A few minutes later, the bear headed back t ur camp.
Angered by the spray, the bear greeted us with a hwl f rage.
At that very mment, the helicpter arrived.
思考:that very mment是什么时刻?
Suddenly, the bear had trn a narrw pening in the fence which wuld cllapse sn and witness the bear tear us int pieces.
At that very mment, the helicpter arrived.
Hearing the helicpter, we ran back t the camp swiftly, and radied ur savir in a trembling vice.
Grabbing the camera, I dashed ut and snapped valuable pictures f the escaping bear, making the trip unfrgettable fr the whle life.
Madame Frestier had halted.
“Yu say yu bught a diamnd necklace t replace mine?”
“Yes. Yu hadn't nticed it? They were very much alike.”
And she smiled in prud and inncent happiness.
Madame Frestier, deeply mved, tk her tw hands.
“Oh, my pr Mathilde! But mine was imitatin. It was wrth at the very mst five hundred francs!...”
“I have smething t tell yu, white muse,” she said. “Mr. Behrman died f pneumnia tday in the hspital. He was ill nly tw days. The janitr fund him the mrning f the first day in his rm dwnstairs helpless with pain. His shes and clthing were wet thrugh and icy cld. They culdn't imagine where he had been n such a dreadful night. And then they fund a lantern, still lighted, and a ladder that had been dragged frm its place, and sme scattered brushes, and a palette with green and yellw clrs mixed n it, and — lk ut the windw, dear, at the last ivy leaf n the wall. Didn't yu wnder why it never fluttered r mved when the wind blew? Ah, darling, it's Behrman's masterpiece — he painted it there the night that the last leaf fell.”
“That may be a bit flwery, as the sayin' is — but I knw myself he was sittin' ver his bts day and night, t the very last. Yu see I used t watch him. Never gave 'imself time t eat; never had a penny in the huse. All went in rent and leather. Hw he lived s lng I dn't knw. He regular let his fire g ut. He was a character. But he made gd bts.”
“Yes,” I said, “he made gd bts.”
And I turned and went ut quickly, fr I did nt want that yuth t knw that I culd hardly see.
“What a strange thing!” said the verseer f the wrkmen at the fundry. “This brken lead heart will nt melt in the furnace. We must thrw it away.” S they threw it n a dust-heap where the dead Swallw was als lying.
“Bring me the tw mst precius things in the city,” said Gd t ne f His Angels; and the Angel brught Him the leaden heart and the dead bird.
“Yu have rightly chsen,” said Gd, “fr in my garden f Paradise this little bird shall sing fr evermre, and in my city f gld the Happy Prince shall praise me.”
Then the dark did nt matter; she lay still. “Here, rub yur feet against my legs and get them warm,” said father.
Tired ut, he slept befre the little girl. A funny feeling came ver her. Pr father! Nt s big, after all — and with n ne t lk after He was harder than the grandmther, but it was a nice And every day he had t wrk and was t tired t be a Mr. She had trn up all his beautiful She stirred suddenly, and sighed.
“What's the matter?” asked father. “Anther dream?”
“Oh,” said the little girl, “my head's n yur heart; I can hear it ging. What a big heart yu've gt, father dear.”
But nw she was n her way hme and he was as far ff as suddenly turned int the dairy and he saw her thrugh the windw buying an egg. She picked it ut f the basket with such care — a brwn ne, a beautifully shaped ne, the ne he wuld have chsen. And when she came ut f the dairy he went in after her. In a mment he was ut again, and fllwing her past his huse acrss the flwer market, ddging amng the huge umbrellas and treading n the fallen flwers and the rund marks where the pts had her dr he crept, and up the stairs after, taking care t tread in time with her s that she shuld nt ntice. Finally, she stpped n the landing, and tk the key ut f her purse. As she put it int the dr he ran up and faced her.
Blushing mre crimsn than ever, but lking at her severely he said, almst angrily: “Excuse me, Mademiselle, yu drpped this.”
And he handed her an egg.
Suddenly the church clck struck twelve. Then the Angelus. At the same mment the trumpets f the Prussians, returning frm drill, sunded under ur windws. M. Hamel std up, very pale, in his chair. I never saw him lk s tall. “My friends,” said he, “my friends,... I... I...”
But smething chked him; he culd nt finish the sentence. He returned t the blackbard, tk a piece f chalk, and wrte in large letters, “VIVE LA FRANCE.”
Then he std leaning against the wall, unable t speak. He signed t us with his hand. “The lessn is ver. Yu are dismissed.”
“A hrse. It was standing n ynder rck — pretty far ut. Yu see it is n lnger there. It went ver the cliff.”
The man's face was white, but he shwed n ther sign f emtin. Having answered, he turned away his eyes and said n mre. The sergeant did nt understand.
“See here, Druse,” he said, after a mment's silence, “it's n use making a mystery. I rder yu t reprt. Was there anybdy n the hrse?”
“Yes.”
“Well?”
“My father.”
The sergeant rse t his feet and walked away. “Gd Gd!” he said.
