An Impressive Welcoming Ceremony
Last Sunday evening, our school held a welcoming ceremony in the music hall to extend our warm welcome to the 20 exchange students from the US. It started with a welcoming speech delivered by our principal. Then came the show time when students displayed their talents in painting and calligraphy. The most exciting part was the evening party, at which all the students had great fun singing and dancing.
Everyone present was greatly impressed by the ceremony. Not only did it bring warmth and happiness to the exchange students, but it also strengthened our friendship.

第二节:读后续写(满分25分)
When I told my coach Ollie Jarvis, he was as angry as I expected him to be. “You have your whole life to work,” he said, with a serious look on his face, “but your playing days are limited. You can’t afford to waste them.” I stood before him with my head hanging, trying to think of the words that would explain to him why my dreamof having money in my pocket and buying my mother a house was worth facing his disappointment in me. “How much are you going to make at this summer job, son? ” he demanded. “$ 3.5 per hour,” I replied in a low voice.
“Well,” he asked, “is $ 3.5 an hour from the summer job the price of a dream?” That simple question set me thinking. It made me understand the difference between wanting something right now and having a long-term goal. Determined to put all my heart into baseball, I promised the coach that I would give up the job. That summer, I dedicated myself to baseball training, and the next year, I was given a baseball scholarship to a university. Finally, I signed with a famous team for $ 1.7 million, and certainly bought my mother the house of my dream.

M: Because my holidays will be over soon.
Text 2
W: Excuse me. I want to check my e-mail. Are there any Internet cafes near here?(2)
M: No, there aren’t, but there are some near the university. You can take a bus there. The bus stop is just over there.
Text 3
W: Hey, John. How is your new job in South Korea?(3)
M: Not bad. I like it very much.

M: You’re the boss. (5)

M: I would like to know something about beginner Chinese. My company has put me in charge of sales in China, so I’d like to talk with our customers in their language. (6) And my friends advised me to come here.
W: Well, that’s an introductory course, so the focus is on basic grammar and some simple phrases. That class is already half full till today, so you should sign up soon. (7)
M: I’d do that now.
W: OK, sir. Here is the timetable for our courses. You can take it home.

W: Jason, I’m so glad that you dropped by. I wanted to speak with you about your paper that you turned in last week. (12)
M: Oh, sure. Was there anything the matter with it?
W: Uh, actually, yes. I think you must have read the directions wrong or something because you turned in a report on a topic that we won’t even go over until next month. (10)
M:Oh my God! Surely you can’t be serious?
W: Oh, I would never joke about something like this. I’m not sure where exactly you got the idea for this paper.
M: Well.. it’s actually a little embarrassing, but I suppose that I should tell you. I lost my list of the topics you had given us. So I’ve been relying upon one of my friends to tell me what our tasks are. (11) He must have played a joke on me.
W: I think you might need to reconsider that friendship of yours. Anyway, for some reason, I’m not going to give you a zero on this paper.
Text 9
W: Hi, Mike. Where are you going?
M: Hi, Emma. I’m just going out to that new farmers’ market that opened last month. (16)
W: You are? I haven’t been there yet. I thought it was supposed to be really expensive compared to the supermarket. (13)
M: No. A friend told me about a blog. In this blog, a person did a comparison between the farmers’ market and the local supermarket. She spent much less money shopping at the farmers’ market. (14)
W: Really?
M: Besides, the milk at the farmers’ market is so much nicer. The yogurt the farm makes is excellent too. And the fruit and vegetables are picked later. That’s got to be better for everybody. And of course, it’s a lot fresher.
W: So, what were the prices she mentioned? Do you remember?
M: Not exactly. But I remember fruit and vegetables save people most money. They’re cheaper and of better quality. (15) So are you busy today?
W: No, hang on a second. Let me get my purse. I’m coming with you. (16)
