucky he was. So, my dear friends, cherish your loved ones before it’s too late.
