An 11-year-old boy has become a hero since his quick thinking saved two lives. Davyon Johnson helped save a choking classmate and a woman attempting to escape a fire. On Dec. 8, 2021 the Muskogee County Sheriff’s Department honored Johnson for his heroics at a meeting. At the event, Undersheriff Greg Martin gave the sixth-grader a certificate naming him an honorary deputy for the Muskogee County Sheriff’s Office. “We are all so proud of you, Johnson!!” wrote the sheriff’s office in a post on Facebook on Dec. 14, 2021.
The Muskogee Public Schools recognized Davyon Johnson during the meeting Tuesday. Principal Latricia Dawkins considered Johnson a hero in an interview. “He always says that he wants to be an emergency medical technician. So he put that desire into action and immediately saved that young man,” Dawkins said, adding “Johnson is just a kind soul and liked by students and teachers.”

Johnson immediately ran to the child and performed the Heimlich maneuver. Dawkins said, “From the account of the witnesses, when he did it, the bottle cap came out.” Johnson said he learned how to do the Heimlich maneuver on YouTube, and suggested others do the same.
Johnson’s heroism didn’t end there. After school, during the day after he saved his classmate, Johnson spotted a woman attempting to escape from a burning home. He quickly realized the worried woman was moving slowly and ran across the street to help her. “She was a disabled lady and being a good citizen, I should help her leave,” Johnson said.

Scott Edwards paused his cross-country bike trip when he saw a flash of black, white and red. It was a red-headed woodpecker (啄木鸟). He saw their black and white wings while riding. He was phoning to his friend from his tent in Illinois later that night. “I got my first good look today. I hadn’t seen the red head until that day, so was very exited,” he said.
Edwards is a bird researcher at Harvard University in Cambridge, Mass. Over this past summer, he rode across the United States. In some degree, he did git to see the country. But he also used the trip to do some serious bird-watching, which is something he’s been doing for more than 40 years.
When he was growing up in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx in New York City, there were lots of trees. When he was 9 or 10, a neighbor took him bird-watching. Edwards has been doing it ever since. But finding those birds is getting more difficult. “The number of birds is dying down,” he says. And Edwards is hardly the only one to notice it, Scientists around the world have been finding the same thing. A 2018 study by Bird Life International concluded that birds around the world are in trouble. There are about 1,000 species of birds. Four in every 10 species of them are decreasing in number, the study found. That’s true for all kinds of birds living in all types of habitats.
Some birds, such as the red-cockaded woodpecker and California condor, are specially endangered. Only a few members of these species remain in the wild. Others are often seen at backyard gardens. But even common birds are less common than they were just 50 years ago. And that’s now true almost everywhere.

C. Humans should set up a large habitat for birds.
D. Humans should know more about birds’ habitats.

He rode along until a strange sound drew him to the present. He came to a stop and looked curiously up to the sky. What he saw shocked and terrified him. A huge swarm (一大群) of bees filled the sky like a black cloud and they seemed to be heading angrily towards him.
With no time to waste, Andy sped off in the opposite direction, riding with great speed but without knowing how to escape the swarm. With a rapidly beating heart, he sped down the rough road. As the bees came closer, his panic increased. Andy knew that he was sensitive to bee stings (蜇). The last sting had landed him in hospital and that was only one bee sting! He had been forced to lie in bed for two whole days. Suddenly, his father’s words came to him. “When you are in a tight situation, don’t panic. Use your brain and think your way out of it.”
On a nearby hill, he could see smoke waving slowly skywards from the chimney of the Nelson’s home. “Bees don’t like smoke,” he thought. “They couldn’t get into the house.” Andy raced towards the Nelson’s house, but the bees were gaining ground. Andy knew he could not reach the house in time. He estimated that the bees would catch up with him soon. W: Oh, hello. I read about your club in the paper today and I thought I’d phone to find out a bit more.
M: Yes, certainly. Well, we are a sort of social club for people from different countries. It’s quite a new club—we have about 50 members at the moment, but we are growing all the time.
W: That sounds interesting. I’m British actually, and I came to Washington about three months ago. I’m looking for ways to meet people. Er, what kinds of events do you organize?
M: Well, we have social get-togethers, and sports events, and we also have language evenings.
W: Could you tell me something about the language evenings?
M: Yes. Every day except Thursday we have a language evening. People can come and practice their languages—you know, over a drink or something. We have different languages on different evenings. Monday—Spanish; Tuesday—Italian; Wednesday—German; and Friday—French. On Thursday we usually have a meal in a restaurant for anyone who wants to come.
W: Well, that sounds great. I really need to practice my French.
M: OK. Well, if you can just give me your name and address, I’ll send you the form and some more information. If you join now you can have the first month free.

I had a car accident and badly injured my right leg. The worst thing was how I felt about myself. I couldn’t believe I’d been so stupid!
W: You also lost your role in High Seas, didn’t you?
M: Yes. The accident was a real turning point in my life. After that, I didn’t touch alcohol again for almost a year. Then I met my wife Kerri and had two wonderful twin boys. They have really helped me to accept and appreciate life on and off stage.

W: About two years ago, I went with my class on our first school trip—five days in Paris! There were about thirty of us and four teachers. We all went in one big coach from our school in London. The teachers told us to be at school at four thirty in the morning. Everyone was there on time, but the coach didn’t arrive until five o’clock and we didn’t leave until five thirty! We were very cold and tired. Anyway, the coach was very comfortable and we watched a DVD and listened to some music on the journey. We had some sandwiches and drinks, so we went straight to Paris without stopping. The hotel was very old, but our room was nice and the bed was great! I shared the room with three other girls. When we went shopping, I tried to practice my French a few times but sometimes I didn’t know the right words and spoke in English instead! The shops were great. I bought lots of presents, such as a dress for my mother, a bag for my dad and a T-shirt for my little sister! I think what I enjoyed most was the boat trip. I took lots of photos with my friends and the wonderful art galleries. I was sad to leave Paris. I had a wonderful time there.

参考范文:
Good morning, ladies and gentlemen!
It’s my great honor to stand here. What is the most important in our life? As a matter of fact, there is nothing more important than our health, but without the great environment, how can we be healthy? Therefore, it’s high time that everyone of us should participate in the environmental protection.
First, never should we drop litter around. Second, we can call on more people to protect the environment. Last, we can contact environmental protection departments in time if we find factories are polluting our environment.
In a word, it’s the effort of everybody that makes our world better.
That’s all. Thank you for listening.
第二节:
参考范文:
Without hesitation, Andy jumped off his bike and dived into the cool water. After holding his breath for as long as he could, Andy came up for air and noticed the bees had gone. Dragging himself out of the dam, he struggled up the hilly slope and rang the doorbell. Mr. Nelson happened to be home and seeing the tired and wet boy, the owner took him inside. After knowing what Andy had experienced, he praised the boy and rang his mother.
In no time, his mother appeared in front of him. Seeing Andy, his mother anxiously asked whether he was injured. Andy answered it was the dam that saved him. His mother laughed with relief and said he really needed that fishing break to help him recover. But Andy did not hear her. He was thinking his father’s words “When you are in a tight situation, don’t panic.” And he realized how important it was to listen to parents
