Dear Alfred,
I want to tell you how important your help is to my life.
Growing up,I had people telling me I was too slow, though, with an IQ of 150 at 17,I'm anything but stupid. The fact was that I was found to have ADHD(注意力缺陷多动障碍).Anxious all the time,I was unable to keep focused for more than an hour at a time.
However, when something did interest me,I could become absorbed. In high school,I became curious about the computer, and built my first website. Moreover,I completed the senior course of Computer Basics, plus five relevant pre-college courses.
While I was exploring my curiosity,my disease got worse.I wanted to go to college after high school, but couldn't.So,I was killing my time at home until June 2012 when I discovered the online computer courses of your training center.
Since then,I have taken courses like Data Science and Advanced Mathematics.Currently,I'm learning your Probability course.I have hundreds of printer paper, covered in self-written notes from your video. This has given me a purpose.
Last year,I spent all my time looking for a job where, without dealing with the public,I could work alone, but still have a team to talk to.Luckily,I discovered the job-Data Analyst-this month and have been going full steam ahead.I want to prove that I can teach myself a respectful profession, without going to college, and be just as good as,if not better than,my competitors.
Thank you. You've given me hope that I can follow my heart. For the first time,I feel good about myself because I'm doing something, not because someone told me I was doing good.I feel whole.
This is why you're saving my life.
Yours,

Bob Kingsley, a celebrated voice in country radio that impacted airwaves for 60 years, died Thursday, October, 2019 at his home in Weatherford, Texas, after a battle with cancer. He was 80 years old.
Kingsley began his widespread influence on country radio in 1978 as the host of popular syndicated program "American Country Countdown." He maintained the role in 2006, helping shape a generation of country music listeners.
"I listened to Kingsley every Sunday," Kenny Chesney told the Tennessean, "as a child and as a college kid driving from Knoxville to Johnson City. I had heroes in country music and Bob Kingsley brought those heroes closer to me. He made them real, made them human. He was a friend," Chesney continued. "Not just an associate within the business, but a true friend. He was also a true friend of the genre (类型) of country music and it will never be the same without his voice. I am going to miss him."
Kingsley joined the Air Force at age 18, cutting his teeth as an on-air personality on Armed Forces Radio before working at stations in Texas and Los Angeles. As host of "American Country Countdown," Kingsley expanded the show from a weekly countdown to also include holiday specials and album release programs with artists such as Chesney, George Jones, Alabama and Taylor Swift.
He launched "Bob Kingsley's Country Top 40" in 2006 alongside business partner and wife of 30 years, Nan Kingsley. The show runs today on an estimated 320 stations, a news release said. Kingsley entered the Country Radio Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 1998 and National Radio Hall of Fame in 2016. Presented each year since 2014, this honor benefits the Opry Trust Fund.

