Nadine McKenzie, a 35-year-old wheelchair dancer in South Africa, has experienced great difficulty since he took up dancing as a hobby. He said that access is the biggest barrier for entering the performing arts. “There are not many companies or training programs for persons with disabilities, especially in the dance field,” McKenzie said. “I’ve had quite a few experiences where you’d be in a class with different people and some trainers would not know what to do with us, and so for those reasons, they don’t open these spaces to different artists.”
Beyond lack of access, McKenzie, who’s been dancing for 15 years, said inclusion(认同) is another barrier for people with disabilities. “There are very few people especially in South Africa that actually have projects where they involve dancers with disabilities,” he added. “It's something that’s still very difficult, but it’s slowly starting to change.”
Seeing a gap in the industry, McKenzie founded Unmute with his friends in 2013, a dance company in Cape Town that enlists young South Africans with disabilities to get involved in the arts. “It's been extremely rewarding in the sense that we’ve been able to create more platforms for artists to train and perform, and also expose more young people,” he said. McKenzie believes Unmute is helping break down some of these barriers through awareness campaigns not just for people with disabilities to sign up, but also for able-bodied people to learn how to work with them.
Gerard Samuel, a professor at the University of Cape Town told CNN that though there has been some progress in both access and inclusion within dance, there is still much work to be done. “Barriers include mindsets of limitation and inability of disabled persons,” he said. All this still need to change. He believes that education, investment and more representation in the media would help encourage more accessibility and inclusion.
    4. What can we learn from the first two paragraphs?
    A. Inclusion is the biggest barrier for dancers with disabilities.
    B. It's challenging for disabled people to get involved in dance.
    C. Nadine McKenzie began to dance when he was 15 years old.
    D. Most projects in South Africa involve dancers with disabilities.
    5. Which word can best describe McKenzie?

    6. What can we infer from the passage?
    A. Unmute benefited both people with disabilities and able-bodied ones.
    B. McKenzie founded a dance company all by himself.
    C. Little progress in both access and inclusion has been made.
    D. Unmute only created platforms for artists to train and perform.
    7. According to Gerard Samuel, ______can help encourage accessibility and inclusion.
    A. education and investment B. mindsets of limitation
    C. less representation in the media D. inability of disabled persons.
    【答案】4. B 5. D 6. A 7. A

Eating too much fat contributes to the risk of stroke (中风) and other heart diseases. However, it’s the type of fat, not the amount, that appears to be more important when it comes to stroke. Eating plant-based fats lowers stroke risk, according to a study presentation given at the American Heart Association Scientific Sessions 2021.
The study, which hasn’t yet been proved by other researchers, found people who ate the most vegetable-based fats were 12% less likely to experience a stroke compared to those who ate the least. On the other hand, people who ate the highest levels of animal-based saturated (饱和) fat were 16% more likely to experience a stroke than those who ate the least fat of that kind. The findings show the type of fat and different food sources of fat are more important than the total amount of fat in preventing certain diseases including stroke.
“You need fat to survive. Fats help your body absorb vitamins from foods, build cells, give you energy and keep you warm. But it’s the unsaturated fats that come from vegetables, nuts and fatty fish that can lower your cholesterol (胆固醇) level and help keep you healthy. Saturated fats are generally not as healthy They mainly come from red and processed meats.
“A proper reduction in red and processed meat consumption within a healthy eating pattern can reduce total death by 13%, heart disease death by 14%, cancer death by 11% and type 2 diabetes risk by 24%,” said Dr. Frank Hu, one of the authors of the stroke study.
Interestingly, dairy fat was not associated with a higher risk of stroke, the study found. There has been an ongoing debate among researchers as to the role of dairy. The diet guidelines for Americans call for three servings of low-and no-fat dairy each day.
    8. What can we learn from the passage?
    A. The more fat you take in, the easier you’ll have a stroke.
    B. Eating animal-based fats lowers the risk of stroke.
    C. The study has been recognized by most researchers.
    D. Different food sources of fat have an effect on stroke prevention.
    9. How does Paragraph 2 mainly develop?
    A. By making comparisons. B. By analyzing causes and effects.
    C. By providing examples. D. By following the order of time.
    10. What is the main idea of the passage?
    A. The type of fat matters when it comes to stroke.
    B. People should eat less red meat to keep healthy.
    C. Fat plays an important role in people’s life.
    D. Americans need three servings of dairy per day.
    11. Which section of a newspaper does the text probably come from?
    A. Environment B. Technology C. Health D. Travel
    【答案】8. D 9. A 10. A 11. C

