An easily bidegradable(可生物降解的) material that culd be “part f a glbal answer” t singleuse plastic pllutin has wn its inventr, British designer Lucy Hughes, the internatinal James Dysn Award.
Hughes' Marina Tex biplastic is strng and flexible, making it a pssible alternative fr singleuse packaging such as bags and sandwich wrappers. Its key ingredients are fish scales and skin, s it can break dwn in hme fd waste r cmpst bins.
Hughes created Marina Tex fr her finalyear prject in the prduct design curse at the University f Sussex. She had set ut t create smething using waste rather than unused materials, which led her t the UK's fishing industry. She ran mre than 100 experiments t imprve the biplastic mixture, mstly using the kitchen stve in her student accmmdatin.
The fish scales and skin remved during prcessing usually end up burnt r buried in landfill. And with “abut 500,000 tnnes f such waste prduced by the cuntry's fisheries annually”, it seems pssible that Marina Tex culd be used largely in industrial prductin. The material is lwenergy t prduce and desn't cnsume the earth's natural resurces cnsidering it's based n existing waste. It is als strng, basting a higher tensile(可拉伸的) strength than the current material mst cmmnly used fr plastic bags.
British inventr James Dysn, wh every year selects the grand prize winner in the internatinal student design cmpetitin that bears his name, said that the material had the ptential t replace traditinal singleuse plastics. “Marina Tex elegantly slves tw prblems: the ubiquity(无处不在) f singleuse plastics and fish waste,” he said. “Further research and develpment will ensure that Marina Tex evlves further, and I hpe it becmes part f a glbal answer t the abundance f singleuse plastic waste.”

Dr. Faisal Zawawi, an Otlarynglgist and member f the McGill Auditry Sciences Labratry, ntes that when a persn is expsed t lud nises, it can cause shrtterm hearing lss but that under nrmal circumstances the bdy typically is able t repair the lss f hearing within 72 hurs. Hwever, Zawawi warns that if symptms are nt reversed(倒转) in the first 72 hurs the damage culd becme permanent. Due t findings in previus studies abut it, Zawawi says that the team f researchers has suspected that smething may stp this repair prcess. Therefre, the team set ut t determine if caffeine culd be a cntributing cause t hearing lss. Accrding t the Medical Daily, the researchers tested what they suspected n female guinea pigs (FGP)(豚鼠).
T perfrm the test, 24 female guinea pigs were split int three equal grups with each grup expsed in different levels t caffeine, and lud nise. The researchers fund that the guinea pigs subjected t nly sund had their full hearing recvered by day eight. Hwever, the guinea pigs that were subjected t bth caffeine and lud nise never fully regained their hearing. Therefre, the researchers cncluded that caffeine is a likely cntributing cause t permanent hearing lss.
“This research cnfirms that while a cup f cffee may seem appealing after a lng night at a lud cncert, drinking caffeine prduces mre f a risk than benefit when it cmes t a persn's hearing. Althugh further research is required t understand the effects n humans, the results are prmising,” says Zawawi. If the research prves successful, the remval f caffeine frm yur diet fllwing nise expsure culd prevent permanent hearing lss as the bdy will be mre able t repair itself naturally.

C. The cntinuus nise expsure surely causes it.
D. The temprary hearing lss will becme permanent after 3 days.

Languages have been cming and ging fr thusands f years, but in recent times there has been less cming and a lt mre ging. When the wrld was still ppulated by huntergatherers, small, tightly knit cnnected grups develped their wn patterns f speech independent f each ther. At present, the wrld has abut 6,800 languages. The distributin f these languages is hugely uneven. The general rule is that mild znes have relatively few languages, ften spken by many peple, while ht, wet znes have lts, ften spken by small numbers. Eurpe has nly arund 200 languages; the Americas abut 1,000; Africa 2,400; and Asia and the Pacific perhaps 3,200, f which Papua New Guinea alne accunts fr well ver 800. The median number(中位数) f speakers is a mere 6,000, which means that half the wrld's languages are spken by fewer peple than that.
Already well ver 400 f the ttal f 6,800 languages are clse t extinctin, with nly a few elderly speakers left. Pick, at randm, Busuu in Camern (eight remaining speakers), Chiapanec in Mexic (150), Lipan Apache in the United States (tw r three) r Wadjigu in Australia (ne, with a questinmark): nne f these seems t have much chance f survival.

C. They were large in number.D. They were clsely cnnected.
34. Which f the fllwing best explains “dminant” underlined in Paragraph 2?
A. Mdern. B. Pwerful.C. Cmplex.D. Advanced.
35. Hw many languages are spken by less than 6,000 peple at present?
A. Abut 6,800.B. Abut 1,200.
C. Abut 3,400. D. Abut 2,400.
