On September 1, 1985, Dr. Rbert Ballard and his crew sptted ne f Titanic's bilers. They erupted with cheers. By the time f the crew's discvery, 73 years had passed since the ship sank. Several missins had set ff t lk fr it, including a 1977 ne led by Ballard.
In the early 1980s, Ballard asked the U. S. Navy t fund the develpment f the Arg, an unmanned camera sled that culd be dragged behind a surface ship at depths f up t 20, 000 feet. While phtgraphing Thresher and Scrpin, Ballard nticed that the current had carried debris （碎片）frm the ships as they fell t the seaflr, treating a lng chain. With this in mind, he decided nt t search fr Titanic's main bdy. Instead, he wuld use Arg t search fr its much larger debris track, which might stretch as far as a mile. Once he fund it, he culd use it t track dwn the ship itself. With the new apprach, after a few days, they discvered the biler. In a new study, Iwa Psychlgist Ed Wasserman gave the pigens cmplex categrizatin tests that high-level thinking wuld nt aid in slving. Wasserman's team designed a difficult test t find ut whether the pigens use declarative r assciative learning. Each test pigen was shwn a stimulus （刺激）and had t decide, by pecking （啄） a buttn n the right r n the left, t which categry that stimulus belnged. What made the test s demanding was that n rules r lgic wuld help finish the task. They have t memrize the individual stimuli r regins frm where the stimuli ccur.
