    Text 10
W: Leaves are nature’s fd factries. Plants take water frm the grund thrugh their rts. They take a gas called carbn dixide frm the air. Plants use sunlight t turn water and carbn dixide int xygen and a kind f sugar. Oxygen is a gas in the air that we need t breathe. Plants use the kind f sugar as fd fr energy and as a building blck fr grwing.
As summer ends and autumn cmes, the days get shrter and shrter. This is hw the trees “knw” t begin getting ready fr winter.
During winter, the trees will rest, and live ff the fd they stred during the summer. They begin t shut dwn their fd-making factries. As the bright green fades away, we begin t see yellw and range clrs. Small amunts f these clrs have been in the leaves all alng. We just can’t see them in the summer, because they are cvered up by the greenness.
The bright reds and purples we see in leaves are made mstly in the fall. Sunlight and the cl nights f autumn cause the leaves t turn this kind f sugar int a red clr. The brwn clr f trees like aks is made frm wastes left in the leaves.
It is the cmbinatin f all these things that makes the beautiful fall full f different kinds f clrs we enjy each year.
