    Jobs at Apple
    Amaze Yourself, Amaze the World
A job at Apple is unlike any other you've had. You'll be challenged. You'll be inspired. And you'll be proud. Because whatever your job is here, you’ll be part of something big.
    Every detail matters.
Every piece of packaging. Every swipe of the finger. Every "How can I help you?” Everything. And it doesn’t matter just some of the time. It matters all of the time. That's how we do things at Apple. The result is some of the best-loved products in the world.
    Simplicity isn't simple.
Ask anyone here. It's hard work. It means forever asking, “Why is it this way?” and “How can it be better?” It means rethinking every customer experience until the clutter has fallen away — until all that remains is what's essential, useful and beautiful. That might be a new product feature that delights even die-hard fans. It might be a customer support call, or even a display in an Apple store, arranged and lit exactly so.
    Creativity from every comer.
When you imagine the creative process at Apple, at first you may not picture someone in HR. Or operations. Or finance. But we expect creative thinking and solutions from everyone here, no matter what their responsibilities are. Innovation takes many forms, and our people seem to find new ones every day.
    21. Where will you probably find this passage?
    A. In a booklet introducing Apple's management.
    B. On the official website of Apple Inc.

Jackhorn Kentucky, a small village in the Appalachian Mountains, is deep in coal country. But with coal jobs disappearing and unemployment at record highs, this community has found a reason to hope. A bakeshop with an unusual name, Black Sheep Brick Oven Bakery, is providing steady employment and job training skills to local residents.
The bakery is a community-owned social enterprise that is focused on providing jobs for workers displaced(免职)by the coal mining industry, people in recovery, and others who need a new start in life. It started as a volunteer driven initiative(倡议)as part of the successful “Back to Our Appalachian Roots” project. Through the project, workers can learn traditional mountain skills like blacksmithing, quilting, and mountain cooking.
“There is nothing like bread baked in the hearth,” Gwen Johnson, the co-founder and manager of the bakery said. “It feeds the body and seems familiar even if you have never before tasted it.” The name of the bakery and catering company was borrowed from a local shop, according to Johnson. But the shop didn’t mind being an inspiration.
The reasons why the community needs the social enterprise go back to the beginning of coal mining in America. Generations of Appalachian residents worked in the coal mines and it was a source of pride as well as the primary employer in the area. But coal mining is back-breaking work with a huge amount of injuries, accidents and diseases like black lung. Today, there are very few coal jobs left in the area due to automation and the reduction of power plants that are coal-fed. Poverty has become a major problem in the area.
The Black Sheep Brick Oven Bakery is working to turn this around. It is a model of giving people second chances and has become a successful business. Johnson said, “We have created an inclusive place of love and belonging for whoever wants to come. I was always a black sheep in my family, which gave me a heart for others.”
    24. What does the bakery intend to do according to paragraph 2?
    A. It is devoted to developing employees’ skills.
    B. It offers bread to the local people for free.
    C. It is dedicated to replacing traditional coal industry.
    D. It helps the local people in need with their jobs.
    25. How did the bakery get its name?
    A. The bakery was named after its co-founder.
    B. The name was voted by the local people.
    C. The name was an inspiration from a local shop.
    D. The bakery adopted the community’s name.
    26. What does the underlined word “back-breaking” probably mean?
    A. Popular. B. Tough. C. Worthy. D. Urgent.
    27. What could be the best title for the text?
    A. The Secret of a Man’s Success B. A Bakery Brings Hope to a Village
    C. Coal Jobs Disappear in America D. The Popularity of a New Business
    C
Dancing with your grandma for 15 minutes a week promotes positive feelings and improves her state of mind, a study claims. Doctors from Israel are encouraging younger family members to have a regular visit to their grandmas and have a dance with their grandmas.
And they found a 15 minute boogie (布吉舞) once a week lifted the spirits of the elder family members and helped strengthen the familial bond. In fact, it is called Dance Movement Therapy (DMT). DMT across the generations, complete with eye contact, was found to promote positive feelings and improve spirits for the elderly.
The grandparents reported a bright state of mind, happy memories and uplifted spirits. Dancing has also previously been linked to improved muscle strength, balance and endurance (耐力). For the grandchildren in the study, the weekly boogie changed how they view aging and allowed them to come to accept the eventual death of their elderly relatives.
The study, published in the journal Frontiers in Psychology, assessed how dance affected general health of 16 dance movement therapists (治疗师) and their grandmothers. DMT was taken seriously due to the fact that it is easily accessible and does not cost more to practice. The researchers were eager to examine a low-cost method to treat issues commonly faced by an aging population— such as limited mobility and depression(抑郁症). Grandchildren were instructed to make eye contact and encourage playfulness and touch. They were also told to mirror their grandmothers’ movements and give them time and space to rest when needed.
The sessions were recorded and then analysed while diaries and interviews captured the opinions and feelings of the participants. As well as the benefits to the health of the senior, the experiment also changed the idea of the younger family members.
28.What should the young people do when dancing with their grandmas?
    A.Follow the grandmas’ steps.
    B.Look at the grandmas’ eyes.
C.Move the bodies as long as possible.
D.Talk with their grandmas in gentle voice.
29.What can we infer from the third paragraph?
A.Dancing brings the young happy memories and uplifted spirits.
B.Dancing enables the senior to accept aging and death of their old relatives.
C.Dancing benefits both the senior and the young in the new study.
D.Dancing is linked to improved muscle strength and balance in the new study.
30.Which of the following is the best advantage of DMT?
    A.Inexpensive. B.Relaxing.
    C.Attractive. D.Pleasant.
31.What is the best title for the text?
    A.What does DMT Mean?
B.Dancing: a Good Way to Stop Being Senior.
C.Why Don’t You Dance 15 Minutes Every Week?
D.DMT: Good for Senior People’s Health and Family Ties.
    D
Since the beginning of the summer in 2022, China has been sweltering under the worst heatwave in decades. A number of people in Zhejiang, Henan, Jiangsu and Sichuan provinces were diagnosed with thermoplegia (热射病), the most severe form of heatstroke, and some even died of this disease.
In a warming world, the hazards of heatwaves are increasing. According to a study, the number of deaths caused by heatwaves in China has increased rapidly since 1979, from 3,679 persons per year in the 1980s to15,500 persons per year in the 2010s.
“Over the past four decades, the main drivers of the large increase in heatwave-related deaths in China are the rapid increase in the frequency of heatwaves, followed by population growth, population aging, and rising baseline mortality (基线死亡率),” said Prof. Huang Cunrui, a researcher from Tsinghua University.
High temperatures would accelerate the loss in soil moisture (水分) and hurt the growth of corn, cotton, trees and fruits. What’s more, each additional degree of warming will increase crop losses to insects by 10-25 percent, threatening food security for billions of people. China has witnessed a range of extreme weather events, including heavy rainfall, flooding, tornadoes and record heatwaves this year. Meteorological officials said the country had an average temperature of 21.3 degrees Celsius in June, 0.9 degrees Celsius higher than the same period on average, and the highest record for the same period since 1961.
Experts say that while extreme summer heat is not entirely new, these sorts of occurrences could be something that becomes a standard part of life, requiring people to start learning how to cope with heatwaves that may continue for the rest of summer and well into the future.
Remember that even healthy, young athletes can be harmed by extreme heat, so every activity, indoors or outdoors, should be evaluated when extreme heat hits. There are some ways to stay safe during extreme heat events, such as drinking plenty of water, looking for shade or remaining in shade when outside, and avoiding cooking large meals that can add heat to your indoor environment.
32.What does the underlined word “hazards” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
    A. Discussions. B. Studies. C. Causes. D. Dangers.
33.What is the main reason for the growing heatwave-related deaths in China?
    A. The aging of the population.
    B. The larger amount of outdoor workers.
    C. The increasing frequency of heatwaves.
    D. The rise in the number of the total population.
34.What can we infer from paragraph 4?
    A. Rural areas suffer more from heatwaves than cities.
    B. China has witnessed the worst climate ever in 2022.
    C. High temperatures have negative effects on agriculture.
    D. Climate change contributes to the decline in insect species.
35.What does the author intend to tell us in the last paragraph?
    A. Ways to deal with extreme heat.
    B. The trend of heatwaves in the future.
    C. The importance of keeping healthy in summer.
    D. Influences of global warming on the environment.

