It was the final day of our holiday: I’d gone snowboarding with my little brother and what we lacked in skill we made up for in enthusiasm, catching the first ski lift in the morning and the last lift in the afternoon. That day, we were in high spirits. We stopped near the top of an off-piste section (非滑雪场区域) that went through forests. I’d done this route a few times before and, as I was faster and more experienced, I let my brother disappear into the trees ahead, figuring I would soon catch up.
I began to pick up speed when I was suddenly thrown off balance. I didn’t fall but I lost control of the board. I was unable to turn, instead going in a straight line, gathering speed. Just as I was regaining control, I crashed into the trunk of a large tree.
It was like hitting a concrete pillar (柱子). I didn’t lose consciousness but the pain was felt instantly and overwhelming. I knew pretty much immediately that my back was broken and quickly realised the situation could get very serious. I tried to stand but collapsed and almost blacked out with pain before I got halfway up.
Walking was not an option. Crawling was too slow and painful. I had another idea: I managed to get the board unattached to my feet and moved it under my stomach so I was lying on it. I faced down the mountain and, using the board as a luge (小雪橇), I started to drag and slide my body down the steep, tree-lined slope. I used my arms to stop myself sliding out of control. I descended at a slow jogging pace, trying to slow myself as much as possible.
Eventually, I managed to slide myself on to a cross-country ski path and was given first aid before a helicopter took me to hospital. The recovery road was tough, but months later, I was back doing what I love most.
24.Why did the author’s brother go into the forest ahead of him?
A.Because the author lacked enthusiasm.
B.Because his brother caught the first ski lift in the morning.
C.Because the author’s competence allowed him to give his brother an advantage.
D.Because the author knew a short route and had done the route a few times before.
25.What caused the author’s back injury?
A.The overwhelming pain. B.The crash into a thick trunk.
C.Hitting a concrete pillar. D.Falling off the uncontrollable board.
26.How did the author save himself?
A.By sliding his body on the board.
B.By rolling down the steep, tree-lined slope.
C.By dragging the board down the hill with his hands.
D.By using his arms to stop himself sliding out of control.
27.What can we infer about the author from the last paragraph?
A.His recovery lasted too long to wait.
B.He will find it harder to recover mentally.
C.He saved himself and recovered on his own.
D.He is unwilling to give up his passion easily.
C
Clothes were once used until they fell apart, repaired and sewed to be re-used, ending their lives as dishcloths. Not today. Clothing, footwear and upholstered furniture are increasingly frequently bought, thrown away and replaced with new fashions, which are themselves soon abandoned and replaced.
‘Fast fashion’ is so called partly because the fashion industry now releases new lines every week, when historically this happened four times a year. Today, fashion brands produce almost twice the amount of clothing that they did in 2000. But incredibly, more than 50 billion clothes are deserted within a year of being made.
The trend is having an astonishing environmental impact. Take water. The fashion industry, one of the world’s largest users of water, consumes anywhere from 20 trillion to 200 trillion litres every year. Besides, plastic fibres are released when we wash polyester(聚酯纤维)and other polymer-based textiles(纺织物), and make up between 20% and 35% of the microplastics choking the oceans. Added to this are specific chemicals used to make fabrics dirt resistant and the pesticides required to protect crops such as cotton.
Change is badly needed, but will require the fashion industry to work harder to embrace more of what is known as the circular economy. That will involve at least two things: refocusing on making things that last, and so encouraging reuse; and more rapidly expanding the technologies for sustainable manufacturing(制造)processes, especially recycling. There is work to be done for researchers on improving and expanding textiles recycling. Most used textiles go to landfill, in part because there are relatively few systems that collect, recycle and reuse materials. Such recycling requires the manual separation of fibres, as well as buttons and zips. Different fibres are not easy to identify by eye, and overall such manual processes are time-consuming. Machinery is being developed that can help. Technologies also exist to recycle used fibres chemically and to create high-quality fibres that can be reused in clothing. But these are nowhere near the scale needed. Another challenge for researchers is to work out how to get consumers and manufacturers to change their behaviour.
Small steps are good, but big changes are needed. The shameful environmental cost of a new cupboard needs to be tackled immediately, at scale, with style.
28.What are the first two paragraphs mainly about?
A.Clothes should be used until they fall apart.
B.Fashion brands are replaced with new ones frequently.
C.Fast fashion leads to a significant increase in fashion waste.
D.Fashion brands produce twice more clothing than necessary.
29.According to the author, what does the circular economy focus on?
A.Improving the production of natural textiles.
B.Studying how fast fashion affects the environment.
C.Releasing new lines four times a year instead of every week.
D.Making durable things and expanding the technologies for recycling.
30.What can you infer from the passage?
A.Consumers are fond of chemically recycled fibres.
B.Systems that collect, recycle and reuse are insufficient.
C.Manual separation of fibres is preferred by manufacturers.
D.Environment damage is mainly caused by using chemicals.
31.What does the author think of the future of fashion industry?
A.Big changes are needed to follow fashion styles.
B.Huge steps should be taken for the needs of consumers.
C.More should be done to deal with the heavy environmental cost.
D.Consumers and manufacturers will change their behaviour immediately.
D
There are many things we remember from our childhood—the games we played, the music we listened to, but what about earning pocket money? This was our first ever wage for completing tasks such as tidying our bedroom or sorting the laundry. Our reward was a handful of coins that we safely hid away. But now, it seems parents’ attitude to handing out cash is changing.
There was a time when cash was king—it was the main currency for financial deals. These days, though, using credit or debit cards, or making contactless payments, are the most convenient ways of paying. So where does that leave handing over pocket money? Research has found that 84% of British parents currently give notes and coins to their children— typically an allowance of £7 a week.
But banks predict that by 2028 only one in ten deals will be with cash, and that is something that today’s children will have to deal with. One particular issue is that children may not understand the value of cash because they never see it. Parents face difficult choices too— finding a new way to transfer pocket money, or maybe not bothering to pay it at all.
Giving children lessons about finance at school is important. Children should be provided with financial literacy at an early age. That is vital to ensure proper money management skills later in life, such as setting a realistic budget, responsibly managing credit and debt, saving for unexpected expenses. The UK’s Money and Pensions Service advises parents to get children started with money as young as possible. Sarah Porretta from the service told the BBC that for parents who no longer carry cash, “The trick is to go and get some cash, just so your children have the opportunity to interact with them. Talk about what you are doing with money. If you are paying with a card or with a phone, talk to children about that and link it back to those coins they have handled.”
But, of course, many of the goods that young people want to buy—such as add-ons for a computer game—only allow digital deals. This has led to a number of apps being set up that allow children to track and spend their hard-earned pocket money and parents to transfer money electronically and monitor their child’s spending. Banks also suggest setting up accounts for older children which gives them a cash card to use. But whatever method a parent chooses to adopt, they need to teach their kids that money doesn’t grow on trees!
32.What can you learn from the passage?
A.The custom of giving children pocket money is disappearing.
B.Banks predict people will pay most of the deals in cash by 2028.
C.It isn’t necessary for children to experience the course of using cash.
D.Cash-free payments are convenient ways of purchasing goods these days.
33.The underlined word “That” refers to _________.
A.digital deal B.cash payment C.financial literacy D.pocket money
34.According to UK’s Money and Pensions Service’s advice, parents should _________.
A.offer chances for children to use cash B.no longer carry cash when they go out
C.play some tricks with kids using the coins D.play cards and make phone calls with children
35.What is the main purpose of this passage?
A.To stress the importance of paying in cash.
B.To introduce the development of pocket money.
C.To explain why the ways of payment are changing.
D.To develop children’s awareness of money management.

