【典例示例】(2021年6月·浙江卷)You've got mail…and it's a postcardPaulo Magalhaes, a 34-year-old Portuguese computer engineer, loves to open his mailbox and find a brightly colored picture of Rome's Colosseum. Or Africa's Victoria Falls. Or China's Great Wall. 31 "I often send postcards to family and friends." he says to China Daily, "but you can imagine that after a while, you never receive as many as you send, and you realize that not everyone is into it 32 ” Seeking other like-minded souls, however, Paulo started looking in a somewhat unlikely place: online. Many would say the Internet is a place for people who have given up on the traditional postal service, but Paulo's hunch(直觉)paid off. Today his hobby has developed into the website postcrossing.com, a social network that has grown to 575,217 registered users in 214 countries and regions since he started it 10 years ago. 33 Running the website has almost turned into a full-time job. Language is certainly a harrier for many people. For postcrossing to work worldwide, a common communication language is needed so that everyone can understand each other. As cool as it may be to receive a postcard written in Chinese, the concept doesn't work if one doesn't understand it. 34 So a common language is required and in postcrossing that's English since it's widely spoken. "Many people in China have limited exposure to English. 35 That said, we know of many postcrossing members, including Chinese, who have actually improved their English skills through their use of postcrossing," Paulo says. A. And that's totally fineB. That makes it extra hard to learn and practice itC. He likes to think of sending postcards as a family-friendly hobbyD. Many love to make a connection with someone from across the world. E. On August 5, the number of postcards exchanged by members topped 31 million. F. Similarly, if you speak only Chinese, receiving a card in Swedish takes part of the fun away. G. In short, he loves postcards, and the excitement of getting a hand-written note from someone far away. 重点单词imagine料想,猜测,设想;seck寻找,寻求,谋求;register登记,注册;barrier 障碍,屏障,障碍物高级短语 give up故弃;pay off获得成功;turn into变成......长难句分析原文:Today his hobby has developed into the website postcrossing.com, a social network that hasgrown to 575,217 registered users in 214 countries and regions since he started it 10 year ago.分析:本句为主从复合句。句中的a social network与the website postcrossing.com是同位语;that引导定语从句;since引导时间状语从句。答案与解析:31.G 空格处为本段结尾句,前文出现了描述Paulo喜欢世界各地明信片的内容,即“Or Africa'sVictoria Falls. Or China 's Great Wal.”,由此可知他喜欢各种明信片。设空处为总结性语言,G选项中的信息“in short”符合逻辑顺序,“he loves postcards”承接上文题意。故选G项。32.A 空格前提到Paulo邮寄明信片的“遭遇”,空格后提到“Seeking other like-minded souls,However,Paulo started looking in a somewhat unlikely place: online”,由此可知空格处承上启下,表示遇到的问题“完全不成问题”,说明Paulo没有放弃自己的爱好,而是采取了网络方式。故选A。33.E 根据空格前的“a sociall network that has grown to 575,217 registered users in 2 14 countriesand regions since he started it 10 year ago”可知,Paulo创办的这家社交网站注册人数一直在增长,选项E中的“On August 5 , the number of postcards exchanged by members topped 31million”能承接前文,用数据说明网站的火爆。故选E。34.F 根据空格前的“As cool as it may be to receive postcard written in Chinesc, the concept doesn 't work if one doesn 't understand it”以及空后的“so”可知,此处指两者情况的比较。F项“Similarly, if you speak only Chincse, receiving a card in Swedish takes part of the funaway”符合题意,其中的“Similarly”说明对比关系。故选F。35.B 根据空格前的“Many people in China have limited exposure to English”可知,中国很多人接触英语的机会有限,所以学习和练习这种语言会有难度。B项“That makes it extra hard to learn and practice it”符合题意,其中的“hard to learn and practice”说明此意。故选B。【检测训练】1Learning a new language like English can be a challenge.1. Classes are important, but so is disciplined practice. It can even be fun. Here are some guidelines to help you become a better English learner.Study every day. Learning any new language is a time-consuming process, more than 300 hours according to some estimates. Rather than try and cram a few hours of review once or twice a week, most experts say short, regular study sessions are more effective.2. 3. Instead of focusing on one single task for the entire study session, try mixing things up. Study a little grammar, then do a short listening exercise, then perhaps read an article on the same topic. Don’t do too much; 20 minutes on three different exercises is plenty. The variety will keep you engaged and make studying more fun.Read, watch, and listen. Reading English-language newspapers and books, listening to music, or watching TV can also help you improve your written and verbal comprehension skills. 4. Write it down. Repetition is key as you're learning English, so writing is a great way to practice.5. By making a habit of writing, you’ll also find your reading and comprehension skills improve over time. You may even discover you’ve got a talent for writing.A. Keep things fresh.B. Play vocabulary and grammar games.C. But with regular study, it can be done.D. It doesn’t matter whether you use a computer or pen and paper.E.Non-native English speakers sometimes struggle with doing so.F.As little as 30 minutes a day can help you improve your English skills over time.G.By doing so repeatedly, you’ll absorb things like speech patterns, accents, and grammar.2Before COVID-19, self-care — caring for ourselves — may have not been a priority for many people. 6. . There is no exact way to practice self-care. It includes many areas and may look different from person to person. Here are some suggestions on what can be done. 7. For some people, self-care may be simply slowing down. It can also mean controlling parts of your life that you can control. This is important when the world around you feels out of control.Learn something newFor some people, self-care might include doing things they have always wanted to do but never made time for. 8. .Mental health self-careAnother form of self-care is making time to meet with a mental health specialist, if needed. The Associated Press reports that online mental health services have increased during the pandemic. However, meeting with a mental health professional may not be possible for some people. 