W:Only your wife. She wants you to pick up some milk on your way home.
M:OK,thanks,Sarah.I’m headed to my next meeting now.
    Text 3
M:Can you lend me 30 yuan?
    W:I had 50 yuan,but I have just spent 30 yuan.
    Text 4
M:Are you ready yet? You’ve been spending a long time on your math homework.
W:I’m having trouble with this problem.I don’t know what a hundred times a thousand is.

W:We have buses leaving for the airport from the downtown area every 20 minutes. The bus stops at the Holiday Inn as well.Be sure to get on the bus before 7∶30.
    Text 6
W:Why do you only eat with your right hand?
M:Oh,I learned to do that when I was traveling. In the African country of Ethiopia, that’s their custom. It’s considered very bad manners to eat with your left hand.
    W:Why is that?
    M:They consider it dirty,I think.
W:What if you’re eating a sandwich? I can never eat a sandwich with only one hand.
M:Well, they make their food so that they only need one hand to eat it with, mainly meats and vegetables in sauce. And they make a very different kind of bread there.Instead of spoons and forks,Ethiopians use the bread to get their food.

    W:What is it?
M:You’re not going to like this. But I think we should move in with my mother.
    W:Um!
M:Listen,we wouldn’t have to pay as much rent, maybe only half of what we pay now.She has two free bedrooms,so we would have enough space. And my mother is gone for most of the day.She goes to dinners, concerts and movies with friends on the weekends. She’s really active,so she isn’t home much.
    Text 8
W:What are you doing with these books?
    M:Giving them away.

M:Yeah,I will ship one box to my new apartment. But the ones by the door,I’m giving away. You should see if you want any of them.

M:Take it.It’s a good book to read.I’d also recommend Harry Potter to you.

W:OK,I will take both. But I don’t need any more.I have too many unread books already.
    Text 9

W:Well,I also try to go on a trip during the winter break, and again during spring break.I also take lots of smaller trips whenever we have a threeday weekend.
M:How do you manage to find time to travel so much? Don’t you have to spend time with your family?
W:Yeah, and we do that in different places! They love to travel, too. We never spend a family vacation in the same place twice!
    M:Wow!Doesn’t that get a little bit expensive,though?
W:Well,it’s certainly not cheap. But both my parents work hard, and they save up all their money to go places with us.I also try to save all the money I get from my parttime job,so I can go on my own little trips.
M:Don’t you find it difficult to keep up with your school work?
W:Not at all.I go to the library every day,and I never waste my time going to parties. If I use my time wisely when I’m in school,I can have more fun outside school.
    Text 10
Hello.Welcome to Green Park Zoo.It was opened in 1958.And it covers an area of 110 hectares.Over 120 different types of animals are kept at present in the zoo. This number does not include the different types of fish, birds and snakes which are also kept here.
This zoo has one of the largest collections of deer in the world. There are 24 different types here at present. You will notice that there are no cages in this zoo.The animals are free to run around in separate groups in different fields.
Please do not feed any of the animals. Here are some reasons for this.First, all the animals have enough to eat. Some visitors have in the past fed the animals with kinds of food which is not suitable. This sometimes used to cause illness and even death to the animals.Second, some of the animals have very sharp teeth. It is not safe to get close to them.
Please note that the gates close at 5∶00 pm on weekdays and an hour later on weekends. We hope you will make your visit more enjoyable and interesting.

When was the last time someone unexpectedly did something nice for you? Not someone you knew, but a total stranger? It has happened to me a few times, but two instances really stand out.
A few years ago,I was dining in a restaurant with a friend who kept talking about himself, completely not aware of the fact that I was sitting there in misery. It wasn’t my friend’s talks that made me suffer.I was recovering from a broken heart, and just sitting down to dinner reminded me of my last relationship.I could have burst into tears right there at the table.
When we picked up the check, the waitress said,“Your meal was already paid for.” My friend and I didn’t have a clue how it happened. Then I remembered a man I saw out of the corner of my eye.He was dressed in mostly white, sat down at the bar,had a beer, and stayed for maybe ten minutes. The waitress said,“Yes,the gentleman in white paid for you.” It felt like an angel was saying,“I see you, honey. It’s going to be okay.”
Just last year,I was running a halfmarathon. With just one mile to go,I was out of gas.Runners call it “hitting the wall”.I thought I couldn’t move another inch.Out of nowhere,a stranger came up to me and said,“What’s your name, sweetie? Jennifer? Okay,Jennifer, let’s go! Come on! It’s just around the corner! You can do it!” And he ran with me until I picked up my pace.I found him at the finish line to thank him for the encouragement only to learn he wasn’t even supposed to be in the race that day.
I still shake my head when I think of these momentary angels that came to me at my point of need.Do you have any experiences like these?

