    C. She relaxed in the hotel.
    【答案】17. A 18. A 19. B 20. C
    【解析】
【原文】W: Well, my name is Cindy and recently, I’ve finished a tour which is not the type of thing I’d usually go for. But because we won it, we didn’t have to pay anything. We didn’t get off to a good start, though, because the bus from the airport to the hotel was awful. It took ages. The trip was all-inclusive, so all drinks and meals were included in the price. The drinks were fantastic! The hotel food was either tasteless or too hot, but the waiters were all friendly and knowledgeable at least. John decided he wanted to take a trip to a museum, so I went along. Actually, I didn’t really like it. It was pretty disappointing. I surely preferred being near the ocean. The beach was amazing and I went there several times. In the second week, John went off on his own into the mountains, but I stayed in the hotel. I once tried going on an elephant ride, but it was terrible. Elephants frightened me, so I gave up. The two weeks went by so quickly. We got back last night and, all in all, I think it was a great trip, really relaxing. I’m so glad we entered the competition.

A Portland, Oregon man has become the first person to travel across Antarctica by himself without receiving any assistance.
Colin O’Brady has completed the 1,500-kilometer trip. He crossed the continent in 54 days. Friends, family and other people followed his progress through messages and pictures he left on social media.
O’Brady spoke with his wife Jenna Besaw by telephone soon after he completed the journey. “It was an emotional call,” she said. “He seemed overwhelmed by love and appreciation, and he really wanted to say ‘thank you’ to all of us.”
The 33-year-old O’Brady documented the trip on the social networking services Instagram. He called his journey “The Impossible First”. He wrote that he traveled the last 129 kilometers in one big, final push to the finish line. The distance took over one day to complete. O’Brady wrote, “While the last 32 hours were some of the most challenging hours of my life, they have quite honestly been some of the best moments I have ever experienced.”
The day before, he wrote that he was “in the zone” and thought he could make it to the end without stopping. “I was listening to my body and taking care of the details to keep myself safe,” he wrote. “I called home and talked to my mom, sister and wife. I promised them I would stop when I need to.”
Other people have traveled across Antarctica, but they all had some form of assistance. They either had better, more plentiful supplies or devices that helped move them forward.
In 2016, British explorer Henry Worsley died in his attempt to travel alone across Antarctica unassisted. Worsley’s friend Louis Rudd, also from Britain, is attempting an unaided solo journey in Worsley’s honor. He was competing against O’Brady to be the first to do it. Besaw told the Associated Press that her husband plans to stay in Antarctica until Rudd finishes his trip.

    A. It was pleasant. B. It was discouraging.
    C. It was impossible to complete. D. It was hard to complete.
    25. What did O’Brady promise his family?

The introduction of the iPad, with its touch screen technology, has allowed even very young children to take advantage of a computer. So what if all children in a school were given an iPad to use in class and take home with them?
Anne Laure Bazin works in a school where every child, teacher and teaching assistant is given a free iPad to use in and out of lessons. For her, the main advantage of everyone having an iPad has been the improvement in communication. Documents (文件) can be emailed straight over to workmates during a meeting. Children submit their homework by email, or through the school’ s learning environment. Teachers now take the register using their iPad, which means that there is a centralized record of which children are in school, and which classroom they are in.
The use of iPads has encouraged greater sharing of resources among teachers. All communication with parents is now done by email. Working as a group in class is much easier as children can share documents. The whole class can look at one child’s work by attaching the iPad to the whiteboard. If a child has forgotten the textbook, the teacher can take a photograph of the relevant (相关的) page and send it to the student in class.
While the use of the iPad in schools has revolutionized (变革) the way children are taught, it hasn’t completely replaced more traditional methods of teaching. Worksheets are still used in class as some children prefer the contact with paper. The children all have a textbook and exercise books. In Anne Laure’s school, parents feared that the iPads would replace exercise books and children would lose handwriting skills. Anne Laure says,“ The teachers are not ready to let go of the traditional style of teaching. We have welcomed the iPads in so much as they help communication and widen the resources available (可得到的) but we are not ready to let go of paper yet. The children themselves still value their exercise books anddepend on them for revision. ”
    28. When everyone uses an iPad in school, teachers can ______.
    A. have deep conversations with students
    B. have more time to prepare the lessons
    C. learn more about students’ activities at home
    D. communicate with their workmates more conveniently
    29. What is an advantage of using iPads in the classroom?
    A. It saves students bringing the textbooks.
    B. It reduces parents’ worry about teaching.
    C. It improves the relationship between teachers.
    D. It makes sharing information convenient.
    30. What is parents’ attitude towards the use of iPads in the classroom in Annie’s school?
    A. Worried. B. Uncaring. C. Annoyed. D. Supportive.
    31. What is the main idea of the last paragraph?
    A. Teachers prefer traditional methods of teaching.
    B. The iPads won’t take the place of printed materials.

If you have ever been disappointed because you don’t have a good gardener, the clever robot may one day become the helper of your indoor plants.
The Hexa Plant is a six-legged robot that has been specially made to care for the potted (盆栽的) plant that it carries on top of its head. Using light and heat sensors (传感器), the robot has the ability to carry its plant in and out of the daylight. If the houseplant needs more sun, the Hexa will walk into the sunlight; and if the houseplant is getting too hot, the Hexa will go back into the area that blocks direct light. The Hexa Plant will even do a little dance when it senses that the plant needs to be watered to warn its owner.
The robot was developed by Vincross engineer and founder Sun Tianqi after he saw a dead Sunflower sitting in the darkness in a room back in 2014. “Plants only receive an action without responding (回应),” Sun Tianqi wrote in a blog post. “Whether they are being cut, bitten, burned or pulled from the earth, or when they haven’t received enough sunshine, water, or are too hot or cold, they will hold still and take whatever is happening to them. ”
According to Sun Tianqi, for billions of years, plants have never experienced movement of any kind, not even the simplest movement. In their whole lives, they stick to where they were born. Sun Tianqi continued, “Do they want to break their own settings or have a tendency (趋向) towards this? I do not know the answer, but I would love to try to share some of this human tendency and technology with plants. With the help of the robot, plants can experience the move. ”
The Hexa Plant model robots are not for sale, though Vincross does sell a Hexa robot model. It is said that in the near future the robots can open up a new market to watch over our household plants.
    32. What can we learn about the Hexa Plant?
    A. It helps indoor plants get proper sunlight. B. It waters the plants through dancing.
    C. It helps people do some gardening. D. It carries the potted plant with its hands.
    33. What does the underlined word “blocks” mean in paragraph 2?
    A. Hides. B. Avoids. C. Prevents. D. Receives.
    34. What does the author try to show through Paragraph 3?
    A. The way plants spend their whole lives.
    B. The common way people deal with plants.
    C. The difference between plants and humans.
    D. The cause of making the indoor plants’helper.
    35. What does Sun Tianqi try to do using this technology?
    A. To develop gardening skills. B. To draw people’s attention to plants.
    C. To make plants experience move. D. To study the living conditions of plants.
    【答案】32. A 33. C 34. D 35. C
