She had good grades and considered herself college bound. But life has a tendency to throw obstacles in the way. When her father died tragically in a car accident, leaving her mother to support three daughters on a modest income, paying for college became out of the question.Around that time, Steph tried to figure out what to do with a life that had differed so much from the plan she’d carefully laid out. The answer came one afternoon when she was cleaning her bedroom closet and found a list from the English teacher she’d had in her junior year, Dorothy Clark. One afternoon, Mrs. Clark walked into the classroom carrying a stack of papers. She instructed each students to take one. The handout was titled Mrs. Clark’s Book List. “It wasn’t homework,” the teacher announced, “but it could be a road map. Some of you might not go on to higher education, but you can continue to learn.” It would, she believed, form the equivalent of two years at a liberal arts college.“She knew the income levels of the kids in my high school” says Steph. “Working-class and logging families. She knew most of us would not go to college. She was right. But she knew we could continue to learn after high school. She was also right about that.” Steph studied the list. Each of those books sparked her passion to learn more about the person, subject matter, or time in history. That made her look for other books that weren’t on the list, hoping to deepen her knowledge. Over the years, the reading list was a constant in her life, traveling with her even on vacations. Now Steph is 70 and she never did get to college. But she has only four books left to read from the list. She expects to complete them sometime in 2023. “Each of the books has added something to who I am and how I see the world.” she says, “I now have gained an insight to see why things happened and what it might mean.”24. What prevented Steph going to college?A. Her bad grades.B. Her low income.C. The lack of financial support.D. Her tragic accident.25. Why did Mr. Clark create the book list?A. To prepare students for college.B. To share her books with students.C. To serve as a reading task for students.D. To inspire students to continue learning.26. How does Steph feel about the book list now?A. Regretful.B. Satisfied.C. Moved.D. Determined.27. What is the text mainly about?A. An influential reading list.B. An excellent reading habit. C. An impressive English teacher.D. A memorable experience in high school.CHousing officials say that lately they are noticing something different: students seem to lack the will and the skill, to address ordinary conflicts. “We have students who are mad at each other and they text each other in the same room,” says a teacher. “So many of our roommate conflicts are because kids don’t know how to negotiate a problem.”And as any pop psychologist will tell you, bottled emotions lead to silent discontent that can boil over into frustration and anger. “At the University of Florida, emotional outbursts occur about once a week,” the university’s director of housing and residence education says. “It used to be: ‘Let’s sit down and talk about it.’” he says. “Over the past five years, roommate conflicts have increased. The students don’t have the person-to-person discussions and they don’t know how to handle them.” The problem is most dramatic among freshmen; housing professionals say they see improvement as students move toward graduation, but some never seem to catch on, and they worry about how such students will deal with conflicts after college.Administrators speculate that reliance on cell phones and the Internet may have made it easier for young people to avoid uncomfortable encounters. Why express anger in person when you can vent in a text? “Things are posted on someone’s wall on Facebook: Oh, my roommate kept me up all night studying,” says Dana Pysz, an assistant director in the office of residential life at the University of California, Los Angeles. “It’s a different way to express their conflict to each other, consequently creating even more frictions as complaints go public.” In recent focus groups at North Carolina State University, dorm residents said they would not even confront noisy neighbors on their floor.Administrators point to parents who have fixed their children’s problems in their entire lives. Now in college, the children lack the skills to attend to even modest conflicts. Some parents continue to interfere on campus.28.What is the main reason for many roommate conflicts?A.Students are not strong-willed.B.Students are not satisfied with each other.C.Students are not good at reaching an agreement about the problems.D.Housing directors are not responsible for many roommate conflicts.29.What do we learn from the second paragraph?A.Over the past five years, roommate conflicts have decreased.B.Some students are not able to handle conflicts by the time they graduate.C.Students in Florida sit down and have a person-to-person talk once a week. D.The number of conflicts among roommates has decreased during the past five years. 30.What is the attitude of Dana Pysz when he mentions roommates disclosing their conflicts in the media?A.Indifference. B.Disapproval. C.Eagerness. D.Empathy.31.What should parents do according to the passage?A.They should be involved in their children’s life on campus.B.They should constantly contact the administrators of the college. C.They should teach their children the skills to tackle the conflicts.D.They should deal with their children’s problems in their whole lives.DWe’ve all faced it at one time or another: after laundry, a messy pile of clean clothes are waiting hours to be put away. There are plenty of machines that can wash and dry clothes. So why isn’t there a way to similarly automate the terrible folding process?Researchers have looked into it over the years and as it turns out, robots just don’t do well in folding clothes. As is reported, machines need clear rules in order to function, and it’s hard for them to figure out what exactly is going on in those messy piles-say, where the sweater stops and where the towel begins. In sum, most robots have not generally been equipped for the task. But an international group of researchers say their new method could change that, or at least speed up the process. Researchers are calling the new method SpeedFolding. It’s a “reliable and efficient bimanual system”—meaning it involves two hands—that’s able to smooth and fold clothes in record speed for robots. SpeedFolding can fold 30 to 40 pieces of clothing per hour, compared to previous models that averaged 3 to 6 pieces in that same time length, according to researchers. SpeedFolding takes a different approach. Its novel network studied 4,300 human and machine-assisted actions in order to learn how to smooth and fold clothes from a random