Every one of us may have been hurt by others—either by their words or actions. The best way to deal with the problem is to “forgive and forget”.
“It is well established that learning to forgive others can have positive benefits for one’s physical and mental health,” Saima Noreen, a scientist at the University of St. Andrews, UK, told the Huffington Post.
Recently, Noreen and her research team have found one more reason that you should stick to this principle—forgiving somebody who has hurt you makes it easier for you to forget the unhappy memory, according to their new study.
In the study, researchers asked volunteers to read descriptions of 40 different situations that contained bad actions such as stealing, lying and cheating. Imagining being the victims (受害者), volunteers then had to decide whether they would be able to forgive. Two weeks later, volunteers took part in a memory test. In the test, they were shown a series of words related to the situations they had read about and then were asked to recall certain ones.
The results showed that people were less likely to remember the details of the unpleasant experiences if they had found forgiveness in their hearts. In contrast, if they hadn’t forgiven the mistake, they could always remember what had happened.
However, forgiving someone who has hurt you is always easier said than done. So Noreen hopes that one day in the near future research will give rise to powerful therapeutic (有疗效的) tools that will enable people to “forgive and forget” more effectively.

Most people may think that people who write computer code must be good at math and logical thinking. However, people who write computer code say that creativity is also an important quality for coding.
Software developers in the American state of California have created a game called Osmo Coding Jam. The game is designed to help children use the creative side of their minds as they learn to code. Children can play the game on iPads. There are many activities they can do by the game.
Tanya Dodge is the mother of two children, nine-year-old Dylan and his 11-year-old sister Meghan, who play the game. According to her, these activities give them important skills for the future. “It’s an analytical skill that the kids are going to need to have as they grow up today” said Dodge.
But the developers of Osmo Coding Jam believe writing code should be more than just an analytical skill. “We want to explore the creative side of coding that I think is often not as explored,” said Felix Hu, an Osmo engineer. Hu added, “The coolest part is that we’re teaching kids how to be creative with code and that’s a really important thing that kids should get comfortable with because coding is creative.”
Hu also sees a growing number of parents who feel that software code is a second language that children need to learn to succeed in future jobs. Tanya Dodge, the mother of Dylan and Meghan, consents. She said, “I think you’re going to have to understand at some point the idea of coding will work well in the future.”
Hu also explained that very often kids grow up not understanding how a computer works or just thinking that it’s like a magical machine. He said by breaking it down to a lower level, kids can understand that the computer isn’t as smart as they think it is.
46. Osmo Coding Jam is designed for ________.
A. training kids’ logical thinking
B. helping kids learn to code fast
C. helping children learn math well
D. helping kids become more creative

48. Which of the following statements is True according to the text?
A. Tanya Dodge agrees that coding is good for children to succeed in future jobs.
B Many parents doubts whether coding will help children work well in the future.
C. Creativity is not so important as logical thinking for coding.
D. Tanya Dodge has two girls, who play the game, Osmo Coding Jam.
49. What can we know about kids’ learning coding from the last paragraph?
A. It makes them much more confident and creative.
B. It makes them like using computers more.
C. It helps them know better about computers.
D. It helps them know better about themselves.
50. What’s the author’s purpose in writing the passage?
A. To tell how to learn to code well.
B. To tell about a new game for kids.

Charity is simple in theory: A heart warms, a hand reaches out. In practice, though, charity can become a troubled mix of motives and consequences. Giving can be driven by guilt, duty, praise, or perhaps the hope that giving will somehow make up for past cruelty or ignorance. Too little charity is far less than valuable. Too much can cause over-reliance, which makes the receiver continuously ask for more.
Giving from the heart is good. But critics have long worried about misdirected charity that does more harm than good. In his 2012 book, Harmful Charity: How Churches and Charities Hurt Those They Help (And How to Solve the Problem), Robert Lupton, an experienced social worker of 40 years of community work in inner-city Atlanta, argues that charity must not do for the poor what they can do for themselves.
Due to emergencies such as natural disasters, the afterward financial aid is greatly welcome. Mr. Lupton advocates it should focus on the development of self-supporting. The task can be carried out via, for instance, offering micro-loans, hiring local builders and suppliers, and trying to found self-supported, locally owned and operated factories. What seldom works, he argues, are untargeted handouts from far-off providers and the sudden arrival of inexperienced volunteer-tourists hoping to earn personal reputation by digging wells or mending roofs that locals are perfectly able to take care of themselves.
Getting charity right isn’t easy. But from money raising to the rising in volunteering among Millennials(千禧一代), from the increasing worldwide willingness to give to the efforts by charity organizations to become more effective and fruitful, there is strong evidence that human beings’ ability of taking care of others is growing along with their ability to help without harming.
Charity can be as simple as holding the door for a stranger and as complex as a global campaign to get rid of malaria(疟疾). Charity works best when it returns the weak to strength, and helps a small town shaken by an earthquake get back on its feet. A successful charity is one that eventually is no longer needed.
51. What can we know about charity in paragraph 1?
A. Charity is simple in both theory and practice.
B. Some charity providers are cruel or ignorant.
C. There is much less charity than needed.
D. Charity may result in dependence.
52. Why have critics worried about misdirected charity?
A. It may have a bad impact on receivers. B. It may cause hurt to social workers.
C. It can be driven by guilt and duty. D. It may help less to the poor.
53. What can be a proper way to give charity in time of natural disasters?
A. Hiring local workers. B. Founding advanced factories.
C. Building houses for victims. D. Giving untargeted handouts.
54. What can we learn from paragraph 4?
A. It’s easy to give charity without harming.
B. Millennials enjoy earning personal reputation.
C. There appears ability promotion in giving charity.
D. Charity organizations are spreading all over the world.
55. What is the writing purpose of the text?
A. To appeal for more charity.
B. To advocate getting charity right.
C. To introduce the process of performing charity.
D. To criticize unjust motives and results for charity.

GRAMMY award-winning blues harmonica (口琴) player Sugar Blue made his first China performance in December 2017. Chinese audiences were amazed by his stormy playing of the harmonica.
Born on December 16, 1949 in New York, Sugar Blue is a great singer and composer. Sugar Blue’s love for music comes from his mother. Till today, he still vividly remembers the first time his mother took him to the Apollo Theater to see Stevie Wonder, a music genius. The way Wonder played the harmonica onstage greatly impressed Sugar Blue and made him even more determined to spend his life working on his musical dream.
Sugar Blue’s musical career has been quite smooth, in which New York City plays an integral part. At that time, the musical atmosphere in New York was very diverse, jazz, blues, pop, rock, etc.
He tries to pour everything that he feels about a song into it. His inspiration comes from people and the things that he comes across in his daily life, involving personal relationships, love, work, and daily struggles. In his eyes, you can write about the wonderful things that happen to you and you can also write about things that are not so good. He also draws inspiration from literature. Besides poetry, Zora Neale Hurston’s book also influenced him a lot, which is in his eyes “poetry from the first word to the last.”
Among the cities he has been to, Shanghai is his favorite. “In Shanghai, there’s rock and roll, jazz, hip-hop, traditional Chinese music. I had a wonderful experience.” he said. “The city itself is full of life and energy.”
In his new album, Sugar Blue writes a song about Shanghai to show his special love of it. The song features well-known Chinese sheng musician’s playing. Sugar Blue loves this song and highly values such cooperation with Chinese musicians.
