The year I entered my teens, I expressed to my parents my wish to play the piano. Thinking the Piano accordion (键盘式手风琴) a reasonable instrument, my parents asked me to attend lessons offered on weekends. After several weeks, my instructor told Mom that I had talent and could be a musician. As a result, for Christmas I received a full-sized Mundinger accordion.
Then, in 1983, I decided to return to full-time studies. Needing money to support my education, I placed an ad and found a buyer for my accordion. Over the years, I felt a feeling of shame sometimes about that Mundinger my father had paid for by working so hard as a miner. I would recall how much happiness my practicing and playing had given him.
By 2013, Dad was in a nursing home. In those situations when an accordion player would be brought in to cheer up the people there, I would see his eyes light up. I began to consider the possibility of being able to bring that happiness to him myself whenever I visited, and I asked my son, Sam, to find me a small accordion. Weeks later, I took the bus to Thompson Pawnbroker where Sam told me to check out their accordions.
When I noted that there were only two full-sized accordions, I asked to check out more in the back of the store, explaining that I wanted something smaller. It was when the clerk placed the instrument on the counter that I realized that the accordion I was looking at was not like the instrument I used to have, it was the instrument I used to have!
Before Dad passed away the following month, I brought the instrument to the nursing home. Before I told Dad how I had come to own it once again, I asked: “Do you know what that is, Papa?” Although he had dementia (痴), he answered, “Of course, Lenny! It’s your accordion.”
    4. The author sold his accordion because _________.
    A. he was in need of money B. he had no talent for music
    C. he had to focus on his studies D. he found little time to practice
    5. why was the author looking for a small accordion?
    A. To be a player again. B. To make his son happy.
    C. To find his old accordion D. To see his father’s smile.
    6. Which accordion did the author bring home finally?
    A. An accordion similar to his old one. B. One of the two full-sized accordions.
    C. A smaller accordion than he expected. D. The accordion he used to own.
    7. What happened when the author showed his father the accordion?
    A. His father was too excited to say a word. B. His father showed little interest.
    C. His father still remembered it. D. His father asked for it as a gift.
A 5. D 6. D 7. C

根据文章第二段“Then, in 1983,1 decided to return to full-time studies. Needing money to support my education, I placed an ad and found a buyer for my accordion. (然后,在1983年,我决定重返全日制学习。我需要钱来支持我的教育,我登了一个广告,为我的手风琴找到了一个买家。)”可知作者卖他的手风琴是因为他需要钱来支持他的教育,即他缺钱;故选A项。

    【6题详解】

It’s your accordion.”

Los Angeles is a huge city with people from many different walks of life. But we are going to focus on the dream-like part of Los Angeles.
Los Angeles—or simply “LA” for short—can be an unreal place, a place like no other. For some it is a city where big dreams come true, but for others it is where their dreams perish in cloud of smog.
LA is home to the US motion picture and television industries. Some Americans like to call it The Entertainment Capital of the World.
The LA neighbourhood best known for films and movie stars is Hollywood. Millions of people visit Hollywood each year. No trip to Los Angeles is complete without seeing the word “Hollywood” spelt out in huge letters on a hillside.
And many actors dream of having their names added to the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Amy Adams attended a ceremony honouring her with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Jan 11, 2017, in Los Angeles. This brings a nickname for Los Angeles, one that is also commonly-used as an expression: la-la land.
La-la land can be any place that is fun, far from serious, and out of touch with reality. You can use the expression when talking about the mental state of someone who does not understand what is really happening. You might say that person is “in la-la land”.
“La La Land” is also the name of a 2016 movie. It tells the story of a man who wants to be a musician and a woman who wants to be an actress. They meet and fall in love in Los Angeles. The name of the movie suggests both the city’s nickname and the state of being out of touch with reality. You can make the “big time” or make it big in any industry, not just in the movies.
    8. What does the underlined word “perish” in Paragraph 2 mean?
    A. Die away. B. Come true.
    C. Build up. D. Become bigger.
    9. What do many actors dream of?
    A. Making lots of money.
    B. Visiting Hollywood each year.
    C. Seeing the “Hollywood” spelt out on a hillside.
    D. Adding their names to the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
    10. If a person is in la-la land, he is probably _______.
    A. funny B. confused
    C. serious D. happy
    11. What is the best title for the passage?
    A. Big Dreams Come True B. Film Industry
    C. Welcome to La La Land D. A Successful Place
A 9. D 10. B 11. C

根据第六段“You can use the expression when talking about the mental state of someone who does not understand what is really happening.”(你可以用这个表达来谈论一个不知道正在发生什么的人的精神状态。)
根据第一段“Los Angeles is a huge city with people from many different walks of life.”(美国城市洛杉矶是一个巨大的城市,有来自各行各业的人)以及作者还介绍了与洛杉矶相关的表达La-la land。

