例如:快乐(happy, delighted, pleased, joyful, enjoyable等)、吃惊(surprised, shocked, amazed, astonished)等形容词或介词短语(to one's surprise, in relief, in panic)等描述人物的情绪。

Sam Watts was a 37yearold fisherman living and working in Canada. One day, Sam planned to head out into the Pacific at 9 am and work straight through until 5 pm the next day. Joining Sam would be his crewman, 24yearold Tom Buck.
Although Sam had been warned that a storm was coming, there was little that would keep him from going. As he sailed through the waves some 120 kilometers from land, Sam let out his threekilometerlong fishing line. The storm was gaining strength on land but had yet to reach the men far offshore. That changed around 1 am. Waves rocked the small boat, which began to turn sideways like an amusement park ride. “Get us out of here!” Tom screamed to Sam. “Let’s go back!”
With the winds and waves kicking up, the boat began to fill with water. Sam and Tom tried to pull in the fishing line together, but the high waves filled the boat with water, forcing Sam to make a hard decision. He cut the line, losing thousands of dollars’ worth of equipment and fish in the sea. He then pointed the boat toward a port five hours away. Sam then called his boss, William Fox, to report his position.
With dawn coming, Sam spotted the rise of the mountains on the horizon. He was figuring out a route through the dangerous waters when suddenly the motor stopped. “I couldn't believe it,” Sam said. “We were 24 kilometers off the coast, and the motor died.” High waves raised and dropped the boat, sending the men crashing into the sides. “William, William!”
Sam yelled into the radio. “If you’re coming to get me, come now!”
“We’re coming!” William shouted back.
Paragraph 1
Shortly after, the radio died and the wind continued to blow straight offshore, driving the men farther out to sea.
Paragraph 2
The next morning, Sam spotted a fishing boat in the distance.
续写第一段:根据首句关键信息“the radio died”和“driving the men farther out to sea”可知该段应叙述Sam和Tom在发动机熄火和无线电死机的情况下,被困海上面临死亡。
Paragraph 1
Shortly after, the radio died and the wind continued to blow straight offshore, driving the men farther out to sea. Fear seized Tom and he was trembling, for the water had not only wet his clothes but also ruined his hope of surviving. Sam murmured, “I was warned that a storm was coming. Had it not been for my stubbornness, we would not have lost our equipment and had to face such a terrible situation.” His voice gradually disappeared as waves rocked the boat, making terrifying sounds. After what seemed to be a century, a great darkness fell. Exhausted, they fell asleep.
Paragraph 2
The next morning, Sam spotted a fishing boat in the distance. He excitedly woke Tom up. Tom rubbed his eyes and stared. Once he caught sight of the boat, he was also lit up. The chance of surviving made them regain strength and they began to shout loudly. The boat saw them and they went aboard. On the boat they met William and other crew members. Although they had lost thousands of dollars, they came to understand the value of hope.

Pumpkin(南瓜) carving at Halloween is a family tradition. We visit a local farm every October. In the pumpkin field, I compete with my three brothers and sister to seek out the biggest pumpkin. Mydadhas a rule that we have to carry our pumpkins back home, and as the eldest child I have an advantage — I carried an 85-pounder back last year.
This year, it was hard to tell whether my prize or the one chosen by my 14-year-old brother,Jason, was the winner. Unfortunately, we forgot to weigh them before taking out their insides, but I was determined to prove my point. All of us were hard at work at the kitchen table, with mymomfilming the annual event. I’m unsure now why I thought forcing myheadinside the pumpkin would settle the matter, but it seemed to make perfect sense at the time.
With the pumpkin resting on the table, hole uppermost, I bent over and pressed my head against the opening. At first I got jammed just above my eyes and then, as I went on with my task, unwilling to quit, mynosebriefly prevented entry. Finally Imanagedto put my whole head into it, like a cork (软木塞) forced into a bottle. I was able to straighten up with the huge pumpkin resting on my shoulders.
My excitement was short-lived. The pumpkin was heavy. “I’m going to set it down, now,” I said, and with Jason helping tosupportits weight, I bent back over the table to give it somewhere torest. It was only when I tried to remove my head that I realized getting out was going to be less straightforward than getting in. When Ipulledhard, my nose got in the way. I got into a panic as I pressed firmly against the table and moved my head around trying to find the right angle, but it was no use. “I can’t get it out!” I shouted, my voice sounding unnaturally loud in the enclosed space.

