Text 1
M: Where are you working now, Jennifer? Still in the hospital?
W: No, I left the hospital and I refused the job at the drugstore. I’m working as a teacher in a medical college now.
Text 2
W: Do you live very far from your office?
M: Well, the distance is about 20 miles. But it doesn’t seem that far to drive to work. The road is good and there’s not much traffic.
Text 3
M: Julia, is everything ready for the children’s picnic today?
W: Yes, Charlie. Patty has prepared for transportation. I’ve got the picnic baskets ready and John has prepared all the children’s clothes.
Text 4
W: What time is tomorrow’s meeting? Is it at 8: 30?
M: No, it’s scheduled for 9:00 in the morning.
W: Good. That gives me an hour to prepare after getting to the office.
Text 5
M: Isn’t this your usual stop?
W: Yes, but today I’m going to the library.
M: Oh, then you should get off at the next stop and walk to Clifton Street.
Text 6
W: There are many candidates for this promotion. In my opinion, Mr Bannister has proven himself to the company, but he doesn’t have much experience.
M: I agree with you, Amelia, but we shouldn’t ignore Mrs Templeton. She really helped us a lot with the trade deal last year.
W: I didn’t think about that. You’re right. We should go with her, as she’s been with us longer.
M: Let’s inform Mr Duncan that we’ve reached a decision.
Text 7
M: Where are you now? In your room?
W: No. I’m wandering around the hotel. It’s really a good place.
M: Yeah. You work out, right? Go and take a look at the fitness center.
W: Where is that?
M: You can get to the fitness center from the back of the hotel. It’s on the right side of the business center.
W: Sounds good. Where are the conference rooms we’ll be using tomorrow?
M: Oh, they’re right next to the front office.
Text 8
W: At lunchtime, I watched that good cooking show, Chef’s Special, and I’ve got some great ideas for some meals we can try out for dinner.
M: Well, that sounds good. So what’s on your list?
W: Let’s see. We’ve got some meat at home already, but we need something for a salad. We need some tomatoes, carrots and green onions.
M: Sounds very healthy.
W: The apples look really good today. Let’s pick up some, too. Plus we need to get some bananas. Would you like some milk or cheese?
M. No, they are not my taste.
W: Then can you get a box of ice cream?
M: Sure, I love ice cream best.
W: I think that’s everything we need. Let’s go home and cook dinner.
Text 9
W: Dad, don’t wait for me for dinner tomorrow. I’ll go to attend a party.
M: Is someone having her birthday?
W: No, Jenny is throwing a party at her house in Hill Peak this Friday. You know she is moving to New York next week.
M: I see. The closing time of the subway in that area is pretty early. Do you need me to pick you up when the party is done.
W: Or maybe you can let me drive your car?
M: No, you just got your license. It’s not safe.
W: Oh, come on. Fine, I’ll let you know when it’s over. By the way, what gift should I bring for Jenny?
M; I’m not sure. Some flowers? Or some chocolate maybe?
W: Well, I’m thinking something that will last, something special.
M: How about the wooden boat you made for months? I remember Jenny liked it very much last time she saw it.
W: You’re a genius, Daddy! Thank you.
Text 10
M: What is it like to travel in space? If you have ever watched space movies, you may knows one thing about it. Aurora Station is the world’s first space hotel. The US company Orion Span built the hotel. The hotel is around 12 feet wide and 35 feet long. It is going to welcome its first guests soon. It will fly 320 kilometers above the Earth. It can hold six people at a time. Two of them will be workers. They maybe former NASA astronauts. Each trip aboard the station will last for 12 days. Guests there will be able to do many interesting things. For example, they will see around 16 sunrises and sunsets every 24 hours. They can take part in research experiments such as growing food in space. Later, they can bring the food back to the Earth. These are the same things as astronauts usually do. Guests can also share what they see and hear with others on the Earth. They can have a video chat using a high-speed Internet connection. But each guest will have to pay at least $9.5 million. That’s really a large amount of money.

About a decade ago, Lawson was at a beach in Virginia watching his kids build castles right next to the waves.
