    Lesson 30: Science Affects Us

    设计说明

    本课共两篇电子邮件,采取分别教学的原则。首先,通过描述Lesson 25所学实验的过程引入本课第一封电子邮件的学习,并通过讨论该实验,利用图片学习其中的生词和短语。接着,通过听后回答问题、读后回答问题和阅读找短语并翻译短语三个步骤展开学习该电子邮件。然后,利用手机的图片并通过谈论手机对生活的影响学习生词和短语,并利用Let’s Do It! No.2练习巩固所学词汇。其次,进入对第二封电子邮件的学习:通过听后回答问题、读后匹配、读后填空 (Let’s Do It! No.1)、读后复述等环节逐步加深对该邮件的学习和理解。最后,利用Let’s Do It! No.3练习描述发明对日常生活的影响。

    整个课堂既体现了阅读教学的环节和目的,又融入了对听说的练习,达到了听、说、读的相互交融和共同练习的目的。

    教学目标

    通过本课节的教学,学生达成以下目标:

    1. 知识目标

    掌握单词:suggest, development, mobile phone, discovery

    接触单词:affect

    短语:turn...over, push up, push down, in place

    2. 能力目标

    (1) 掌握本课所学的单词和英语表达;

    (2) 能用英语描述实验过程;

    (3) 能描述科技的发展对我们日常生活的影响。

    3. 情感目标

    努力学习科学知识,让科学造福人类。

    1. 重点掌握本课所学的单词和英语表达。

    2. 难点能描述科技的发展对我们日常生活的影响。

    教学过程

    Step 1  Warming up

    Get the class to describe how to do the experiment according to the pictures.

         

    Step 2  Presentation  

    Teach the new words suggest and expressions turn...over, in place, push up, push down with the pictures by talking about the experiment.

    Teacher says: When we do the experiment, we should turn the jar upside down.

    That is, we should turn the jar over. After we take our hands off, the water in the jar can’t pour out. Why? Because the air pressure pushing up on the cardboard is higher than that of the water pushing down from inside the jar. The higher air pressure outside the jar holds the cardboard in place. The experiment is very interesting. I suggest you try it, too.

      

                             

     

     

     

     

     

     

     

    Step 3  Listening and answering

    Get the class to listen to the first email and answer the questions.

    1.Who is the email to?

     Answers: 1. Wang Mei.   2. Jenny.

    Step 4  Reading

    1. Get the class to read the first email and answer the questions.

    (1) When did they do the experiment?

    (2) How many steps do they need to do the experiment?  

    (3) Why does the cardboard hold the water in the jar?

    (4) What does Jenny think of science?

    Answers: (1) This week.  (2) Two.  

    (3) The air pressure pushing up on the cardboard is higher than that of the water pushing down from inside the jar. The higher air pressure outside the jar holds the cardboard in place.

    (4) It’s interesting.

    2. Get the class to read the first email and find the following expressions. Then

    translate them into Chinese.

    cover...with sth. 用某物盖住……

     turn…over把……翻转  

    take...off把……拿开

    push up向上推

     push down向下按

     in place原地;在适当的位置

    Step 5  Presentation

      Teach the new words affect, development, discovery, mobile phone with the pictures by talking about the mobile phone.

    Teacher says: Look! What’s this? (It’s a mobile phone.) Can you imagine what

    life would be like without mobile phones?(...) So, mobile phones affect our everyday life. Our life will be very different with the scientific development. Scientific discoveries are making our lives better and better. Do you agree with me?
