It was first done in the U.K. by TYF Adventure (01437 721611, www.tyf.com) and several thousand people jump from the cliffs near St David's each year. A half day canyoning trip costs £50 (£30 for children under 16).

Last September, British artist Sacha Jafri set the record for creating the world's largest painting. Last week, the painting was sold for $62 million, which will go to charity.
Last year, as COVID19 spread and many countries went into lockdown, Mr. Jafri was in Dubai. Rather than feeling stuck, Mr. Jafri decided to take on a huge project that could “make a really big difference”.
He decided to create the world's largest painting. And he wanted to do it in a way that would include people from around the world. He asked children to send him pictures showing how they were feeling during the pandemic(疫情). He got artwork from kids in 140 different countries.
Using the children's ideas as a starting point, Mr. Jafri began to paint in a huge dancing room in a fancy hotel. It took Mr. Jafri seven months to create the painting. He worked long hours every day—often up to 20 hours a day. He hurt his back by bending over so much while he painted. It took over 1,000 paintbrushes and 6,300 liters of paint to create the painting. The painting, which was over 1,600 square meters, was around the size of four basketball courts.
Mr. Jafri hoped that his painting, called “The Journey of Humanity”, would help bring the world together during a difficult time. Since Mr. Jafri's goal was to raise money to help children suffering from the pandemic, the painting was split up into 70 large parts. Mr. Jafri hoped that by selling the parts separately, he could raise $30 million.
But when the auction(拍卖) ended on March 22, Mr. Jafri did much better than that. A French businessman bought all the pieces. Knowing that the money would go to charity also motivated him to decide to pay more. He says he was poor when he grew up, so he's glad to be helping children around the world by buying the painting.
24.How did Sacha Jafri create the large painting?
A.He finished the painting with kids in his room.
B.He made the painting under 140 kids' guidance.
C.He got painting inspiration from kids' pictures.
D.He filled his whole artwork with kids' drawings.
25.What can we know about the large painting?
A.It remained complete all the time. B.It was made to set a world record.
C.It earned the artist a better living. D.It took the artist a lot of efforts.
26.Why did Sacha Jafri create the painting?
A.To develop kids' love for art. B.To help fight the pandemic.
C.To show pandemic sufferings. D.To kill time and seek pleasure.
27.Which of the following words can describe the French businessman?
A.Sympathetic and generous. B.Brave and determined.
C.Modest and honest. D.Creative and hardworking.

The UK Space Agency (UKSA) has given more than £1 million towards tracking satellites and space junk in orbit.
The money will be given to seven companies that are working on ways to develop new sensor technologies that spot objects in space, working out what they are and track them.
Finding better ways to monitor everything currently in orbit has become a big priority because, with more and more satellites being launched, there is growing concern about the possibility of collisions.
Added to that are around 900,000 objects—made up of old space equipment that no longer works, and junk like gloves and tool kits accidentally dropped by astronauts—that are still in orbit. The UK Space Agency is owned by the government and is responsible for strengthening the UK's position in the space sector (领域).
Although some space junk is very small, only around 1 cm, it could do a lot of damage and even completely destroy a spacecraft if there was a highspeed collision. It is hoped that the new research can create something like an automated traffic management system in the future, which will keep functioning satellites out of harm's way.
Jacob Geer from UKSA said, “Space tracking is one of the key things we can do to keep safe those satellites we rely on now, and to make sure certain orbits don't become obstructed for future generations because there is too much junk in them.”
The Ministry of Defence and UKSA recently agreed to work together when it comes to space, with both having valuable satellites in orbit that they want to protect.
The UK government is now partowner of the OneWeb satellite broadband company, which has launched 74 satellites and has plans to put up thousands more.
28.Why has UKSA given a large amount of money to some companies?
A.To keep track of satellites and space junk. B.To help the seven companies.
C.To spot new objects in space. D.To explore space.
29.What can we infer from Paragraph 3?
A.There is an urgent need to clear up the orbit in space.
B.More and more satellites should be launched into space.
C.Satellites may crash into each other if left unconcerned.
D.There have been better ways to solve problems concerning space.
30.Which of the following can replace the underlined word “obstructed” in Paragraph 6?
A.Incredible. B.Impossible. C.Unavoidable. D.Inaccessible.
31.What would be the best title for the text?
A.UKSA has launched more satellites
B.UKSA has offered financial support to protect satellites
C.UKSA has found better ways to monitor space
D.UKSA has detected too much junk in space