“I kept trying to get them to come back because I thought it was a terrible idea,” he remarked. He wanted them to build their sandcastles closer to the dunes (沙丘). But they found it more exciting to build right where the waves hit, seeing their sandcastles get destroyed, and then rebuilding them with whatever debris (残骸) washed up from the ocean. “It seemed so symbolic, somehow, of how life works more than just building your perfect sandcastles,” said Lawson. When he decided to turn that sunny day into a children’s book, the idea came to just use pictures. “It seemed like it would work beautifully without words,” he said.
A Day for Sandcastles is illustrated by Qin Leng. It’s the second wordless picture book for Lawson and Leng since 2021’s Over the Shop. Leng’s illustrations stay pretty true to real life. Three siblings spend the day building sandcastles and watching them get destroyed by a flying hat. “To me it’s a celebration of childhood and the simple joys of life. These are the things I like to capture (捕捉),” said Leng.
Leng spent part of her childhood in France, and she was inspired by European comic books “What I love to do when I illustrate a picture book is add side stories to the main storyline. I always think about the readers and the longevity(持久) of the book, and I want them to be able to discover something new every time they revisit the book,” Leng explained.
At the end of the day, the sleepy-eyed kids pile into the bus that will take them home. “Those last pages are some of my favorite. They capture that feeling like at the end of the day on the beach, when it’s getting dark and you feel completely exhausted,” Lawson said. It must be a universal childhood feeling: happy with sand, sticky from the salt, hot from the sun, and ready to fall asleep the moment you get into the car.
24. Why does Lawson mention the scene where the kids built sandcastles?
A. To suggest a way to enjoy leisure.
B. To remind readers of the childhood.
C. To convince us of how life works.
D. To tell us the inspiration for his book.
25. What do you know about the two books mentioned?
A. They are purchased by kids universally.
B. Readers can only find pictures in them.
C. They carry no elements of comic books.
D. The stories are literally works of fantasy.
26. How does Lawson feel when telling us the last pages in the last paragraph?
A. Updated. B. Pleased. C. Disturbed. D. Exhausted.
27. What can be a suitable title for the passage?
A Childhood in sandcastles B. Beautiful childhood memories
C. Popular illustrated books D. Explore the mystery of nature
D5. B6. B7. A
根据第二段中“But they found it more exciting to build right where the waves hit, seeing their sandcastles get destroyed, and then rebuilding them with whatever debris (残骸) washed up from the ocean. “It seemed so symbolic, somehow, of how life works more than just building your perfect sandcastles,” said Lawson. When he decided to turn that sunny day into a children’s book, the idea came to just use pictures.
根据第二段中“When he decided to turn that sunny day into a children’s book, the idea came to just use pictures.(当他决定把那个阳光明媚的日子变成一本儿童读物时,他的想法变成了只用图片。)”和第三段中“A Day for Sandcastles is illustrated by Qin Leng. It’s the second wordless picture book for Lawson and Leng since 2021’s Over the Shop.(《沙堡的一天》由Qin Leng绘制。这是继2021年的《超越商店》之后,Lawson和Leng的第二本无字图画书。)”可知,文中提到的这两本书都只有图片,所以读者在这两本书里面只能看到图片。故选B。
26.推理判断题。根据最后一段中““Those last pages are some of my favorite. They capture that feeling like at the end of the day on the beach, when it’s getting dark and you feel completely exhausted,” Lawson said. It must be a universal childhood feeling: happy with sand, sticky from the salt, hot from the sun, and ready to fall asleep the moment you get into the car.(“最后几页是我最喜欢的。他们捕捉到了那种感觉,就像一天结束时在海滩上,天色渐暗,你感到筋疲力尽,”劳森说。这一定是一种普遍的童年感觉:在沙滩上感到快乐,在盐里感到粘,在太阳底下感到热,一上车就准备睡觉。)”可推知,在最后一段中,当Lawson向我们讲述最后几页时,他感觉很快乐,故选B。
27.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第二段中““It seemed so symbolic, somehow, of how life works more than just building your perfect sandcastles,” said Lawson. When he decided to turn that sunny day into a children’s book, the idea came to just use pictures. ( 劳森说:“不知何故,这似乎象征着生活不仅仅是建造完美的沙堡。”当他决定把那个阳光明媚的日子变成一本儿童读物时,他的想法变成了只用图片。)”和第三段中“A Day for Sandcastles is illustrated by Qin Leng. These are the things I like to capture(捕捉),” said Leng.(《沙堡的一天》由Qin Leng绘制。

Shenzhou XV astronauts moved into the Tiangong space station on Nov 30 as they started their six—month stay. The station orbits Earth in about 90 minutes at an altitude of 400 kilometers. The temperature changes greatly, ranging from 150℃ when the station is exposed to the sun to —100℃ when over the night side of the planet.