Technological change is everywhere and affects every aspect of life, mostly for the better. However, social changes that are brought about by new technology are often mistaken for a change in attitudes.
An example at hand is the involvement of parents in the lives of their children who are attending college.Surveys(调查) on this topic suggests that parents today continue to be "very" or "somewhat" overly-protective even after their children move into college dormitories. The same surveys also indicate that the rate of parental involvement is greater today than it was a generation ago. This is usually interpreted as a sign that today's parents are trying to manage their children's lives past the point where this behavior is appropriate.
However, greater parental involvement does not necessarily indicate that parents are failing to let go of their "adult" children.
In the context(背景)of this discussion,it seems valuable to first find out the cause of change in the case of parents' involvement with their grown children. If parents of earlier generations had wanted to be in touch with their college-age children frequently, would this have been possible?Probably not.On the other hand, does the possibility of frequent communication today mean that the urge to do so wasn't present a generation ago? Many studies show that older parents-today's grandparents-would have called their children more often if the means and cost of doing so had not been a barrier.
Furthermore, studies show that finances are the most frequent subject of communication between parents and their college children. The fact that college students are financially dependent on their parents is nothing new;nor are requests for more money to be sent from home. This phenomenon is neither good nor bad;it is a fact of college life, today and in the past.
Thanks to the advanced technology,we live in an age of bettered communication. This has many implications well beyond the role that parents seem to play in the lives of their children who have left for college. But it is useful to bear in mind that all such changes come from the technology and not some imagined desire by parents to keep their children under their wings.
8. The surveys inform us of ______ .
A. the development of technology
B. the changes of adult children's behavior
C. the parents' over-protection of their college children
D. the means and expenses of students' communication
9. The writer believes that ______ .
A. parents today are more protective than those in the past
B. the disadvantages of new technology outweigh its advantages
C. technology explains greater parental involvement with their children
D. parents' changed attitudes lead to college children's delayed independence
10. What is the best title for the passage? ______
A. Technology or Attitude
B. Dependence or Independence
C. Family Influence or Social Changes
D. College Management or Communication Advancement
11. Which of the following shows the development of ideas in this passage? ______
A. B. C. D.
D
One of the biggest concerns in science is that scientists themselves may influence the outcomes of experiments.Scientists have come up with all sorts of strategies to try to get rid of this problem.
But gathering the data and running an experiment is not the only part of the process that can go wrong. The methods chosen to analyse the data can also influence results. This point was dramatically demonstrated by two recent papers published in a journal called Surgery.Despite being based on the same data set, they drew opposite conclusions about whether using a particular piece of kit during appendix (阑尾) removal surgery reduced or increased the chances of infection.
A new paper, from a large team of researchers headed by Martin Schweinsberg,a psychologist at the European School of Management and Technology,in Berlin, helps cast some light on why.Dr Schweinsberg gathered 49 different researchers by advertising his project on social media. Each was handed a copy of a data set consisting of 3.9 m words of text from nearly 8,000 comments made on Edge.org,an online forum (论坛) for chatty intellectuals.
In the end,37 analyses were regarded sufficiently detailed to include. As it turned out,no two analysts employed exactly the same method, and none got the same result. The problem was not that any of the analyses were "wrong" in any objective sense. The differences arose because researchers chose different definitions of what they were studying, and applied different techniques.
Truth,in other words, can be ,even for simple-sounding questions. What to do?One conclusion is that experimental design is critically important.Dr Schweinsberg hopes that platforms such as Data Explained can help solve the problem as well as revealing it,by allowing scientists to specify exactly how they chose to perform their analysis, allowing those decisions to be reviewed by others. It is probably not practical,he admits,to check and re-check every result. But if many different analytical approaches point in the same direction, then scientists can be confident that their conclusion is the right one.
12. Why did the researchers get different results according to paragraph 2? ______
A. Different methods were applied in the data analysis.
B. Some experimental techniques were unreliable.
C. Some analyses were conducted in a new way.
D. Different data were adopted randomly and indirectly.
13. Which is TRUE according to paragraphs 3 and 4? ______
A. 49 researchers were gathered to discuss an issue.
B. 37 analyses were thought to employ the same method.
C. 2 analyses were considered not good enough.
D. 37 researchers got different results.
14. What does the underlined part "a slippery customer" refer to? ______
A. A person who is extremely critical.
B. Someone who can't be trusted.
C. A person who is willing to speak frankly.
D. Someone who can raise questions skillfully.
15. What can be inferred from the whole passage? ______
A. Different results come from the same experimental design.
B. The more data are collected, the more truthful the results will be.
C. Data don't lie,but they can lead scientists to opposite conclusions.
D. The outcomes of the experiments come from the cooperation of the scientists.

1. 根据第一段died Thursday, October,2019 at his home in Weatherford, Texas, after a battle with cancer. He was 80 years old.(2019年10月星期四,他在与癌症斗争后,在德克萨斯州威德福的家中去世。 Kingsley joined the Air Force at age 18(金斯利18岁加入了空军)可知,金斯利是1957年加入空军的。故选A。
2.
He made them real, made them human.(他把他们变成了真实的人)可知,肯尼•切斯尼说“他让英雄变得真实,让英雄变得人性”是因为金斯利使英雄们更加生动。故选C。
3.
Kingsley joined the Air Force at age 18, cutting his teeth as an on-air personality on Armed Forces Radio before working at stations in Texas and Los Angeles.(金斯利18岁加入空军,在德克萨斯州和洛杉矶的电台工作之前,他初出茅庐,担任了武装部队电台的播音员)可推测,他加入空军时年纪还小,初出茅庐,所以cutting his teeth指的是“初次获得经验”。故选B。
4.
Kingsley's legacy extends to the Grand Ole Opry, where he's the namesake and first recipient of the Bob Kingsley Living Legend Award.(金斯利的遗产延伸到大奥普里剧院,在那里他是同名的,也是鲍勃·金斯利生活传奇奖的第一位获奖者)可知,鲍勃•金斯利传奇奖是以鲍勃•金斯利的名义。故选B。
8~11.【答案】C、B、A、D
根据第二段中的"suggests that parents today continue to be "very" or "somewhat"overly-protective even after their children move into college dormitories."(这表明,即使在孩子搬进大学宿舍后,如今的父母仍然"非常"或"有点"过度保护孩子。)
But it is useful to bear in mind that all such changes come fromthe technology and not some imagined desire by parents to keep their children under their wings."(但要记住,所有这些变化都来自于科技,而不是家长们想象中的那种想让孩子长在翅膀下的愿望。)
(3)A. However,social changes brought about by new technology are often mistaken for a change in attitudes."(然而,新技术带来的社会变化往往被误认为是态度的改变。)
12~15.【答案】A、D、B、C
But gathering the data and running an experiment is not the only part of the process that can go wrong. The methods chosen to analyse the data can also influence results. 故选A。
Truth,in other words,can be ,even for simple-sounding questions. Someone who can't be trusted (一个不能被信任的人)"符合题意。故选B。
(4)推理判断题。通读全文,特别是根据第二段的第一句话But gathering the data and running an experiment is not the only part of the process that can go wrong. The methods chosen to analyse the data can also influence results.