The days of staring at the computer screen pretending to be interested in an assignment even though you are bored out of your mind may soon be coming to an end. That's because if Dr Harry Witchel, Discipline Leader in Physiology at England's Brighton and Sussex Medical School, has his way, computers of the future will be able to detect boredom and even react to it realtime.
But before you get concerned, the machine is not reading your mind. It is just keeping track of the constant involuntary(无意识的)movements that people exhibit when in front of a computer or even a television. These are not the bigger instrumental actions like moving a mouse or using the remote, but barely noticeable movements like scratching, fidgeting, or stretching. Witchel says the level of movement is directly linked to how absorbed the person is in what he or she is reading or watching. The higher the interest level, the less the movement!
To test the theory, Witchel and his team invited 27 people and exposed them to a variety of digital content for three minutes at a time. The activities ranged from playing online games to reading documents like the banking regulations that most people would find boring.
A video motion tracker monitored their movements as they powered through each assignment. Just as the researchers had expected, the involuntary actions decreased dramatically, by as much as 42%, when the participants were totally absorbed in what they were reading or seeing.
Fortunately, the scientists are not planning to use the findings to create machines that report students who are not focusing at school. Instead, they believe that combining the motion detecting technology with future computers will help enhance the digital learning experience.
The scientists say that being able to measure the students' interest level will enable educators to adjust the materials realtime and reengage the students. Witchel also believes that the technology can provide filmmakers with honest audience opinions.
32.According to Dr Harry, what will future computers be able to do?
A.Keep a learner from distraction.
B.Identify dullness of a learner and respond to it.
C.Read a learner's mind exactly realtime.
D.Help a learner with his assignments.
33.How does an absorbed learner tend to behave?
A.Perform fewer involuntary actions.
B.Use less energy in an assignment.
C.Laugh and shout excitedly.
D.Show noticeable movements constantly.
34.What is the value of this technology for educators?
A.Bettering their digital learning experience.
B.Introducing more computers into class.
C.Detecting what interests the students most.
D.Finding the absentminded students in class.
35.What is the author's purpose in writing the text?
A.To explain how life will be shaped by technology.
B.To update educators' teaching concept.
C.To show what learning will be like in the future.
D.To introduce an upcoming technology.

For most people, life has become a burden on their shoulders, and its weight is growing heavier and heavier, until one day they can't carry it anymore. So how can we design a life that is less complex and more meaningful? With minimalism (极简主义). __36__ The following ways will assist you in your journey to living a simper yet fuller life.
__37__ Most people's living space is filled with things that are never used and don't contribute to their wellbeing. Separate the ones you do need from the ones you don't, and throw the latter right into the dustbin—or better, give them away to people who might actually benefit from them.
Appreciate all the amazing things you already have. We constantly compare ourselves to others who seem happier, more beautiful and more important than us. We try our best to imitate those we envy. __38__ We need to stop comparing and accept ourselves for who we are, with all our imperfections. Take a moment to appreciate what you have.
Do one thing at a time. Minimalist living actually means making the most out of each and every moment. We're usually carrying out different tasks at the same time. So whatever we are doing, our mind is partly wondering somewhere else. __39__
Develop mindfulness. __40__ Thus you need to develop mindfulness. Mindfulness means fully attending to what's happening in the present. There are many ways one can do so. Perhaps the most common way is to sit for about 30 minutes somewhere comfortably with your upper back straight and pay full attention to your breath as it's coming in and out through your nose. In this way, you won't be distracted by your thoughts.
A.Stop multitasking and concentrate on a single thing at a time.
B.Get rid of things that don't serve your happiness.
C.Minimalist living requires a calm and undisturbed mind.
D.Stop consuming products you don't need.
E.Yet no matter how much we try, we always fail.
F.Unfortunately, our minds are filled with worries in our busy lives.
G.It is about enjoying life more with less.

Grandfather was a wise and honorable man. His house was not far from ours, and I would visit him often going home after school.
No matter how rotten I had been, I could tell Grandpa anything. My secrets were safe. Whenever there was a problem, he gave me the tools to fix it. I knew I would always find the best answer from him. He always understood. He loved me.
I remember a time when a bunch of us were playing baseball in the field behind Mrs. Ferguson's house. I hit one pitch(投球) just right and slammed! It was a home run (全垒打)that soared high and away, and ended up breaking Old Lady Ferguson's kitchen window! We all ran! Walking home, my best friend, Tom, asked, “How will she ever know who did it? She's blinder than a bat!” He had a point.
I was afraid that Mrs. Ferguson would stay mad at me, so I ran. I didn't know what she would do. I tried to calm down. However, my stomach was in knots(痉挛). On the way home, I imagined that she was a mean witch chasing me, and the further way I ran, the larger she grew. . until finally she towered over the whole town, seeing my every move with an evil eye. Thoughts rushed through my mind. Would Mrs. Ferguson stay mad at me? Would she call police? Worse still, would she tell my parents I couldn't even imagine the disappointment on Mom and Dad's face. They were hoping I would act honestly and in a responsible way.
I decided to stop by Grandpa's. I felt ashamed. I wanted to hide. I wanted to knock my head against a tree a thousand times and make the world just go away-as if punishing myself could undo(消除)things.
“I would tell everything to Grandpa, " a voice inside me said.
“I was wrong. ” I told him, with my head down. He must have known something was up by the expression on my face. He knew we had been warned many times about the dangers of playing where we shouldn't.