On Earth, we have heating systems or air—conditioners at home to keep us warm. In Tiangong, what do they have? The answer lies in the designs of thermal(热量的)control system by the China Academy of Space Technology.
The fluid loop(流体回路), with liquid circulating(循环)through its pipes, is one of the technologies used.
“Just like the blood vessels(血管)in the human body, the loop pipes run all over the station modules(舱),” Huang Lei, one of the designers of the system, told Xinhua, “They maintain a temperature balance by removing heat from the parts that tend to overheat and adding heat to other components that tend to get cold,” Huang added.
For the material outside, scientists have developed a silver—colored metallic—based coating to keep a balance between the deep freeze of space and the sun’s heat. It is similar to coating the spaceship with “sunscreen”.
The coating can not only absorb less solar energy but also block heat release from the inside. Being able to do this double—duty job, the coating keeps the environment inside between 18 and 26℃, allowing astronauts to stay comfortable in their orbiting home. It was first used on the Shenzhou XIII spaceship, which was launched on Oct 16, 2021.
Cargo(货物)spacecraft adopt another kind of design—multilayer insulation(多层隔热组件). For example, the Tianzhou 4’s cargo cabin was given a gray—colored material to absorb more sunlight for human activities. Another part that was filled with equipment was painted with a white material to cool off.
28. What can we learn about the Tiangong space station from the first two paragraphs?
A. It orbits the sun at a high speed.
B. It is about 150 kilometers away from Earth.
C. It has a heating system to keep warm.
D. It goes through sharp temperature changes.
29. What is the main function of the loop pipes?
A. Supplying energy. B. Balancing temperature.
C. Reducing pressure. D. Controlling speed.
30. How does the silver—colored metallic—based coating work?
A. By reflecting al the sunlight. B. By producing and releasing heat.
C. By changing the sun’s heat into power. D. By absorbing heat and preventing heat loss.
31. What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A. The launch of a cargo spacecraft.
B. A new recently designed spacecraft.
C. Other materials used outside the cargo spacecraft.
D. The difference of Tianzhou 4’s cargo cabin.
D29. B30. D31. C
根据文章第一段“The temperature changes greatly, ranging from 150℃ when the station is exposed to the sun to —100℃ when over the night side of the planet.(温度变化很大,从空间站暴露在太阳下时的150℃到地球背面的-100℃。)”
根据文章第四段““Just like the blood vessels(血管)in the human body, the loop pipes run all over the station modules(舱),” Huang Lei, one of the designers of the system, told Xinhua, “They maintain a temperature balance by removing heat from the parts that tend to overheat and adding heat to other components that tend to get cold,” Huang added.(该系统的设计者之一黄磊在接受新华社采访时表示:“就像人体内的血管一样,环管遍布空间站的各个模块。它们通过从容易过热的部件中散热,并向其他容易变冷的部件添加热量来保持温度平衡。”)”可知,环管就像人体内的血管一样,遍布空间站的各个模块,通过帮助过热的部件散热以及向容易变冷的部件添加热量来保持温度平衡。故选B。
30.细节理解题。根据文章第六段“The coating can not only absorb less solar energy but also block heat release from the inside.(这种涂层不仅可以吸收较少的太阳能,而且还可以阻止热量从内部释放。)”
根据文章最后一段“Cargo(货物)spacecraft adopt another kind of design—multilayer insulation(多层隔热组件). For example, the Tianzhou 4’s cargo cabin was given a gray—colored material to absorb more sunlight for human activities. Another part that was filled with equipment was painted with a white material to cool off.(货运飞船采用了另一种设计——多层隔热组件。例如,天舟四号的货舱采用了灰色材料,以便为人类活动吸收更多的阳光。另一个装满设备的部分被涂上白色材料冷却。)”可知,文章最后一段主要介绍了天舟四号的货舱外部使用的其他用来隔热的材料。故选C。

Humans often find their way around by using a technology system called GPS. This system uses a device to work out the position of individuals or things from any place on the ground or in the air. Now, scientists have found that some sharks may have a sort of natural GPS.
