(2022·山东济宁·中考真题)As we all know, too much trash is a big problem for our environment. A woman in Indonesia’s Java island has come up with a great idea—lending books to children in exchange for trash.
Raden Roro Hendarti, nearly 50 years old, is a librarian in Muntang village. She started a “trash library”, hoping to make children read more as well as make them realize the importance of environment protection. When was the last time you read a book, or a magazine article? Do you often read on the Internet or through the smartphones? Reading has a large number of advantages, and here’re some to get you to start reading.
※Mental Stimulation (脑力锻炼)
Studies have shown that staying mentally stimulated can slow the progress of (or possibly even prevent) mental illnesses, since keeping your brain active prevents it from losing power. Just like any other muscle (肌肉) in the body, the brain requires exercise to keep it strong and healthy, so the phrase “use it or lose it” especially fits when it comes to your mind. Doing puzzles (谜) and playing games such as chess have also been found to be helpful.
※Memory Improvement
When you read a book, you have to remember different kinds of characters, their backgrounds, history and plots (情节) through every story. That’s a lot to remember, but brains are fantastic things and can remember these things with relative ease. Amazingly enough, every new memory you create is helpful for recalling. How cool is that?
※Improved Focus
Nowadays, our attention is separated in many different directions at once as we face different tasks every day. When you read a book, all of your attention is focused on the story—the rest of the world will be silent, and you can get yourself into every fine story you’re reading.
Try reading for 15—20 minutes before you work or study, and you’ll be surprised at how much more focused you are once you get to the office or school.
22.According to the passage, our brain needs ________ to keep it strong and healthy.
A.muscle B.food C.backgrounds D.exercise
23.You have to keep EXCEPT ________ in your mind while reading.
A.history B.characters C.chess D.plots
24.The underlined phrase “with relative ease” in the third paragraph probably means ________.

25.Reading for 15—20 minutes before work or study can help you ________ from the passage.
A.get more information B.get good grades C.improve focus D.improve speed
26.“________” can best describe the main idea of the passage.
A.Why we should read B.What we should read
C.How we can improve our memory D.When you have to read