Our lives are full of habits. Unfortunately a great many of them are bad habits. One way to break these bad habits is to fill our lives with good habits. Most people decide one day that they need to make changes to their lives and then they go all out to make big sweeping changes. This may work for them for the first few days, but then they get burned out. ___36__ This is a very unproductive way to spend your time and energy.
____37____ Say your goal is to get up an hour earlier every day. One day you start setting your alarm for an hour earlier and you keep this up for one week. Then because you are naturally resistant to change, you go back to your old habit. A better way is to set your alarm one minute earlier every day. After two months you are getting up an hour earlier and you will not even notice the change. ____38____
This approach can work for just about anything. If you are exercising for half an hour every day and you want to increase that time to one hour then add a minute every day. After one month you will have reached your goal with very little resistance from your body and mind. ____39____
This method of change is gentle, but very powerful. Think of everything you can accomplish if you just continuously improve a little at a time. The change itself creates the momentum (动力) you need to keep going. ____40____ What one minute change can you make to your life today?
A.The key is to change a little bit at a time.
B.Keeping on exercising can build up strength.
C.It may take longer, but with this approach you are likely to succeed.
D.Nothing will happen if you are not determined to achieve your goal.
E.Pretty soon they are back to their old habits and nothing has changed.
F.Changing slowly removes the greatest barrier we have to change: fear.
G.Soon you will find yourself reaching your goals with almost no pain involved.

One possible version:
With the development of science and technology, electronic books are becoming increasingly popular. The following is a report made among students about whether electronic books should take the place of paper books completely in the near future.
Some students take positive attidue to the posibility for the reason that electronic books are more convenient and much cheaper. Moreover, electronic books are environmentally friendly while paper books involve cutting down trees.
However, others think differently. They hold the view that not only is it difficult to change people's traditional reading habits but also reading paper books is less harmful to our eyes.
Personally, I agree with the latter, believing they will coexist in the future because they both have their own advantages and can offer us different reading experiences.

I descended at a slow jogging pace, trying to slow myself as much as possible.(我有了另一个主意:我设法把滑板从我的脚上拆下来,把它移到我的肚子下面,这样我就可以平卧在上面了。 故选A。

根据第一段中“Clothing, footwear and upholstered furniture are increasingly frequently bought, thrown away and replaced with new fashions, which are themselves soon abandoned and replaced.(人们越来越频繁地购买衣服、鞋类和软垫家具,然后扔掉,换上新的时装,而这些时装本身很快又被抛弃和替换。)”以及第二段中“Today, fashion brands(品牌)produce almost twice the amount of clothing that they did in 2000. But incredibly, more than 50 billion clothes are deserted within a year of being made.( 如今,时尚品牌的服装产量几乎是2000年的两倍。但令人难以置信的是,超过500亿件衣服在制作完成后的一年内被丢弃。)”可以推断,快时尚导致时尚浪费的显著增加。故选C。

This may work for them for the first few days, but then they get burned out.

After two months you are getting up an hour earlier and you will not even notice the change. 故选A。
