Europe's Best Upcoming Food Festivals
Matstreif (Oslo, Norway), July 11-12
With a wide variety of dishes available at wallet-sparing prices, this event sees more than 200 food stalls open for business in Oslo's City Hall Square.
Bold foodies should try “rakfisk"- rotten fish. If that sounds a bit much, there's always“svele", a kind of pancake that originates from western Norway.
Loch Lomond Food and Drink Festival (Loch Lomond, Scotland), August4 -6
The 10th annual edition of this festival offers one of the best showcases for Scottish produce. On the menu are local specialties and venison (鹿肉) from the surrounding national park.
For those who like a competitive edge with their lunch, there's even a “haggis" eating contest that pits eight hungry visitors against each other to see who can eat a pound of the local food quickest.
Stuttgarter Weindorf (Stuttgart, Germany), August 21- -25
This food festival celebrates wine on the land of beer.
German wine is obviously underrated. Stuttgart's annual Weindorf sees 28 open air restaurants serving more than 500 wines from Baden and Wurttemberg, with reds, whites, roses and sparkling versions all available. Fresh pretzels and chocolates will also be available to help mop up the alcohol.
Cheese 2015 (Bra, Italy), August 27- September 2
The name is a bit of a giveaway here. This bi-annual event sees Italy's best cheese makers gather on the small town of Bra.
It's free to visit, although plenty of euros are needed to pay for samples and try out some of the courses on offer. Whatever they are hunting for, cheese lovers will be well taken care of. They just need to make sure there's time for post- cheese snooze (瞌睡) before the next round of cheese tasting.

Lauren Price has come a long way from a taxi driver to an Olympic champion. She pursued her Olympic dream all the way to winning the middleweight gold medal at the Tokyo Games.
“When I look back now, I have to pinch (掐) myself at times, because I still think it's mad that I won the Olympics," Price told the media.
Raised by her grandparents, she was always encouraged to play sports. “They've always backed me. If it wasn't for them, I wouldn't have achieved anything," Price said. Her grandma used to say to her, “Reach for the moon and if you fall short, you'll land on the stars."
She began with football. But Price was also a high standard kickboxer and was then talent-scouted by a taekwondo coach before she switched to boxing.
“For me the big turning point was as a child being inspired by Kelly Holmes. I remember watching her on TV and I was like, ‘Oh My God, I want to go to the Olympics," Price recalled. “I had that dream over the years. I just worked hard. I believe if you put the effort in, you'll get to where you want to be."
When Price was breaking into the Welsh boxing team, funding was extremely limited. So she worked as a driver for a taxi company when she was still a teenager. “I was training Monday to Thursday and then I was taxi driving Friday and Saturday nights. I'd start work at five pm and I'd finish at four in the morning, picking up all the drunken passengers," she remembered. That was a different kind of education. “It's quite funny now when I look back," Price smiled.
Ultimately, she excelled as a boxer. Price won every major gold medal going, despite the difficulties of competing against bigger opponents outside of her weight class.

In about 23 years, it may finally be time to loo up. A recently discovered asteroid (小行星) has a chance of hitting the earth on Valentine's Day in 2046. It was discovered on Feb.26 at an observatory in San Pedro de Atacama, Chile.
While the thought of an asteroid hitting the earth may sound concerning, National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) says people shouldn't be worried.
The asteroid has an estimated diameter of 160 feet, which is about the same size as an Olympic swimming pool or the width of a football field.
“We've been tracking a new asteroid named 2023 DW that has a very small chance of impacting the earth. Often when new objects are discovered, it takes several weeks' data to reduce the uncertainties and adequately predict their orbits years into the future," NASA's Planetary Defense Coordination Office (PDCO) said.
The asteroid is ranked on the Torino Scale as level 1 threat. The scale is a tool to categorize potential earth impacts, with zero being no threat and 10 being something that can cause a global disaster. One on the Torino Scale means 2023 DW is in the normal, or green zone.
“Current calculations show the chance of collision (碰撞) is extremely unlikely with no need for public concern," NASA says of the green zone. “New telescopic observations will very likely lead to re assignment to Level 0."
Although 2023 DW doesn't pose a great risk to the earth, NASA has been continuing to work to defend our planet from any asteroid that could cause disaster.
In September, 2022, NASA crashed its Double Asteroid Redirection Test spacecraft, or DART, into an asteroid to see if it could change the trajectory of the space rock. NASA later confirmed the mission was a success, and is continuing to research how effective the method is, should a massive asteroid be headed our way.
8. What does NASA's PDCO say about 2023 DW?
A. It is too close to the earth.
B. It must be destroyed in space.
C. Its orbit is still uncertain now.
D. Its orbit should be changed.
9. How is 2023 DW ranked on the Torino Scale?
A. As Level zero threat:
B. As Level ten threat.
C. In the normal zone.
D. In the threatening zone.
10. What does the underlined word “trajectory" mean in the last paragraph?
A. Size.
B. Weight.
C. Angle.
D. Path.
11. Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A. An Asteroid Was Discovered at an Observatory in Chile
B. An Asteroid Is Coming Our Way, Unlikely to Hit Us
C. A Space Rock Has Just Passed the Earth
D. A Spacecraft Has Been Crashed Recently