Research by the Policy Institute at King’s. College London and Ipsos MORI showed that around 54% of British people will miss some parts of lockdown (封城), including family time. 19% of the 2,442 adults said the last year had been better than they expected it to be when the first lockdown started. The research also found that 32% of people felt the past year had been similar to or better than usual for them personally. People have enjoyed being closer to their family, friends, and neighbours throughout to pandemic (流行病), with 28% feeling closer to their family, 19% to their neighbours, and 31% to their friends.
Professor Bobby Duffy, director of the Policy Institute at King’s College London, said: “There is no doubt that the public would rather the pandemic hadn’t happened at all — but that doesn’t mean it’s been all bad for everyone, or that people see it de influencing their future. What’s surprising about the findings is that for a group of people the last year turned out better than expected, or even better than a normal year.”
He added “Of course, many have been badly influenced. The findings draw attention to a key area of the pandemic, that while action to control the pandemic has been taken, its influence depends hugely on your own circumstances.”
Almost half of the public felt the last year had been worse than expected and 43% expected its mental health because of the pandemic.
The research found that some people plan to continue with some habits they formed in lockdown, with saying they will shop locally more and 38% saying they plan to walk more post-pandemic. Gideon Skinner, research director at Ipsos MORI, said British people expect the pandemic will lead to long-term changes but bold different opinions on what the changes could be.
    12. What did the research mainly find?
    A. About half of British people would like to keep some parts of lockdown life.
    B. Most British people thought they were disconnected from their friends.
    C. Life during lockdown was better than British people’s normal life.
    D. Lockdown was much worse than British people had thought.
    13. What does the underlined word “that” in paragraph 2 refer to?
    A. The pandemic deeply influenced people’s future.
    B. The public would miss some parts of lockdown.
    C. The public would prefer there had been no pandemic.
    D. The pandemic seemed to be out of control last year.
    14. What can we infer from Gideon Skinner’s opinion in the last paragraph?
    A. The changes brought by the pandemic are still unclear.
    B. People will pay more attention to their family life.
    C. The pandemic is helping people form good habits.
    D. People are losing their confidence in the future.
    15. What does the author want to share in this text?
    A. Ways to spend time during lockdown.
    B. Bad influences of the pandemic on people’s life.
    C. People’s social relationships during the pandemic.
    D. A research result on people’s life during lockdown.

[高分句型2] The ceremony is called Zhuazhou that is designed to celebrate the first birthday of a baby.
It was a lovely spring morning in the mountains of my home. Here was full of natural atmosphere. The sky was blue, the sun was warm, and the air was fresh. As driving along the winding road, I could see thousands of wild flowers in bloom. When I turned round, I slowed down as I saw some volunteers picking up garbage along the side of the road. I just smiled as I saw them doing some cleaning in spring for Mother Earth and my mind suddenly floated back in time to another spring morning long ago.
When my children were younger, I used to walk along a small route around the lake near my home. It was also on a spring morning that I noticed much garbage lying along the route. The next day, I brought a big garbage bag and started to slowly pick up the garbage along my way. All kinds of deserted objects lay all over the floor. There were pop cans, plastic water bottles, wrappers for candy bars, empty chip bags, pieces of broken fishing line and even an old shoe. Every time I stopped, I picked up a piece of garbage. And I even fished some garbage out of the edge of the water. By the time I circled the lake, the garbage bag had been nearly full.
Tired but happy, I put the bag in an empty garbage can. I stopped before I headed home and took one last look at the lake as the sun set. It looked more beautiful than ever and I felt like the angels were looking down upon it with me and sharing my smiles.
I always think that at times this world’s problems can seem overwhelming and you may wonder what you can do to make a difference. But the truth is that every good thing you do matters a lot! I do believe every time I stop to pick up a single piece of garbage, I can make a difference. As my children are adults now, I decide to spend more time protecting the environment.
    注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
    2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I begin to encourage others to develop the environmental awareness.
    _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Many days have passed, and the surroundings have improved a lot.
    ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I begin to encourage others to develop the environmental awareness. I know that there is power in numbers, and I want to get as many people involved as possible. I’ve convinced my children to take action with me like I did before. We learn to make many cards to hand out to people, with some words about environment protection written on them. We’ve also set up signs around the lake to remind people to pay attention to the environment. Other members of my family also go to the lake to pick up garbage on weekends.
Many days have passed, and the surroundings have improved a lot. Thanks to our efforts, the lake has taken on a new look. The surroundings are clearer and there is no more garbage floating on its water. There is little garbage on either side of the road along the lake. It is surprising that many people take their garbage away. Few people drop garbage here. I am pleased to note that more people actively volunteer to pick up the garbage. This gives us more confidence to protect our nearby environment.