Scientists have known that animals such as birds and sea turtles use magnetic (磁性的) fields to find food and nesting sites. So, they wanted to know if bonnethead sharks — a type of small hammerhead shark — could use magnetic fields in the same way.
In an experiment the scientists caught bonnethead sharks off the coast of Florida. Next, they exposed the sharks to magnetic conditions. These conditions were similar to ones that the sharks usually encounter hundreds of kilometers away from the Florida location. The simulated (模拟) conditions made the sharks think they were further south than they actually were. The sharks responded by swimming north, proving that they could respond to magnetic fields.
Robert Hueter, a senior scientist, who was not involved in the study, said that he would like to see more research on how the sharks use the magnetic fields to determine their location and whether larger, long-distance migrating(迁徙) sharks use a similar system to find their way. “The question has always been: Even if sharks are sensitive to magnetic orientation, do they use this sense to find their way in the oceans, and how?” he added.
The information learned from the study could also help scientists keep track of and manage different sharks throughout the world’s oceans. It may help them understand why shark populations are declining. Knowing how sharks find their way in the oceans could be one step toward saving them.
32. Why isGPS mentioned in Paragraph 1?
A. To state an opinion. B. To introduce a finding.
C. To provide basic information. D. To confirm a prediction.
33. What did scientists do to prove sharks’ response to magnetic fields?
A. Observing sharks’ natural habitats.
B. Analyzing sharks’ different response.
C. Placing sharks further south of Florida.
D. Modelling conditions familiar to sharks.
34. What can be learned from Robert Hueter’s words in Paragraph 4?
A. He is eager to participate in the further research.
B. He is optimistic about the future about the research.
C. He is doubtful about the accuracy of Keller’s experiment.
D. He is curious about sharks’ response to the magnetic fields.
35. What is the best title for the text?
A. Magnetic Field — Sharks’ Natural GPS
B. GPS — an Effective Positioning System
C. Sharks — an Endangered Species to Protect
D. Byran Keller — a Pioneer in Magnetic Study
B33. D34. D35. A

Don’t ramble (长篇大论). This is a very common mistake made by people who have poor writing skills. When they ramble, they are not paying attention to grammar. As a result, their sentences become very long. 37 If you know you have poor grammar, use short sentences.
38 Think about each sentence carefully to make sure that it is correct before moving on. It’s better to write a short passage that is easy to read and mistake-free than to write a long article that is filled with grammar mistakes.
Increase your vocabulary. If you don’t have a large vocabulary, you will find it difficult to write as you can’t find right words to express yourself clearly. The solution to this problem is to increase your vocabulary. 39 You can do this by reading the local newspapers daily, borrowing books from the library or watching English programs.
Don’t write when you are tired. Tiredness can lead to nothing to write. If you find yourself looking at a blank piece of paper with nothing to write, don’t just sit there! Take a walk or a warm shower, or simply lie down to get some rest. 40 You’ll find that you’ll enjoy your writing a lot more and make fewer mistakes!