24.According to the passage, the man in white .
    A.was the writer’s friend
B.had a big meal in the restaurant
    C.was generous and kindhearted
    D.enjoyed making fun of others
25.The underlined expression in the passage means “ ”.
    A.being hurt by the wall
    B.winning the game
    C.taking a deep breath
    D.running out of energy

In China, the “kingdom of bicycles”, people went everywhere by bicycle. However, now as a result of industrialization, from 1995 to 2005,the number of bikes declined by 35% in Chinese cities, while cars and other motor vehicles doubled. This has left air polluted and roads crowded. In China, pollutant levels have risen alongside urban population growth.
To deal with this issue,Chinese cities have invested increasingly in public transport systems like bikesharing.Bikesharing systems have grown extremely in China in the past decade. The first major models started in European cities Amsterdam and Copenhagen in 1968 and 1995 and offered a service through which citygoers could easily borrow bikes to travel around the city.Since then, bikesharing systems have grown rapidly.
China now has the biggest and largest number of bikesharing programs. One of the largest programs is the Hangzhou Public Bicycle Service. The system is straightforward—pick up a bike from any station and you can ride for free in the first hour.Need another hour? Pay 1 yuan for a second hour.Given its ease and cheapness,it’s no surprise that an average of 310,000 people use the system every day.
However, the adoption of bikesharing wasn’t easy at the beginning. After the 2008 Olympic Games,Beijing struggled in maintaining its bikesharing programs,as bikesharing companies suffered heavy financial(财政的) losses due to little government support and little demand.Shanghai similarly struggled in 2014,with citizens choosing to take taxis or to buy their own bikes. Then things started to look up.And now more bikesharing programs, like Mobike and Ofo,are developing quickly.
Regardless of how bikesharing systems change in China,it’s evident that they’ve made their mark on China’s transport systems,on the way to making the country return to the “kingdom of bicycles” and hopefully regain clean air.

28.What contributed to the birth of bikesharing programs in China?
    A.Rising pollutant levels.
    B.The population growth.
    C.The tradition of riding bicycles.
    D.People’s increasing interest in cycling.
    答案 A
根据第二段第一句可知,this issue应指第一段所提到的“However, now as a result of industrialization...This has left air polluted and roads crowded.”,所以说是机动车导致的城市环境污染催生了共享单车。
29.What can we learn about bikesharing from Paragraph 2?
A.It serves as the most convenient transport system.
B.It is a common means of transport in Europe.
C.It enjoys popularity in most Chinese cities.
D.It has a history of about half a century.
30.What made Shanghai have trouble keeping its bikesharing programs at first?
    A.Little demand.
    B.Too many taxis.
    C.Lack of money.
    D.No government support.
    答案 A
根据第四段的“Shanghai similarly struggled in 2014,with citizens choosing to take taxis or to buy their own bikes.”
31.What would be the best title for the text?
    A.Bikes:An Ecofriendly Means of Transport
    B.The Benefits of Bikesharing
    C.The Kingdom of Bicycles
    D.Bikesharing in China
    D
There was one thought that air pollution affected only the area immediately around large cities with factories and heavy traffic. At present,we realize that although these are the areas with the worst air pollution, the problem is really worldwide.
On several occasions over the past decade,a heavy cloud of air pollution has covered the east of the United States and brought health warnings in distant areas away from any industrial cities. In fact, the very climate of the entire earth may be infected by air pollution. Some scientists consider that the increasing concentration of carbon dioxide in the air resulting from the burning of fossil fuels (coal and oil) is creating a “greenhouse effect”— keeping heat reflected from the earth and raising the world’s average temperature. If this view is correct and the world’s temperature is raised only a few degrees, much of the polar ice cap will melt and cities such as New York,Boston,Miami, and New Orleans will be in water.
Another view, less widely held,is that increasing particular matter in the atmosphere is blocking sunlight and lowering the earth’s temperature—a result that would be equally disastrous.A drop of just a few degrees could create something close to a new ice age,and would make agriculture difficult or impossible in many of our top farming areas.Today we do not know for sure that either of these conditions will happen.Perhaps,if we are lucky enough, the two tendencies will offset each other and the world’s temperature will stay about the same as it is now.Driven by economic profits, people ignore the damage on our environment caused by the “advanced civilization”.Maybe the air pollution is the price the human beings have to pay for their development. But is it really worthwhile?