Paragraph 1
I was stuck for five or six minutes though it felt much longer.
Paragraph 2
That video was posted the day before Halloween.
It was five or six minutes though it felt much longer. I still remembered how I got rescued. After a short while, I started to feel exceedingly painful on my nose which just prevented the entry of the pumpkin. Upon seeing what had happened, overwhelmed with anxiety and fear, mom laid down her phone and approached towards me in a flash. “Don’t use up all your oxygen!” she cried, pushing my head farther into the pumpkin so that she could reach in and undo my rubber band. Only when mom spared enough space for me did I manage to get out of it successfully, though my chin and nose were full of pain. “I made it!” I let out a cry of relief. My 14-year-old brother, Jason, standing in front of me, it was only then that I realized he’d been filming the whole time.
The video was posted the Monday before Halloween. Surprisingly, it became a hit that the video started racking up hundreds of thousands of views. At the very beginning, hardly could I contain my embarrassment when I was recognized as the one in the video. However, with time trickling by, my life was back on track. A family tradition as pumpkin carving at Halloween was, the following year was a more sedate affair. Whenever I thought about the day on which I got my head stuck in a pumpkin, I couldn’t help but laugh out loud. I would say I learned my lesson —look before you leap!

Last year at Christmas time, my wife, three children and I were on our way from Paris to Nice. Somehow everything went wrong. Our hotels were “tourist traps” and our rented car broke down. On Christmas Eve, when we checked into a dirty hotel in Nice, there was no Christmas spirit in our hearts.
It was raining and cold when we went out to eat. We found a small restaurant poorly decorated for the holiday. Only five tables in the restaurant were taken. There were two German couples, two French families, and an American sailor, by himself. They were eating in stony silence except the sailor. He was writing a letter, and a half-smile lighted his face. In the corner a piano player was listlessly (无精打采地) playing Christmas music.
All of us were interrupted by an old French flower woman through the front door. She had a worn overcoat and her old shoes were wet. Carrying her basket of flowers, she went from one table to another. No one bought any. Exhausted and frustrated, she sat down at a table.
The sailor finished his meal and got up to leave. Putting on his coat, he walked over to the flower woman’s table.
“Merry Christmas,” he said, smiling and picking out a handful of flowers. “How much are they?” “Two francs, sir.”
The sailor put a twenty franc note in the woman’s hand.
“I don’t have change, sir,” she said. “I'll get some from the waiter.”
“No, ma’am,” said the sailor, leaning over and kissing the ancient cheek. “This is my Christmas present for you.”

I was in my room, unwilling to head to the community theatre with “my brother” Henry. He was just adopted by my parents recently. I was not in the mood for being onstage with him.
“Kirstie, come here,” my mom called. Following her voice, I found her outside the bathroom, holding a wet book. She gave the book a shake. “Henry’s book was in the bathtub. Did you put it there?” She glared at me, something she never did before Henry came to our home. I didn’t wet his book on purpose. Tears of hurt clouded my eyes. Worse still, she promised to buy him a new copy. My heart ached. Henry was stealing my mother's love. He was ruining my life.
Meanwhile, Henry was just nearby, absorbed in working on a complicated rope knot (绳结) as usual. Why did a boy like him do the girly work? Far from manly!
Soon, it was time to have to set off to the community theatre. As Henry walked ahead of us to the car, my mom took me aside and said in a low voice, “It’s the first time for Henry to be onstage. Be kind to him, Honey.” I nodded but sighed. Being kind didn’t use to be hard. But after Henry moved in, everything felt different. The theatre used to be a special place for my parents and me. With Henry involved, it didn't seem so special any more.
Finally, it was our stage time. My heart beat wildly. I forgot my annoyance at Henry for a while. As we kids lined up, ready to act out our short play, I realized how loosely I had tied the drawstring (束带) on my skirt. Sure enough, my skirt began to drop. Laughter from the audience could be heard, and even though I was wearing shorts under my skirt, I could feel my face burst into flames. However, my hands were full. If only someone could help me out!

Isabella Pieri is an 11-year-old girl who lives with her father and brothers. She lost her mother two years ago because of an illness, which has a great influence on the details of daily life: The father has taken over all the family management, including the need to comb the beautiful red hair of his daughter.
Isabella’s dad chose to cut the girl’s hair. Her hair has been long, thick and undisciplined (蓬乱的). The best he could do was a simple ponytail (马尾辫). Little girls always care very much about their hairstyles. But Isabella didn’t complain to her father about her simple hairstyle. Instead, she turned to the lady who drives the school bus for help.
Sometimes Isabella had seen her classmates rely on the hands of the driver to get their hair in order before getting off the bus. Thus, Tracy Dean came on the scene, with skills obviously not limited to driving large vehicles. Knowing the girl’s story, Tracy decided to comb her hair every morning. Therefore, Isabella can show off a look every day that inspires her to hold her head high.
Does all this daily care come from a simple instinct (本能) of goodness? It’s something more. A few years ago, Tracy Dean had cancer, and the fear of dying had led her to wonder who would take care of her children if she was dead. Mysteriously, that open wound in her heart prepared her for a lucky encounter with the same wounded heart of Isabella. Every day when she meets Isabella on the bus, she combs her hair and says she would like to introduce Isabella to her children. “Every hair on your head is counted.” she always says to Isabella. Tracy even expects Isabella to live with her children, which she believes would help her children to live a happy life when one day they are not with their mother.
Paragraph 1
The story of Isabella and Tracy spreads quickly.
Paragraph 2
Isabella feels she is lucky to gain so much help.