How to enjoy working out if you hate exercise
Regular physical activity helps people build their bodies, it is also great at fighting anxiety and depression. However, not everyone is into sports. How can you create a workout routine you can stick with and enjoy? ___16___
Make exercising a regular part of your day.
At first, I took a casual approach to exercise and worked out every other day, but if I didn’t make it, I just let it go. The problem was, I kept finding reasons to bag my workouts. ___17___ So I changed my approach and decided exercise had to be a regular part of my day, like eating or sleeping. Now setting a specific time for working out helped keep me on task.
    ___18___
One of the biggest mistakes beginners make is doing too much, too soon. If you want to try running, don’t go out and run 3 miles as fast as you can. Alternate running a block or a minute with walking a block or a minute for just 1 mile and build from there. This same principle applies to any new activity you select. And give your new activity time, as it takes a while for a new behavior to become a habit.
Find a form of exercise you like doing.
Not everyone will get into running, like I did. Try various exercises and see what suits you. It might be running, swimming or biking. ___19___ It’s all movement, and that's all good.
Add fun factor to the exercise.
Even if you find an exercise you enjoy, not every workout will be fun. Sometimes you’ll be tired or just not in the mood to work out. This is when it’s time to get creative. Regularly exercising with a friend can help motivate both of you to keep it up. Drive to your favorite park, join a friend in their favorite activity or treat yourself to some new workout clothes. ___20___
    A. Soon I was running just one day a week.
    B. Do whatever it takes to keep exercising.
    C. Here are four tips I’ve found beneficial.
    D. Start slowly, and give your new routine time.
    E. The more exercise you take, the healthier you will be.
    F. Below are several things you should do to ensure safety.
    G. Or you might prefer working out to a video or dancing in your own room.
    【答案】16. C 17. A 18. D 19. G 20. B
    【解析】
    【分析】这是一篇说明文。针对如何制定锻炼计划并坚持下来给出几条建议。
    【16题详解】
C项“Here are four tips I’ve found beneficial.(以下是我发现的四个有用的建议)”回答了前文“How can you create a workout routine you can stick with and enjoy?(如何制定一套你可以坚持并享受的锻炼计划?)”的提问,并引出后文的四条建议,承上启下。故选C。
    【17题详解】
根据前文“The problem was, I kept finding reasons to bag my workouts.(问题是,我总是找理由取消锻炼)”可知,作者的锻炼频率少于最开始的每隔一天一次,逐渐变成了A项“Soon I was running just one day a week.(很快我一周只跑一天)”中的“one day a week(一周一次)”。故选A。
    【18题详解】
根据后文“One of the biggest mistakes beginners make is doing too much, too soon.(新手犯的最大错误之一就是做得太多太快)”和“And give your new activity time, as it takes a while for a new behavior to become a habit.(给你的新活动时间,因为新的行为需要一段时间才能成为习惯)”可知,新活动要慢慢来,不能操之过急,D项“Start slowly, and give your new routine time.(慢慢地开始,然后给自己制定新的锻炼计划)”中的“Start slowly”承接了下文的“too soon”,选项中“give your new routine time”呼应后文“give your new activity time”。故选D。
    【19题详解】
根据前文“It might be running, swimming or biking.(可能是跑步、游泳或骑自行车)”可知,作者在列举一些运动方式,G项“Or you might prefer working out to a video or dancing in your own room.(或者你可能更喜欢对着视频锻炼或在自己的房间里跳舞)”承接了前文,继续列举。故选G。
    【20题详解】

    注意:

    2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
As my father passed away a couple of years ago, I had to shoulder the responsibility and worked extremely hard to support my family. Being a travel agent, I was no stranger to long and tiring travels, moving from one place to another. Seldom did I have time to visit my mother, who lived alone a little far away from me.
One day at an airport, I overheard a father and daughter in their last moments together. They had announced her plane’s departure and standing near the door. He said to his daughter, “I love you, I wish you enough.”
She said, “Daddy, our life together has been more than enough. Your love is all I ever needed I wish you enough too, Daddy.” They kissed good-bye and she left. The father stood there watching until his daughter was out of sight.
He walked over toward the window where I was seated. Standing there I could see he wanted and needed to cry. I tried not to intrude(侵犯) on his privacy, but he welcomed me in by asking, “Did you ever say good-bye to someone knowing it would be forever? ” “Yes, I have, ” I replied.
“Forgive me for asking but why is this a forever good-bye?” I asked.
“I am old and she lives much too far away. I have challenges ahead and the reality is, her next trip back will be for my funeral,” he said I could definitely tell that he was in great sadness.
“When you were saying good-bye, I heard you say, ‘I wish you enough.’ May I ask what that means?” I then asked cautiously.
Paragraph 1: Hearing this, he began to smile and then explained it to me.
    ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2: I felt tears well up in my eyes.
    ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Paragraph 1:Hearing this, he began to smile and then explained it to me. “It’s a wish that has been handed down from other generations. My parents used to say it to everyone.”He paused for a moment. Looking up as if trying to remember it in detail, he smiled even more. When we said “I wish you enough”, we were wanting the other person to have a life filled with enough good things to keep life going. Having said these, he turned around and walked away, leaving me lost in thought.
Paragraph 2: I felt tears well up in my eyes. I was deeply touched. It was at that moment that I had a fuller understanding of the significance of family. I thought of my own parents, who have brought me up with much hardship without expecting anything in return. Determined, I made a promise that I would return home and visit my mother more frequently. There is nothing more important than family. Spend as much time as you can loving and caring people who love you. Enjoy each moment with them before it’s too late.