32.People used to think that air pollution .
A.caused widespread damage in the countryside
B.affected the entire eastern half of the United States
C.had a very bad effect on health
D.existed merely in urban and industrial areas
    33.As to the greenhouse effect,the author .
A.shares the same view with the scientists
    B.is uncertain of its occurrence
    C.rejects it as being ungrounded
D.thinks that it will destroy the world soon
根据第二段最后一句中的“If this view is correct and...”
34.The underlined word “offset” in the last paragraph could be replaced by “ ”.
    A.counteract(抵消) B.break from
    C.get along D.communicate
    答案 A
35.If the world’s temperature lowered just a few degrees .
A.it would not do much harm to life on earth
B.it would lead major farming areas to disaster
C.particular things would increase greatly in the atmosphere
D.seas and oceans would flood many cities

About 43 years ago,I spotted an advertisement in the paper for the YMCA wilderness program. 36 My first experience was a boat trip.I still have the images of sunrises and sunsets with all the beautiful colours on Lake of the Woods.
37 Even now I can feel the cold water dripping (滴) down my arms as we sat in the boat pulling the paddles(桨) awkwardly through running water. It was my first experience in a boat and my arms became tired after many hours of paddling.
We stopped for lunch in the boat by gathering all the boats together. 38
At night it was time to camp at our site picked out by our guide. There we learned to start campfires and cook some of our meals. This is where I fell in love with noodles. 39 We cleaned up our mess and put up our tents and slept on the ground. We learned to carry the heavy packs to our next destination.I developed a sense of accomplishment and had arm muscles after that trip.
There were no phones, makeup, hair dryers...just us and the bush.We came from different backgrounds with different personalities and we all had to work together as a group.
40 I kept a journal from that second trip and often go back to it.
A.They dropped us off in the bush.

Carl lost his job.He tried to find another one but it wasn’t easy.As a result, the poor fellow couldn’t pay his bills and he couldn’t even find anybody to lend him any.
Carl spent most of his days at home.Sometimes he looked out of the window and watched his neighbour’s house. An old professor lived there alone.Strangely,he hardly talked to his neighbours.Carl could see into the professor’s house because he never drew the curtain. The rooms were full of antique(古老的) furniture and vases.Carl thought,“If I got an antique vase,I could sell it for a lot of money.”
Every day Carl saw the professor. He left at 10 o’clock in the morning and came back home at 4 o’clock in the afternoon. He had a dog.Carl often went to the fence and played with it or gave it a piece of meat.
One day Carl thought,“I will go into the professor’s house and steal a vase.I will break the window and climb in.The dog is not a problem.”
There was an old gun in the cellar. It had been his great grandfather’s favourite thing a long time before.Carl didn’t want to use the gun but he thought,“Anything could happen.”
He wanted to hide the gun under his coat but it was too long so he had to cut the end off with a saw.
The next morning he watched the professor leaving home at 10 o’clock.Carl climbed over the fence. The dog ran to him and Carl gave it a big bone.He threw a piece of stone through the window, and it broke. It wasn’t high.He could climb into the house easily.
He looked around inside. There were paintings on the walls, small figures and vases on the shelves and the floor.Carl didn’t know much about arts.He couldn’t choose. He reached his hands towards a big vase when he heard a noise. The front door opened and someone entered the house.
It was the professor. He had forgotten to take an important document with him.

    The professor was scared.

It was the professor. He had forgotten to take an important document with him.Carl became so afraid that he pulled out the gun without thinking. The professor came into the room and saw him.“What are you doing in my house?” he asked surprisingly and angrily.“I haven’t stolen anything.Just let me go or I will shoot,” cried Carl, pointing the gun at the professor with his trembling hands.
The professor was scared.Suddenly,he burst into laughter.“With that gun?” asked the professor.Strangely,he didn’t seem frightened of Carl any more.He continued,“You can’t shoot with that antique gun.You should have put it in the museum actually.” “Is this really an antique gun?” asked Carl.“How much is it worth?” “It was worth about 17,000 dollars,” said the professor.“But now you can get only 100 dollars for it.” “Why?” asked Carl. The professor replied,“Because its end is missing.”