pattern. That process can involve a number of defined movements including dragging, moving and “pick-and-place”. While researchers describe SpeedFolding as a significant improvement, it’s not likely to hit the market anytime soon. For one, researchers tracked down a robot similar to the one they used and found that it sold for $58,000. For another, researchers say there’s more they want to explore, including methods with which the robot can learn to work on a novel piece of clothing when given a few demonstrations. But there’s always hope that folding in the future will get even neater.32.Why are robots poor at folding clothes?A.They are lacking in enough folding demonstrations. B.It is difficult for them to obey clear human orders.C.They have trouble handling the random patterns of clothes.D.It is difficult for them to remember the folding movements.33.What do we know about SpeedFolding?A.It can record the working speed accurately. B.It can help with all sorts of housework.C.It can perform more delicate actions.D.It can fold 3 to 6 pieces per hour on average.34.What does the author think of SpeedFolding?A.It has a promising future. B.It is no better than the old.C.It is highly profitable. D.It will go out of style quickly.35.What can be a suitable title for the text?A.Robots Become More IntelligentB.The Research on the Folding Robot is On C.Robots Release People from HouseworkD.The Fastest Ever Folding Robot is Here第二节(共5小题; 每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。Einstein’s Opinions on Creative Thinking“The greatest scientists are artists as well,” said Albert Einstein, one of the greatest physicists and an amateur pianist and violinist. C.But how did art differ from science for Einstein?D.That’s why he said that great scientists were also artists.E.There is no doubt that my theory was a great breakthrough then.F.Einstein also owed his scientific insight and intuition mainly to music. One day while she was driving home from the café, a dirty puppy in the road caught Helen’s attention. After consideration, Helen and her husband eventually decided to take him home. And they later named him Ollie. Two years later, Ollie had grown into a large ball of fur. Ollie was Helen’s world, and she hated it whenever someone addressed him as her rescue dog. Helen never went out without Ollie. One day, they were hanging out together outside a supermarket, unprepared for what was coming their way.“Hey boy, wait in the car. I’ll be back, alright?” Helen said as she patted Ollie on his head. She locked him in the car and headed to the supermarket because Ollie hated crowded places and never accompanied Helen to the stores.Moments later, there was a sudden outburst of chaos. Helen was busy shopping and had no idea it was raining heavily outside. The whole area began to flood unexpectedly. People rushed to every open store they could find for shelter.12-year-old boy Matt was looking for a place to run to safety when he spotted people running to the supermarket nearby. He had no time to think and ran after them.Matt hurried upstairs with the rest. Suddenly, Helen noticed the situation and was alarmed. “What happened?” she asked a man and screamed at the top of her lungs when she learned of the flood. All she could think of was Ollie trapped in the car.“OLLIE..., I left my dog in the car,” she cried, running toward the window. “My dog is trapped in the car. Somebody, please...”Matt looked outside and saw the car Helen pointed to was in the flash flood. Helen was frightened to go out because she didn’t know how to swim. Matt understood Helen’s anxiety and ran to her pet’s rescue. He grabbed an iron rod from the corner and raced downstairs. “Hey kid, where are you going? You will drown,” someone shouted. But Matt turned a deaf ear to him because he was determined to save Ollie. In the meanwhile, some people placed a call to the rescue center.注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。He braved the currents and swam to the car._____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Minutes later, a rescue team arrived._____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Therefore, I am appealing to us students to live an active and healthy life. For one thing, it’s of vital importance to sleep as early as possible, which can make you energetic the whole day. Staying up late frequently makes it hard for you to focus on your class. For another, we are supposed to attach great importance to workout, which not only helps build up our body but also help us better adapt to the burden of study. Given all the above benefits, all of you are highly recommended to plan your study time properly and taking exercise regularly. Students’ Union续写:He braved the currents and swam to the car. Through the window, he saw a frightened dog staring at him with big eyes. Matt broke the window with the rod and grabbed Ollie. “Come here, boy...” he said. To his surprise, Ollie wagged his tail and obeyed. The dog was eventually pulled out, safe and sound. Matt then put the dog on the car’s roof and climbed up and sat with Ollie, patting him gently so that he would stay calm and not get scared looking at the flood below.Minutes later, a rescue team arrived. Thankfully, it had stopped raining by then, making their task easier. The rescue team helped Matt and Ollie to safety. Helen tearfully hugged and kissed her dog. Helen turned around to Matt and started crying even more. “I don’t know how to thank you. You saved my baby’s life today.” Matt smiled at her and said, “I had a dog two years ago. I just understand your affection for him,” Helen thanked Matt again and offered to send him home. 听力原文:Text 1M:Shall we go to watch a movie this evening?W:I can’t agree more. You will be impressed by its architecture. We’ll live and learn together in Milan University. Our trip to Canada lasts for ten days. It costs $1,000. And the one to Italy lasts for a week. It costs $800. We offer a fun and relaxing atmosphere for children to learn English. No one would ever learn a language without making mistakes. At our camps, we don’t ask the children to speak English perfectly. We only ask them to do the best. Join our twenty-day camps for the summer of your life.Dear fellow students, On behalf of the Students’ Union, I’m writing to make a proposal with the theme that we should do our part to protect the environment. Taking the increasingly serious environmental problems into consideration, we should start with the small things. To begin with, save natural resources in our daily life before it is too late. Then, it is particularly important to arouse people’s awareness of environmental protection. Therefore, we must call on people around us to devote themselves to building a shared green home. Work together, and there will be a beautiful green home. Just take action now