When I was a child growing up in the Netherlands, I often begged my mother to tell me this story about an experience her family had at the end of World War Ⅱ.
During the terrible last winter of the German occupation, food was rare in the Netherlands. People were so hungry that they began to eat small animals and many things not normally considered edible (可食用的), including tulip bulbs (郁金香球茎), which could be cooked like potatoes.
For centuries my mother’s family had owned a highly successful tulip business, which provided jobs for many in our village. But the war shut their business down, and during the winter of hunger, my grandfather, Albert, donated all his tulip bulbs to feed the hungriest villagers. For years, Albert had been trying to grow a black tulip. By careful selection, he was very close. So he guarded these few bulbs seriously to prevent people from stealing them for food.
One day, it was announced that the war was over. But there was much destruction and the Dutch people still faced dangers. My grandfather looked at his pale, thin children and realized that the hunger could continue for a long time, so he made his decision. He seized a shovel (铁铲) and went into the garden. There he found my mother, Vivian, who was just seven years old, looking nervous. Over her shoulder, Albert saw a band of Germans coming toward them down the street. He whispered to Vivian to run inside the house and began digging for his bulbs. But it was too late. Someone had already stolen them. Angry and desperate, he ran toward the street screaming, “They have stolen my tulip bulbs!” Vivian, watching from the doorway, cried out and ran to stop him. Before she could reach her father, a German soldier raised his gun and shot him.

Paragraph 1
Then the sailor headed for our table with the flowers in his hand. He picked out a red flower and placed it on our table. “Merry Christmas!” he greeted us in a cheerful voice. Before we could say “Thank you”, he went to other tables. In an instant, everyone in the room was presented with flowers, including the waiter and the piano player. In the bright light, the flowers were glowing in full bloom. These magical flowers melted our frustrated hearts and blew away all the unpleasant moods.
Paragraph 2
The piano player came alive and pleasant music filled the whole room. A festival atmosphere drowned all of us. We merrily danced to the joyful music, singing, laughing and wishing each other good luck. The old flower woman also joined us, unable to conceal her excitement and gratitude. The spirit of Christmas came back to us again. It brought all of us together in this small restaurant on a foreign land. All this was due to a young American sailor, who, through his kindness and generosity, brightened our paths.
B
Right then, Henry sensed my embarrassment. He immediately came to my aid. He pulled up my skirt and skillfully tied the drawstring with a beautiful knot. Seeing what Henry did for me, something deep in my mind began to change. It seemed as if my cold heart began to melt slowly and my annoyance at him gradually gave way to guilt. I regretted having treated him as a stranger. While my mind was wandering, our performance time came. It turned out a great success, thunderous applause filling the whole theatre.
After the performance, I found Henry and tapped him on the arm gratefully. “Thanks,” I said with a grateful smile on my face. I had to admit that but for his timely help, I would have been extremely embarrassed. Without his knotting skill, the performance would have been quite different. “KNOT a problem. You are my sister,” he grinned innocently, saying humorously. Surrounded by the cheerful atmosphere, I felt a flood of warmth of a big family. Maybe it wouldn’t be so bad to have a new person in my corner of the world after all.
C
One possible version:
Paragraph 1
The story of Isabella and Tracy spreads quickly.Isabella not only meets more people who would like to comb her hair but also many to provide financial help for her family. When she walks on the street with her father on the weekend, people meeting them always gently touch her hair, which makes Isabella feel very happy. Meanwhile, many people are willing to help Tracy. A hospital has even offered her free medical treatment. She never thought what she had done for Isabella would mean so much.
Paragraph 2
Isabella feels she is lucky to gain so much help. Now she can raise her head in front of her classmates, not only because of her tidy hair but also because of the confidence she has gained. She is very grateful for all the help she has received and determined to do what she can to help others in need when she grows up, even though what she can do might be something slight. She believes small things can also make a big difference to others’ life.
D
Fortunately, Albert survived his wounds and recovered slowly. And he was told that the tulip bulbs had also survived. One day, Vivian took him to a deserted house. He was overwhelmingly joyed as he noticed something green among the broken bricks of the house. Vivian explained that a friendly German soldier urged her to hide the remaining bulbs away from the yard as he had watched as Albert gave away the precious bulbs to feed his neighbors, which impressed him a lot. With the good news, Albert was determined to start his business again.
It took some time for Albert to rebuild his business, starting with those few bulbs. With the help of his family, Albert owned a highly successful tulip business again. The rare dark-purple tulips eventually became an enormous source of income for the people in the village and provided many much-needed jobs. Tulips rose from the ruins and came to bloom again, which suggests that there could again be happiness after so much misery and new life after much death.