Six decade years ago, a 13-year-old boy saw a beautiful hairpin (发夹) in a shop window which set his heart racing. But the price—five dollars—was too high for Jack. Five dollars would buy almost a week’s food for his family.
Jack couldn’t ask his father for the money. Everything his father made through fishing went to his mother, Dora. Slim and beautiful, she was the center of the home, the glue that held it together. The housework was never-ending, and she struggled to feed and clothe their five children but she was happy as her family and their well-being were all she cared about.
Nevertheless, he opened the shop’s door and went inside. Standing proud and straight in his shabby shirt and washed-out trousers, he told the shopkeeper what he wanted, adding, “But I don’t have the money right now. Can you please hold it for me for some time?”
“I’ll try,” the shopkeeper smiled. “People around here don’t usually have that kind of money to spend on such things. It should be kept for a while.”
Jack respectfully touched his worn cap and walked out. He would raise the money and not tell anybody, for he thought Mum would get surprised when she saw that hairpin. On hearing the sound of hammering from a side street, Jack suddenly had an idea that he could raise money by selling the used nail bags. People built their own homes in Bay Roberts, using nails bought in bags from a local factory. Sometimes the used bags were thrown away at the construction site, and Jack knew he could sell them back to the factory for five cents a piece.
That day he sold two nail bags and hid the money in a rusty soda tin.
    注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;

These years have witnessed that more and more people are watching Tik Tok and some have even become addicted to it. However, Tik Tok has both advantages and disadvantages.
On the one hand, Tik Tok has provided people with many benefits. It lets people learn a lot of life tips, broadens people’s horizons, expands their knowledge and enriches their lives. On the other hand, it also has disadvantages. For example, many people worry that there exists some false and misleading information on Tik Tok. Some people complain that Tik Tok wastes a lot of their time, which greatly influences their study and normal life.
As far as I am concerned, Tik Tok is convenient but we should use it properly.
    读后续写(25分)
Paragraph 1: Every day after school, Jack started his plan. Cold and hungry, Jack wandered the streets, searching for the nail bags carefully. To save more money, he even decided to deliver papers in the early morning. Exhausted and tired as he felt, he still stuck to the plan. It was the hairpin in the shop window that reminded him that what he did was worthwhile. After a long time of hard work, he made it eventually.
Paragraph 2: Finally the time came! He took out the soda tin, poured the coins out and began to count them. Five dollars! His hard work paid off! Holding the soda tin firmly, Jack rushed for the shop to buy the hairpin. The moment he got the beautiful hairpin, he rushed home and placed it in his mother’s hand. Never had Dora received such a gift. Speechless and happy, she held her son tightly into her arms, with tears welling up in her eyes. It was an unforgettable experience, which all the family members will remember.