9. . Meditating, writing about your feelings and problems, and organizing the physical space around you are all forms of self-care.Be kind to yourself — the best type of self-careExperts remind us that self-care during the pandemic could feel like riding a rollercoaster — up some days, down on others. It can help to have a routine — a usual way of doing things. But experts say keep the routine simple. 10. . Remember, be kind to yourself.A. Never feel out of controlB. Slow down and feel in controlC. But now it is even more important than usualD. So doctors have suggestions for other ways to reduce stress during the pandemicE.Self-care includes both individual wellness and the wellness of the greater communityF.It is also important not to be hard on yourself if you do not keep to your routine every dayG.These things include baking, gardening, and learning a new language or some other new skills3It is quite natural that we all have our down time to readjust but it is fairly important that consistency should be a regular practice in our world. It feels good to set a goal, work through it and see the amazing outcome. 11. .Create a plan. Whatever your goal is, a plan is important. Create yearly, monthly, weekly and daily tasks to help you stay focused on your specific goal.Schedule.12. . Yes, things will come up, but we all have the same 24 hours in a day. You have to schedule your consistency tasks just like you schedule anything else, even if you start off at 30 minutes a day and add from there.13. . Your future is your priority (优先的事物).Stick to it.Don’t quit. 14. . Now that you have come so far, it doesn't make sense to give up on yourself. There is a dream planted inside of you. It is time to do the work and watch it grow. 15 .Look back to see how far you've come. Look over your goals and accomplishments daily, weekly and monthly to see how much you have completed. Get your crew and celebrate.A. Measure your outcomeB. Do things that appeal to youC. You can put things in order of importanceD. Sometimes we need to have a break to reflectE.Here are some useful tips to help you stay consistencyF.It is actually inspiring to have something that is pushing youG.As is often the case, our biggest excuse is that we don't have time4Many people truly want to help a friend who is in pain. But words often fail us at times like these, leaving us stammering (结巴) for the right thing to say. Some people are so afraid to say or do the wrong thing that they choose to do nothing at all.16. There’s no one perfect way to respond or to support someone you care about, but there are some good ground rules.17. You are not supposed to be a central figure when your friend feels sad. You may say you would have done things differently if this unlucky thing had happened to you. Of course, I hope you don’t get the chance to find out. The unhappiness belongs to your friend. So follow their lead.Keep in mind that being with someone who is in pain isn’t easy. Your friend cannot show up for their part of the relationship very well, and you will likely get hurt. Don’t take it personally.18. In fact, one of the best things you can do for a friend in sorrow is to forecast their needs. Don’t say, “Call me if there’s anything I can do,” because your friend will not call. What you should do is to make concrete offers: “I will stop by each morning on my way to work and take your dog for a quick walk.” Then show up and do it.19. Hug your friend, rub their back, and touch their arm. Comfort them with small physical gestures that let them know you care and calm them.Give them hope. Give your friend hope that things will eventually get better.20. A. Show your love.B. Keep your friend at ease.C. Instead, please be tolerant of them.D. Remember to play a supporting role.E.After all, the future will be full of hope.F.Their heart will heal and life will go on.G.That’s certainly an option, but it’s not often a good one.5National Napping Day: reasons you should nap.Finding the time to recover among daily responsibilities can be hard, but napping has benefits that could help you level up in your overall health and productivity. 21. In other words, if you feel like calling it a day and feeling sleepy, don’t feel bad. 22. Taking a nap once or twice a week could lower the risk of heart attacks or strokes, according to a study published in the journal Heart. After tracking more than 3,400 people between the ages of 35 and 75 for slightly more than five years, the researchers found that those who liked occasional napping -once or twice a week, for five minutes to an hour-were 48% less likely to experience a heart attack, stroke or heart failure than those who didn’t nap at all. It might even help you get into shape. A 2020 study focusing on women found the more sleep-deprived (失眠) the women were, the more likely they were to consume added sugar, fatty foods and caffeine. 23. That’s because inadequate sleep is believed to stimulate hunger and suppress hormone signals that communicate fullness. Napping has been found to boost your creativity. 24. In a January 2020 study of 2,214 Chinese adults ages 60 and older, participants who took afternoon naps for five minutes to two hours showed better mental ability than those who didn’t nap. Napping may not ensure success in every aspect of your life, but it could improve your health and charge your brain's batteries. 