When I tell people I wrote a book with my dadthey usually sayIt must be nice to think of the legacy(遗产) you created with someone who means so much to you.

This was a beautiful ideabut it was not the way Ior my dadever thought about the cooperation.Though we created something we were proud ofnice was not the word either of us used to describe the process.

It was more confrontation(对抗) than cooperation my dad likes to say.I agree.

When we landed a book dealwe began a writing journey that was more difficult than either of us had expectedbut also far more rewarding.

For almost three yearswe met once or twice a week at my parents house and talked daily about the plan and the outline of each chapter. After the meetingone of us would write a rough draft that the other would build on.I wanted the book to focus on positive vices(不良习惯)such as moderate(适度的) chocolate.Howevermy dad felt the book should include chapters dealing with things like walking and spending time with family.FinallyI saw it his way.He said the book was about more than just good vices. It was about encouraging people to enjoy life in healthy ways.

Writing this book is a reminder that our family members share not only our faults but also our strengths. My dad is smartfunnycritical and caring. He has a strong passion for the truth.I hope I share these great qualities. For this bookhe researched each topic with an enthusiasm I had never seen from himand he insisted that we constantly question and critically analyze every piece of information—even our own conclusions. He was determined to cooperate with me on a booknot because he could not write one on his ownbut because he believed that we could create something better together than we could alone.

How could we possibly think that keeping animals in cages in unnatural environments— mostly for entertainment purposes—is fair and respectful?

Zoo officials say they are concerned about animals.Howevermost zoos remain collection of interesting things rather than protective habitats.Zoos teach people that it is acceptable to keep animals boredlonelyand far from their natural homes.

Zoos claim to educate people and save endangered speciesbut visitors leave zoos without having learned anything meaningful about the animals natural behaviorintelligenceor beauty.Zoos keep animals in small spaces or cagesand most signs only mention the species namedietand natural range. The animals normal behavior is seldom noticed because zoos dont usually take care of the animals natural needs.

The animals are kept together in small spaceswith no privacy and little opportunity for mental and physical exercise. This results in unusual and self-destructive behavior called zoochosis.A worldwide study of zoos found that zoochosis is common among animals kept in small spaces or cages.Another study showed that elephants spend 22 percent of their time making repeated head movements or biting cage barsand bears spend 30 percent of their time walking back and fortha sign of unhappiness and pain.

Furthermoremost animals in zoos are not endangered.Captive breeding(圈养繁殖) of endangered big catsAsian elephantsand other species has not resulted in their being sent back to the wild.Zoos talk a lot about their captive breeding programs because they do not want people to worry about a species(物种) dying out.In factbaby animals also attract a lot of paying customers.Havent we seen enough competitions to name baby animals?

Actuallywe will save endangered species only if we save their habitats and put an end to the reasons people kill them.Instead of supporting zooswe should support groups that work to protect animals natural habitats.

    Aremain in cages

    Bbehave strangely

    Coften attack other animals

    Denjoy walking around

This results in unusual and self-destructive behavior called zoochosis.Another study showed that elephants spend 22 percent of their time making repeated head movements or biting cage barsand bears spend 30 percent of their time walking back and fortha sign of unhappiness and pain.

13What does the author try to argue in the passage?

AZoos are not worth the public support.

BZoos fail in their attempt to save animals.

CZoos should treat animals as human beings.

DZoos use animals as a means of entertainment.

    答案 A

Instead of supporting zooswe should support groups that work to protect animals natural habitats. 故选A

14The author tries to persuade readers to accept his argument mainly by         .

    Cquestioning the way animals live

Ddiscussing the advantages of natural habitats

    答案 A

In an ancient folktalea giant rock blocks the entrance to a cave filled with treasure.A door appears only for those who speak a secret phrase aloudOpensesame(芝麻)   1

Passwords have changed ever since. Now they safeguard digital treasuressuch as picturesmessagesand documents. But the reason why the phrases exist is still the sameto keep the wrong people out.  2   And when they can figure out a persons passwordthey can access private information. This allows them to play practical jokessuch as posting that information online.  3

There are passwords to avoid if you want to be safe online. The most popularly used password is 123456.This is the first guess hackers will make. They will then try to use public information about a potential target.  4   Hackers type this information into computer programs that can guess the targets passwords.

One of the best ways kids can keep their information secure is by thinking up strong passwords. So how can you invent a password thats easy for you to remember but hard for someone else to guess?   5   For examplea lyric from your favorite songor the title of a book or movie. Its best if the phrase is relevant to your life because youll be less likely to forget it.Then take the first letter or first couple of letters from each word in that phraseand begin switching those letters to symbols or numbers.Use both uppercase and lowercase(大写和小写) letters to make the password even trickier to crack(破解)

AYou can think of a fun phrase.

BThis is an early example of a password.

CThis may include a date of birth or a pets name.

DYou will benefit from making your passwords stronger.

ENo wonder your information was stolen a couple of times.

FIn the digital worldthese wrong people are called hackers.

GEven worsethe hackers might use the information to commit crimes.

A door appears only for those who speak a secret phrase aloudOpensesame(芝麻)’”可知,房门只为那些大声说密码的人打开。

But the reason why the phrases exist is still the sameto keep the wrong people out.

This allows them to play practical jokessuch as posting that information online. information online对应use the information。

They will then try to use public information about a potential target. a date of birth or a pets name对应上文中的public information。故选C项。

    5答案 A

So how can you invent a password thats easy for you to remember but hard for someone else to guess可知,A你可以选一个有趣的短语是对上文的解释说明且承接下文。下文中的a lyric from your favorite songor the title of a book or movie是对上文a fun phrase的具体解释。故选A项。
