What is the future of AI(人工智能)? Will it be a good thing? We asked four students what they think.
Tina:I believe AI will be more useful in our future lives. It’s now used in many fields, like phones and medicine. No one really knows what will happen if machines become smarter than humans. However, I’m sure AI will help us solve many problems.
Bill:I am worried that people create something that can be better than themselves. In the near future, AI will develop at a high speed. Humans may be replaced because AI robots will do lots of human jobs.
Mary:I really think that AI will change the way we work, the way we live. And the way we think. Imagine if we could put a CPU inside our brain! Soon we’ll be able to improve our math and memory. How exciting!
John:Think of what’s happening right now. Some robots are used to kill animals under human orders. The media often gives the impression that human-level AI of the sort we see in sci-fi movies is just around the corner, uncomfortably close. I think the killing-decision thing should not be given to the machine. Otherwise, Al will be very dangerous for humans. We need to be careful about what we ask machines to do.
16. Who believes AI will help us solve many problems?
A. Tina. B. Bill. C. Mary. D. John.
17. Bill thinks humans will be replaced because______.
A. we can’t improve our memory B. AI robots will do human jobs

When I was young, after church on Sundays, we would always have a delicious Italian dinner at my grandmother’s house. My grandmother’s slow-cooked sauce(酱) was the key. We would all eat, talk and laugh until our stomachs were full. After mum and grandfather passed away, my dad would still make the sauce from time to time and invite me and my brother over to his little house for a dinner full of fine food and happy memories.
When my dad died, he passed the family recipe(食谱) on to me and my daughter. We often made the sauce for dinner, but for some reason it never tasted quite right. At first, I thought we had gotten the recipe wrong, but one day I realized what was missing. On that day right before dinner, I closed my eyes and imagined my dad, mum and grandmother all sitting at the table around me. Then I placed the pasta on my fork and slowly put it in my mouth. It tasted perfect. From that moment, I realized the secret was, of course, what it had always been: Love!

When the bell rings, every student takes out an iPad. The light from the screens makes their young faces pretty and lively. That’s what happens every day at my school in the US. We use iPads in class.
I felt surprised and excited when I got an iPad the first day I arrived at the school. But it was not free. I spent about $100 to rent (租) it for three years.
Every iPad at my school has a special learning system (系统) called Focus. Teachers put their teaching materials like textbooks and PPTs on it. When we have classes, we enter the system and download (下载) the materials with our iPads.
It makes the classes interesting and efficient (高效的). For example, a few weeks ago, we learned about London in the UK. Our teacher prepared a video in which we saw many places of interest in London. We could not only watch the video, but also see the words at the same time. Because of the video, I know more about the city.
We also do our homework with iPads. We can know how well we do our homework right after we submit (提交) our homework.
However, there are still some bad points about learning with iPads. Some of my classmates play games or surf the Internet in class.
I believe the key to use iPads well is to have good self-control (自制), isn’t it?
23. In the writer’s class, every student ______.
A. gets a free iPad from the teacher B. plays games on iPads in each class
C. shares an iPad with their classmates in class D. rents an iPad to use at school for three years

A. students don’t like to use iPads in class B. iPads are not useful when having classes
C. students use iPads to watch videos every class D. iPads make the classes interesting and efficient
26. What does the writer think of using iPads in school?
A. Students should use iPads as often as possible. B. To use iPads in school is very bad for students’ eyes.
C. Students should have good self-control when using iPads.
D. All students should use iPads to surf the Internet in class.

There were many sick monkeys, and Dr. Dolittle was very busy curing them.
He separated the sick monkeys from the well ones. He gave shots to all the monkeys that were well so that they wouldn’t get sick. Then he asked them to build a house and make beds for all the sick monkeys. He put all the sick monkeys in this house.
“I need more nurses, ”he said. “Ask other animals in the jungle to come and help.” At first, the other animals did not want to help. The King of the Lions said with a roar, “I’m not going to nurse monkeys.” The doctor tried hard not to seem afraid of him. He said,“ One day you may be ill. Then you will want someone, even a monkey, to nurse you.” The King of the Lions just roared again and went away. That night, one of his children felt sick.“ He won’t eat,” the Queen Lioness said to the King of the lions.“ You must do something.”“ There’s nothing I can do, ”the King of the Lions said.“ A lot of monkeys are sick, too. Do you know, there’s a man who asked me to nurse them. He’s some kind of doctor. Huh! I told him that lions didn’t nurse other animals.”
The Queen Lioness was very angry.“ That was a stupid thing to say,” she said. "Go back to him, and ask him to come and cure our baby. Tell him you’ll help nurse the monkeys. And take some other animals with you.”
He did as he was told. Many of the animals helped to nurse the sick monkeys, and they were soon well.
The doctor was very tired now and needed to rest.
27. Why did Dr Dolittle give the healthy monkeys a shot?
A. Because he did not want them to get sick
B. Because he did not want them to find the sick monkeys
C. Because he did not want them to help.
D. Because he did not want them to find the lion

A. Because he did not want to be a monkey. B. Because he did not want to nurse a monkey.
C. Because he did not want to see a lion. D. Because his son was sick
29. Why did the King of the Lions finally help Dr Dolittle?
A. Because his son was sick, and his wife left the house
B. Because his son was sick, and his wife died
C. Because his son was sick, and his wife told him to help
D. Because his son was sick, and his sister told him to help
30. What happened at last?
A. The monkeys ran away. B. The monkeys died C. The monkeys were cured D. The lion died

下面文章中有五处需要添加一个问题。请从以下选项(A、B、C、D、E和F)中选出符合各段的提问。选项中有一项是多余选项。
Computers can help us in many ways, but they cannot think or do things on their own. 31 They cannot come up with any new information, but they can save much time and work. For example, all the information and office files can be stored in a computer’s “memory”.
The first computers were huge and expensive. They filled up almost the whole floor of large offices. Later, scientists found ways to produce cheaper and smaller computers. 32
33 They can just be placed on top of an ordinary writing table. They can even be carried from place to place easily. Computers are not only used in offices by companies, but are used at homes by families who can afford them.
34 A robot can do the same work as a person for 24 hours without complaining or getting tired.
35 As computers become more and more common in businesses and factories, people fear that one day computers and computer-controlled robots will put human workers out of work.
A. Today, computers are not only cheaper, but also more compact(袖珍的).
B. Humans have to feed them with information and tell them what to do.
C. In Japan and some places in America, robots are used in factories to assemble(装配)cars.
D. Robots are only moving parts controlled by computers.
E. They invented chips(芯片)which made it possible to store more information in less space.
F. Robots can help people do many different things.

“Please take my penny,” said Maggie to old Dan, the fisherman, who sat on a bench repairing his nets. The old Dan smiled, and took it. “Thank you, little miss,” he said.