Maria Jones had just finished teaching a yoga class when she happened to notice an elderly man walking around by himself in the city center of Aberdeen, Scotland.
As they shared a packet of chocolate bars over a coffee, Maria learned that Tom Smith, who was 83, had left his home that day for the first time in three years. Driven by extreme loneliness, he decided to take a ride on the bus. He'd taken two different buses that day.
According to Age UK, 1.1 million older people rely on using public transport for company. While health and mobility issues can lead to social isolation, the COVID- 19 lockdown, coupled with the upsetting effect of the cost of living crisis, has contributed to a loneliness epidemic (流行病) among the UK's older population.
Senior expert Sally Baker sees the necessity of establishing a programme to reconnect the older people with their local communities. And helping them access local transport links is the first step. She says that she understands why travelling on public transport can help to reduce loneliness. It offers a setting for conversations to spark up. “Sitting side by side is often less inhibiting (约束的) than direct eye contact," she said.
However, Age UK is aware that many older people feel worried about getting out and about, with 38 percent saying they don't feel confident using public transport.
That's why the charity has initiated the Travelling Companions' pilot programme, designed to help older people who might be feeling lonely to get out and about confidently. Each older person is matched with a volunteer who will help them achieve their travel goals.
One man at 80, who has been helped by Age UK's new project, says, "The programme is making my world a lot bigger and brighter."
12. Why is Tom Smith's experience mentioned in the text?
A. To give an example of someone getting lost.
B. To introduce the major topic to be discussed.
C. To illustrate the boring daily life of 80-year-olds.
D. To stress the value of chatting with older people.
13. What can we learn from paragraph 4?
A. Older people need help to rebuild social connections.
B. Travelling alone on buses can be unsafe for older people.
C. Many older people take buses to ease anxiety.
D. It's necessary to offer older people free bus rides.
14. What is Age UK according to the text?
A. A research institute.
B. A senior citizen care center.
C. A bus company.
D. A charity organization.
15. What is the text mainly about?
A. The widespread old age problem in the UK.
B. Loneliness among the UK's older population.
C. A programme to help older people use public transport.
D. Volunteers who accompany the elderly people on their trips.

A bunch of pretty flowers will usually make a friend smile. We know flowers cannot last, but surely there are ways to keep some of their beauty. 16______
You can press either whole flowers or single petals (花瓣). This depends on what type of flowers you use. First, divide the flower. The texture (材质) of the paper used for drying will change the look of the petals. For instance, if you use a rough paper towel, its pattern will transfer to the flower. 17______
Keep the books in a warm, dry place. The petals should be dry enough for use after two weeks. They will feel much like paper. You are now ready to make a design. It is best to start by making an outline with a pencil 18______ Using a nonacid white glue will help the picture last longer.

When I was fifteen, I lived with my family in a small town. My father's profession was such that the whole family had to shift frequently from one place to another. My mother was a housewife and my sister was an artist. Due to my father 's transfer (调动) after every 3-4 years, my school life was terrible. I had to start a new life in new schools and make new friends. Because of this, I always felt lonely.
One Friday afternoon, I went with my friend Rocky to his home. As soon as the door opened, a pet dog jumped on Rocky and started licking his face. I asked Rocky, “Why is your pet doing this?" Rocky replied, “My doggy loves me so much. This is the way he shows his love. Animals can't speak, but they too have feelings." His reply was so touching that it made me think about keeping a pet dog.
After going back home, I shared the whole incident with my mother and sister and expressed my desire. My mother said, “It's up to you, but if you keep a dog, it will be entirely your responsibility to look after it." My sister thought it wonderful to have a pet dog in the house, and she supported me. Now the real task for me was my father. We were pure vegetarians, and my father knew that animals needed non-vegetarian food for proper nutrition and growth. Therefore, my father was strictly against having a pet.
That evening when my father came back home, I asked him for a pet dog. After listening to my request, he said a clear no. Several days later, while I was walking in a park near my house, I saw a homeless puppy who was in pain because of an injured ear. He looked weak and sad. Out of pity, I decided to take the little dog home.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
From that day on, I took good care of the puppy, who I named Deedo.
One day, I found my father 's attitude towards Deedo changed.

My favorite painting is Along the River During the Qingming Festival, one of the most admired Chinese paintings in the world. It was painted on a silk scroll by Zhang Zeduan during the Northern Song Dynasty. The painting's great appeal is that it shows us how ordinary people lived at that time. It is now placed as a national treasure in the Palace Museum. It is not only a true work of art but also gives us a rare insight into daily life in ancient China. There is no doubt that it is one of the most amazing ancient Chinese paintings.
