In March 2005, Benjamin Mee received a letter frm his sister. Inside was a huse-fr-sale advertisement. It was a huse with a z full f animals in its garden.
Earlier that year, Benjamin's father had died and his mther was living alne in a large huse in Lndn, which she was trying t sell. Benjamin, wh was living in France, hped t sell his mther’s huse and buy the z. Then his family culd all live tgether. He knew that his father wuld nt have agreed. But Benjamin was thinking f the future.
Surprisingly, Benjamin’s mther agreed. In 2004 she spent a day at a z helping the z keepers and really enjyed lking after the animals. Benjamin's wife was mre anxius. She was very ill and didn’t want t change her life, but Benjamin made her believe it was a wise chice.
Unluckily, buying the z was quite difficult, but after a year f trying, in Octber 2006, they did it. But shrtly after the family mved there, a jaguar（美洲豹）had run away because a z keeper had frgtten t clse a dr. The family had t repair it befre pening. Then while they were ding the repairs, Benjamin’s wife died.
On 7 July 2007, the z pened. There were plenty f animals, such as tigers, parrts and snakes. Visitrs lved the z, and lved what Benjamin and his family had dne.
In 2008, he wrte a bk called We bught a z, which became very ppular. A Hllywd prducer read the stry and decided t make a film abut it, and in 2012, the film was shwn and the mney Benjamin made frm it helped t keep the z pen.

I guess yu culd say that acting is in my bld as my mther and my father are bth actrs, my grandfather was a theatre musician and my grandmther was a singer and dancer. I suppse it seemed natural fr me t perfrm fr family and friends and I certainly wasn’t shy while grwing up. I actually used t enjy the attentin and I still have many enjyable memries f the whle family singing and dancing tgether.
That’s why it came as n surprise that I started ging t drama schl frm the yung age f six. I attended classes there every Saturday fr almst 10 years. We were taught hw t sing and dance, as well as act, s I was quite gd by my teens.
Once I’d left schl, I went t drama schl in Lndn full-time t d a degree. I must say that at that time, and fr a perid f abut six mnths, I needed a break. Thad spent my whle childhd acting and it felt like I had missed s much fun.
S I started partying with friends, danced the nights away and slept late mst mrnings. It was nly when my teacher tld me that I was n my final warning that I realized it was time t stp. Partying was great but I was abut t lse everything I had wrked s hard fr all these years.
After the shck f that realizatin, I gt my act tgether very quickly, went back t classes and wrkshps and sn after, I ended up graduating with a first. I had always been cnfident abut my acting skills but it was then that I felt truly ready t get myself ut there prfessinally. A few mnths later, The Ryal Shakespeare Cmpany gave me my first real rle and I acted tgether with sme great names in the wrld f the stage. Nw, f curse, I’m better knwn fr my Hllywd rles and peple will prbably be amazed t hear that I started my acting career as a Shakespearean actr. But it’s true; this is hw it all started.
