If you are currently learning English, I highly recommend you check out the apps below.
Quizlet
When learning English, you probably have to memorize a lot of words. If you want to grow your
vocabulary as fast as possible, a flashcard app like Quizlet is a great shortcut. With Quizlet, you can create
a set of flashcards with new English words you are trying to learn, and practice typing them out until you
know them by heart. It's a simple concept, but it's highly effective.
Spotify
Spotify is not a language learning app. But chances are that you already use it or a similar app for
listening to music or podcasts(播客), and one of the effective ways to study is combining something
you already use into your existing habits. If Spotify is already on your phone, you can subscribe to some
podcasts for English learners or download playlists of songs for learning English, or make your own.
Beelinguapp
Beelinguapp makes reading in English as convenient as possible. It shows you a text in your own
language with the English translation side-by-side. Texts are short enough so that you can really dig into
every word. They cover topics from fairytales, to science, to current news articles. There's even a
"karaoke" feature where you can read along to audio (音频), which helps you match up the English
pronunciation with the English spellings.
Tandem
Tandem is a language exchange app which connects learners from all over the world. It can help you find a native English speaker who is trying to learn your native language, so you can swap language skills. If you only have five minutes to spare, you can simply exchange messages with a native English speaker. If you have more time, you can have a longer, digital language exchange by sharing voice notes, or using video chat. It's a great way to test your English skills out with real people.
21. What is Spotify intended to help people do?
A. Develop a good habit. B. Listen to music or podcasts.
C. Learn a foreign language. D. Memorize words with flashcards.
22. What is the advantage of Beelinguapp?
A. Learners can use their native language as a reference.
B. It's convenient for learners to translate voice notes.
C. It provides learners a chance to tell their own stories.
D. Learners can sing English songs along to the music.
23. Which app can help people interact with a native speaker?
A. Quizlet. B. Spotify. C. Beelinguapp. D. Tandem.
B
There’s nothing wrong with a tomato that isn’t perfectly rounded or a peach with an extra
dimple (凹) or two; they still carry the same benefits and flavors as the versions we’re used to seeing in grocery stores. Farmers throw away these imperfect items, as many grocery chains won’t buy them for fear that they are unsellable. However, a growing group of grocery chains are fighting to make these discarded fruits and vegetables part of consumers’ buying habits.
One such business is Imperfect Produce, a start-up that delivers fresh ugly produce to consumers. Through this service, you can get up to 20 pounds of fruit and veggies for around $20 a week. This is about
a 30 percent discount compared to what’s currently sold in stores. Recently, the company had a major breakthrough when Whole Foods accepted their partnership and agreed to sell the misshaped produce.
While this movement might be a new trend here in the US, it’s already gained serious momentum (势头) in Europe. In 2014, the E. U. announced the Year Against Food Waste, with French grocery chain Intermarché launching a very successful campaign called Inglorious Fruits and Vegetables and England’s Waitrose selling “weather blemished” apples. In Portugal, a similar company to Imperfect Produce called Fruta Feia has also taken off.
Buying these unfortunate-looking foods should be appealing to consumers not only because of the affordability, but also because of the support it gives to farmers and the direct impact it has on decreasing food waste and the environmental pollution. It is believed that when the discarded fruits and vegetables decompose (腐烂) they release methane (甲烷), a greenhouse gas that, when released into the atmosphere, is about 86 times as powerful as carbon dioxide over a 20-year period. Waste is, in fact, the ugliest thing of all.
24. What does the underlined word “discarded” in paragraph one mean?
A. Thrown-away. B. Harvested. C. Consumed. D. Sold-out.
25. What is the purpose of Imperfect Produce?
A. Make better profits. B. Sell imperfect produce.
C. Get discounts from farmers. D. Compete with Whole Foods.
26. What can we learn about Europe compared with the US?
A. It has more successfully-run food chains.
B. It produces less misshaped fruits and vegetables.
C. It addresses the problem of misshaped produce earlier.
D. It faces a more serious problem of unfavorable weather.
27. According to the last paragraph, why is wasted food harmful to the environment?
A. It pollutes the farms. B. It gives out a bad smell.
C. It contributes to global warming. D. It produces lots of carbon dioxide.
C
Sending human travelers to Mars would require scientists and engineers to overcome a range of technological and safety obstacles. One of them is the serious risk posed by particle radiation (粒子辐射) from the sun, distant stars and galaxies (星系).
Answering two key questions would go a long way toward overcoming that difficulty: Would particle radiation pose too serious a threat to human life throughout a round trip to the red planet? And, could the very timing of a mission to Mars help shield astronauts and the spacecraft from the radiation?