25. A. Now go lie down.B. You'll have lower risk for heart problems.C. Taking a nap may make your brain more alert.D. A lack of quality sleep could lead to overeating.E.A short nap may also make you feel more relaxed.F.The right side of your brain may experience a mental spark during a nap.G.It means there is no reason to feel as if you’re lazy for taking a quick nap.6Trying to find the perfect present is as difficult as trying to read someone's mind. Few people will actually tell you what they want for a special occasion, and most of the time your loved ones will insist that they don't need or want anything! 26. Here are some tips that could help. Be honest - do you wait until the last minute to start looking for presents? 27. So are we! However, starting your shopping early can have a number of advantages. The closer it gets to holidays such as Christmas, the higher the prices creep up. So, if you wait too long, you might have to spend quite a bit more on what you want. 28. Now is the time to put your thinking cap on as you make a list. Here, you can write down everything the receivers love. This can include food, hobbies, experiences, and more 29. If you are lucky, you should be able to find a few good ideas in one of these lists. At the very least, you will have some ideas of which direction you should head off in. 30. Often, the reason you get stuck for gift ideas is because you are restricting yourself too much. If you are only fixed on the same kind of presents then you'll run out of inspiration. There really are many wonderful out - of - the - box ideas to select from. If a regular present isn't doing the trick, it may be time to think a little bigger. Instead of a physical gift, you can give someone an experience that they will never forget.A. So what to do?B. You are definitely not alone.C. Save your money by being an early bird.D. You will be able to give them the gift of friendship.E.If you are still coming up empty, it is time to get creative.F.What memory between the two of you stand out the most?G.Once you have done this, you can move onto the things they need.7Over the past ten months of pandemic life, cooking has become a shelter for me. New York Times food editor Sam Sifton referred to Korean fried rice and said it "improves moods, atmospheres and weeks alike". 31. I'd argue it improves physical health, finances and skills, and reduces stress. Really, cooking is a rewarding thing you should do these days.Cooking food for yourself is beneficial to your physical health. When you cook your own food, you control exactly what goes into your body. It's the best possible way to “dial in” or clean up your diet. 32. A recent survey has found that twice as many Americans are cooking at home than a year ago, and that nearly a quarter are doing so in an effort to eat healthier.33. It's considerably cheaper than ordering from restaurants, or buying prepared food from supermarkets. It's found that ordering takeout is five times more expensive. The difference is more obvious if you’re cooking for a family. In terms of improving cooking skill, you can't help but improve if you do it over and over again. With so many other outlets for hobbies shut down right now, why not view your kitchen as a mini universe to be explored? You've got the tools, not to mention the human requirement to eat. I can't think of another hobby where your body physically requires you to practice several times daily. 34. How does cooking relieve stress, you might be wondering? 35. If you're organized enough to cook meals in advance, you end the weeknight dilemma of “what's for dinner?”. Furthermore, as you get better at cooking, you will spare the need to order food.A. Cooking helps kids develop many hobbies.B. Actually, cooking can bring more benefits.C. The act itself can be calming to some people.D. From a financial aspect, cooking cannot be beaten.E.You can save money as well as improve your mental health.F.If improving health is your main reason for cooking, you're not alone.G.You're likely to improve your cooking skills and they will stick with you for life.8How to Feel ConnectedIt's easy to feel disconnected from what is going on around you in today's fast-paced world. 36. You can get in touch and feel connected, however, by following the tips below:Consider why you feel disconnected. Knowing what is making you feel disconnected can help you choose the best ways to address it. 37. Ask yourself these questions: Are you keeping yourself occupied with work too much? Do you rely on electronic communication instead of face to face communication? Do you lack friendships that are satisfying?Interact with people in person. Technology is a great way to stay in touch, but sometimes you need to spend time with other people in person. 38. You can also take steps to feel more connected by making small-talk with strangers who are sharing parts of your day.39. Your loved ones could feel shy, so you may never know how to improve your relationship unless you ask the right questions. Asking them to open the doors can give you some insight on what you can do. Learning this information can help to strengthen your bond.Show your commitment to them. Simply showing up and being there for your loved ones says a lot about how much you value your relationships. Putting in the time shows them that you are committed and want to stay connected. 40. Show appreciation. A simple “thank you” goes a very long way. Unfortunately, it is something that people who are close often take for granted. Telling someone you appreciate their time, love, and efforts can strengthen your bond and help you to become more connected.A. Ask others what they need from you.B. Sometimes you can feel isolated and distant from the ones you love.C. Be brave to express your love.D. Reach out to people to schedule a time to get together.E.Attending family events, or simply visiting someone once a week can help to strengthen your relationship and keep it strong.F.Targeting your efforts toward those issues allows you to close that distance more effectively.G.You can have a gift delivered to friends on special occasions.
