Last night ne f my Chinese friends tk me t a cncert f Chinese flk music. The piece which was played n the erhu especially mved me. The music was strangely beautiful, but under the beauty I sensed a strng sadness and pain.

The erhusunded s sad that I almst cried alng with it as I listened. Later I lked up the histry f Erquan Yingyue, and I began t understand the sadness in the music.