In a new article published in the journal Space Weather, an international team of space scientists, including researchers from UCLA, answers those two questions with a “no” and a “yes.” That is, humans should be able to safely travel to and from Mars, provided that the spacecraft has sufficient shielding and the round trip is shorter than approximately four years. And the timing of a human mission to Mars would indeed make a difference: The scientists determined that the best time for a flight to leave Earth would be when solar activity is at its peak, because, during this period, the most dangerous and energetic particles from distant galaxies are deflected (偏转) by the enhanced solar activity.
A trip of that length would be imaginable. The average flight to Mars takes about nine months, so depending on the timing of launch and available fuel, it is reasonable that a human mission could reach the planet and return to Earth in less than two years, according to Yuri Shprits, a UCLA research geophysicist and co–author of the paper.
“This study shows that while space radiation impose (强加) strict limitations on how heavy the spacecraft can be and the time of launch, and it presents technological difficulties for human missions to Mars, such a mission is possible,” said Shprits, who also is head of space physics and space weather at GFZ Research Centre for Geosciences in Potsdam, Germany.
28. What’s the function of the first paragraph?
A. To list human’s achievements in space.
B. To show a possible way to travel to Mars.
C. To display scientists’ effort to travel to Mars.
D. To present one of the difficulties of the trip to Mars.
29. What does the underlined word "shield" in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Escape. B. Approach. C. Protect. D. Separate.
30. How long can a round trip to Mars last considering the safety of astronauts and the spacecraft?
A. About 9 years. B. Less than 4 years.
C. Only 5 years. D. More than 6 years.
31. What can be the best title for the text?
A. Will It Be Safe for Humans to Fly to Mars?
B. Humans Will Travel to Mars in Two Years
C. The Timing of a Trip to Mars Is Planned
D. Particle Radiation Changes for the Solar Activity
D
The term “social distancing” has been at the center of public conversation for a while. But it's not
“social" distance we are trying to promote. It's physical separation. In fact, preserving social ties—even
at a distance—is essential for both mental and physical health. The results of an analytic review done in
2017 indicate that a lack of social support nearly amounts to smoking cigarettes as a risk factor for health.
Given this fact, how might we best stay connected to others while maintaining physical distance?
Would we be better off e-mailing a friend? Making a phone call? Setting up a video chat? In our study,
Nick Epley and I tested whether the media, through which people interact, affects their sense of connection,
and how expectations about certain technologies impact (影响) the communication media they choose to
use.
In our experiment, we asked participants to reconnect with someone that they hadn't interacted with
recently, either through e-mail or over the phone. Participants first made predictions about what it would
be like to get in touch if they reached out in these two ways. They generally believed that they'd feel more
connected when interacting via the phone than over e-mail. But they also predicted that talking on the
phone could be more uncomfortable than sending an e-mail. Although these participants believed that
talking encouraged stronger bonds, most of them said they' d rather send an e-mail than call the person up.
Fears about awkwardness, it seems, push individuals toward text-based methods for communicating.
In the next part of the experiment, we had participants actually reconnect using one randomly
determined mode of communication and then followed up with them after they had done so. We found that
people do form meaningfully stronger bonds when interacting over the phone than over e-mail.
Importantly, though, there was no difference in the amount of discomfort when reconnecting on the
phone.
The next time you think about how best to connect, consider calling or setting up a video chat.
Feelings of social connection are preferably promoted by voice rather than a keyboard.
32. How does the author support his view on the importance of maintaining social ties?
A. By stating a deep-rooted tradition.
B. By quoting a published report.
C. By sharing public opinions.
D. By presenting government’s policy.
33. What did the author and Epley's study focus on?
A. How technologies impact means of communication.
B. How people’s behaviour affects each other’s friendship.
C. Why maintaining social separation is bad for mental health.
D. Why reconnecting with friends over the phone brings awkwardness.
34. What can we infer from the study results?
A. They changed the research objectives.
B. They live up to society’s expectations.
C. They provided inspiration for future studies.
D. They are partly opposed to participants' predictions.
35. What can be concluded from the text?
A. For stronger bonds, talk instead of typing.
B. Keeping in touch is the key to a lasting friendship.
C. Think before you consider contacting an old friend.
D. Text-based methods for communication cause discomfort.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)

If you've been feeling a lot sleepy in your daily life, here are some tips to picking up your energy
levels. But first, you should make sure if you're experiencing some serious illnesses. 36 , keep these
tips in mind.