A. Find out the mistakes you’ve made.
B. Make sure your sentences are correct.
C. You can pick up new words almost anywhere.
D. Write what interests you most in the beginning.
E. As a result, they may give up after trying hard for a while.
F. The longer the sentences are the more mistakes they’ll make.
G. When your mind is relaxed, you should go back to your writing.
F38. B39. C40. G
36.上文“Many people think that English writing is difficult.”(许多人认为英文写作很难。)提到了很多人认为英语写作很难,E项“结果,他们努力一段时间后就可能放弃了”承接上文,其中“they”指代上文的Many people,引出下文“Here are some great writing tips that will help you improve your writing in a short time.”(这里有一些很不错的写作技巧,可以帮助你在短时间内提高写作水平。)
37.上文“As a result, their sentences become very long.”(因此,他们写的句子会变得很长。) 下文“If you know you have poor grammar, use short sentences.”(如果你知道自己的语法不好,就使用短句。)衔接F项的“the more mistakes they’ll make”,指出为避免语法错误,使用短句。故选F项。
下文“Think about each sentence carefully to make sure that it is correct before moving on. It’s better to write a short passage that is easy to read and mistake-free than to write a long article that is filled with grammar mistakes.”(仔细斟酌每个句子,确保无误后再继续写。
39.上文“The solution to this problem is to increase your vocabulary.”(解决这个问题的方法是扩大词汇量。)讲的是要扩大词汇量,C项“你在任何地方都能学到新词”指出在哪儿都能扩大词汇量,下文“You can do this by reading the local newspapers daily, borrowing books from the library or watching English programs.”(你可以通过阅读当地日报,借图书馆的书或是看英文节目。)
40.上文“Tiredness can lead to nothing to write. If you find yourself looking at a blank piece of paper with nothing to write, don’t just sit there! Take a walk or a warm shower, or simply lie down to get some rest.”(疲劳容易让人写不出来。

Bob and I hung out the whole summer, running in the field, swimming in the lake and exploring everywhere joyfully.
It was a typical summer afternoon. Bob suggested we skip a language lesson to play basketball. Ahal I would show my defense, lay-ups and three-point shooting. I loved to explore, I loved sports, and I loved basketball most. I believed I would be the next LeBron James.
But my passion for sports came to a sudden stop when I began experiencing extreme back pain later that day. After several visits to doctors, finally I was told that a spine(脊柱) surgery was necessary. Unfortunately, the surgery accidentally damaged my spinal cord(脊髓). I was in the ward hanging face down to relieve the pressure on my spine.
After four-month rehabilitation training(康复训练) in hospital, reality slowly set in—I was unable to walk again. I couldn’t believe this should have happened to me, that it wasn’t possible to recover, that I wouldn’t become a famous basketball player, that my life as I had known it, was over. My future would be chained to a wheelchair. I was just 16 years old!
Back home, I learned how hard it was going to be to get around in a wheelchair. I withdrew from my friends and my basketball. At Bob’s repeated invitation, I agreed to go to our regular swimming hole. Unable to make it down the riverbank alone, I was too proud to ask for help. When I finally realized my pride would keep me away from people and sports I loved, I let Bob carry me on his back to the river’s edge.
Allowing others to help was a turning point. I realized my attitude was the biggest barrier I had to face. How could I expect others to see my potential if I didn’t see it myself? How could I realize my basketball dream if I withdrew into myself?
注意:
One day, Bob took me to a wheelchair basketball game.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
With Bob’s encouragement, I decided to have a try at my dream.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One day, Bob took me to a wheelchair basketball game. This became a decisive turning point in my life. The same basketball court and the same excited audience. The only difference was that the players were moving around in their wheelchairs just like I did. They turned around, charging forward and showing their lay-ups nimbly. Amazed at their skill, I kept applauding until the game concluded. Then, Bob said something that was going to change my life forever, “Jack, if they can do it, so can you! Why not reignite your basketball dream?”
With Bob’s encouragement, I decided to have a try at my dream. I signed up for a basketball course for the disabled. Every weekend, my teammates and I would practice moving, turning around, passing the ball and shooting in a wheelchair. When Bob watched my game three months later, it was he who kept applauding for my regained basketball skill. Thanks to Bob’s encouragement and my changing attitude, I am now on my way to becoming LeBron James. The only difference is that my version of James is playing in the wheelchair, but by no means confined to it.