The first recommendation is to exercise. Although it may seem difficult to work out when you're tired,
it turns out that physical activity can actually give you more energy. The second thing to work on is to go
to sleep early enough to get a full night's sleep, preferably so that you wake up naturally without the need
for your alarm. 37 . Thus, another useful tip is to take a nap during the afternoon. Naps can restore
your mind and body without taking up too much time, regaining your energy and raising working
efficiency. The best length of time for a nap is about 20 minutes. Shorter, and you won't get much out of it.
38 .
39 . Drinking plenty of water and fluids throughout the day is one important way to stay
energized, since dehydration (脱水)leaves us in low sprits. Some experts say that eating smaller meals
more often throughout the day can help maintain energy and balance blood sugar levels. Be aware also that
people who are overweight are more likely to experience tiredness easily. 40 , reducing extra
weight could help you gain more energy.
A. If you're overweight
B. If you feel uncomfortable
C. As you know, it is quite a good habit
D. However, this goal is hard to achieve in practice
E. Longer, and you may find it harder to sleep at night
F. If you're otherwise healthy but just need some extra energy
G. Other ways to increase energy involve our diet and consumption

Plants cannot move from place to place, but seeds can. They can travel great distances. They may be carried by the wind or upon the water. They may also be carried by animals or people. Seeds 66 (carry) by the wind often have special shapes. Maple seeds have wings that spin and keep them in the air for longer, allowing them to land in all kinds of places. 67 (depend) on the strength of the wind, they can sometimes travel for hundreds of kilometres.Coconuts are carried along by ocean 68 (current). When a coconut falls from a tree onto the

digestive systems of animals. Many plants produce 71 (attract) fruits that animals like to eat. The animal receives the nutrients of the fruit, 72 it does not digest the seed, which is passed out some time 73 (late). 第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I couldn’t bear it any longer! My best friend had gone for lunch with the most popular girl in class,
leaving me to eat my tuna sandwich alone in the library. Worse still, during dance class, my partner, a boy, refused to hold my hand and bad mouthed me behind my back, further feeding my anger. It was, without a doubt, my worst day in school. I was hurt and mad, and looking for a target to release my anger. When I got home from school, Mother had baked peanut butter cookies and piled them up on a plate. She even artfully decorated each one with royal icing and topped it with sugar. “Couldn’t you have made chocolate chip?” I said moodily. “I could have,” she replied from the laundry room, “but I made peanut butter ones. Eat them while they’re still hot, sweetie.” Although I thought Mother was rather unthoughtful, I caved in and took a few bites unwillingly in the end. Later, when she pulled a grilled chicken from the oven and sang a merry tune, I somehow got annoyed again — Never mind that Mother had busied herself the whole afternoon with the cooking just to put this hot meal on the table. I wanted hamburgers.
“Nobody even likes that kind of food, Mum! Why didn’t you make hamburgers?” I complained.Mother took a deep breath, ran her fingers through her messy hair and looked into my eyes with a puzzled
look. “Sweetheart, you’ve never complained about having it before. What’s up?” she said matter-of-factly (平淡地). It was from there that all went downhill. I screamed and complained nonstop until Mother hit her limit. It was the first time that Mother had got mad at me. Nobody seemed to care about me, including my beloved mother! Ultimately, we had a shouting match in the hallway.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Unable to contain her anger, “No dinner for you! Go to bed now!” she exploded.

第一节 应用文(15分)
Sunny October 30th
As scheduled, our annual sport meeting was held last today. We went to the campus to watch the final of the 4x100-meter relay. So extraordinary was the experience that I would never forget. I had never imagined that the atmosphere at a sports event could be so intense. When the runners set off, everyone went wild! We all stood up, cheering and shouting. The runners strained to run as fast as they could, while trying not to drop their batons at the change. I was also caught up in the excitement and cheered so hard that I thought my lungs would burst! It was so wonderful to be part of this sporting moment and enjoy its speed and passion.
第二节 读后续写(25分)
Para. 1:
Unable to contain her anger,” No dinner for you! Go to bed now!” she exploded. It was the first time that Mother had got mad at me. Nobody seemed to care about me, including my beloved mother! My teeth were chattering, unable to utter a single word, with my hands shaking. I stormed to my bedroom, and slammed the door behind me. Lying on bed, I finally calmed down and my breathing became regular. A sharp pain of fault hit me. The more I thought about my actions, the heavier my heart felt. Then, I heard strange sounds coming from the kitchen. Puzzled, I opened my bedroom door, tiptoeing towards the kitchen.
Para. 2:
Then a thick, juicy smell of hamburgers greeted my nose. Sensing my footsteps, Mother looked up, asking tentatively, “Want some?” I took a bite guiltily, shedding regretful tears. “Mom, I’m awfully sorry for being awful to you today. I had a bad day at school. I don’t deserve this.” I apologized. “I should have guessed you’re in a tough spot, sorry, honey. I remember those growing up years.” Mother smiled and gave me a big bear hug. There was nothing like mother’s unconditional love — that night, I should have been punished; instead, Mother dished up a hearty portion of grace.

1. M: I like these cups. How much are they?
W: Eight dollars each. Or two for 15.
M: So I’d like two of them.
2. M: Hey, Jane. How’s the dance class going?
W: Great. Just on the way to tennis practice. And you?
M: I’m going to my violin lesson.
3. M: Why are you late for class?
W: Oh, I locked the keys in my room. I had to wait until my roommate got back so that I could get my textbooks.
4. M: I’d like to check into a room, please.
W: Did you make a reservation with us?
M: Yes, it’s under my last name Kendell.
W: OK, I have found your reservation. You’ll be staying in Room 810. Here’s your key.
5. M: The weather was clear all down the coast, so the flight was pretty smooth.
W: But that fog did make it longer than we expected.
M: Yeah. Anyway I am glad to be home safely.
6. W: Where did you live while you were working in Australia?
M: At first, I was given a room in a hotel in town but I found that I felt quite lonely so I moved to the campground.
Lots of other staff lived there and I got to meet lots of the local people too.
W: Did you get along with them?
M: Of course. Everyone was really friendly and, as there wasn’t a cinema or restaurant nearby, the local people
often had a party on Saturday night and I was always invited.
7. W: Where did you go this weekend, John?
M: I spent two days in the countryside.
W: What did you do there?
M: I had a picnic with my family. I also lay down on the grass and looked at the clouds in the blue sky. It was the
happiest time of my life. How about you? Did you have a good weekend?
W: Yeah. I visited an Italian city. There are no tall buildings or heavy traffic.
M: Why?
W: It’s an ancient city with a history of two thousand years. The Italians don’t want to change the ancient city
into a modern one.
M: Do other people like their literature and art?
W: Yes. Millions of people from other parts of the world visit the city every year.
8. W: Oh, look, there’s the new Krissy Holt CD. She’s got such a great voice, hasn’t she?
M: Actually, I don’t really like her singing.
W: Oh. Well, what about over here? There are CDs of other pop bands. Look, here is Westwood. The band is
quite old now, but they’re still pretty good, don’t you think?
M: I sort of like slower music.
W: Maybe you’d like Michael Barton. He sings music from the past. He’s got a great voice.
M: I’ve heard of him before and I’m really interested in his music. Honestly, I prefer reading more than listening
to music. Can we go to the bookstore across the street?
W: OK.
9. M: Let’s go over the arrangements for my trip to Bombay.
W: Sure, here’s your schedule. You’re flying at 9:55 on Monday evening. That’s British Airway flight 139. Er,
you have to check in two hours before so I’ve arranged for a car to pick you up from the office at 6:30. It gets
into Bombay at 11:15 p.m.
M: Good. Now when am I seeing Mr. Shah?
W: Tuesday afternoon at two. By the way, Mr. Majundar is coming to the meeting as well.
M: That’s good news, so we don’t have to arrange a separate meeting. And has the tour of the new factory been
arranged for Wednesday?
W: Yes, they’ll pick you up in the morning at 9.
M: Good. Have you got traveler’s cheques?
W: Yes, here you are.
M: Now has my visa arrived?
W: No, not yet. I’ll phone and find out if they’ve sent it off yet.
M: Thanks. And when am I flying back?
W: I’m afraid the earliest flight I could get is Thursday at 1:15 a.m. Everything else was booked up.
10. Hello and good afternoon. My name is Jane Walker and I’d like to welcome you new students to the university of Westley. What am I going to do today is just explain to you about some of the places here. If you look at the map on the screen, let me talk you through some of the places before describing them fully. Well, at present we are in the main lecture hall. If you go out of the main front entrance, then you’ll see opposite across the car park the entrance for the Students’ Union, which is the center of a lot of university life for most students. About 150 meters on the left of the Students’ Union is the university library. Behind the library is the main dining hall where many students eat both lunch and dinner. On the other side of the Students’ Union is a small church and behind the church there is a dormitory. There are three other dormitories behind the Students’ Union. Behind the main lecture hall we are in now is the sports hall and ground. You will find it all a bit confusing at first but you’ll get to know your way around very quickly.
