展开Period Four Writing
Ⅰ.阅读理解
A
It was only on my third visit to Canberra, Australia that I managed to step into a unique corner of the city, Cockington Green Garden. When I entered this little world of miniatures(微缩模型),I experienced what Gulliver must have felt in Lilliput(小人国).
The miniature buildings are built exactly to scale(按比例).The trees and gardens are all real but small. Even the grass is real. One can imagine how much hard work goes into keeping such a place, just to keep everything small!
Some scenes are entertaining. I laughed as I spotted someone “falling” into a waterway, and I felt it was so funny as my attention was brought to the split(口子) in a rider’s pants as he struggled to balance himself on a horse. As one moves on,one will come across a soccer field—with a game in progress! There is even a variety of miniature trains…and they have a railway track to travel on too! I walked into the Rose Walk and had a cool time enjoying a variety of roses that lined the covered passage. I was so impressed by many of the two-coloured roses that I forgot to count how many different ones there were.
It led me to the Rose Room where one can see displays of a different kind—miniature dolls and doll houses. There is a private collection of dolls in traditional dress from around the world.
After visiting miniature villages while on holiday in the UK, the founders, Doug and Brenda Sarah, were inspired to develop a similar display in Australia. Other family members were talked into participating in the project, and it took many years of painstaking work before Cockington Green was opened to the public in 1979.When celebrating its 25 years of operation in November 2005,the Garden won recognition with a National Tourism Award,as well as receiving many local tourism industry awards. Today, this theme park is still family-owned,with four generations involved in its running.

Opened in 1971, the Magic Kingdom was the first theme park at Walt Disney World. All Disney World theme parks are open 365 days a year, although opening and closing times for each park are different from day to day. If you are travelling without kids, try to visit it on a school day to avoid the largest crowds. If you need to visit it during a school vacation, try at least to avoid the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day and the Fourth of July.
If you are not staying at a Disney World hotel, avoid visiting the Magic Kingdom on its Extra Magic Hours days. The hotel guests get into the park early on those days, increasing the waiting time for visitors who arrive at the normal opening time.
Buy your Walt Disney World tickets online at Disney World’s website. There will be some advice on picking the right ticket. See the guide to Disney World tickets. You will also need to call in advance to make lunch or dinner reservations(预订). Disney accepts reservations, through 1-407-WDW-DINE, up to 180 days in advance. Time does pass quickly, so you should call six months before your trip to get a lunch reservation in the castle. We suggest you should have your lunch at Cinderella’s Royal Table for your tour. If you can’t get the reservation, ask for the Liberty Tree Tavern instead.
Keep in mind that to reach the Magic Kingdom, you must park at Disney World’s Transportation and Ticket Centre (TTC) parking lot, take a tram(有轨电车), and then take a boat across the Seven Seas Lagoon to the Magic Kingdom.
( )5.We can learn from the passage that .
A.children are not allowed to visit Disney World on New Year’s Day

C.use 1-407-WDW-DINE to reserve about three months in advance
D.go to Cinderella’s Royal Table or the Liberty Tree Tavern at any time you like
( )7.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.Disney World theme parks will be closed on Christmas Day.
B.The only way to get Walt Disney World tickets is to buy them online.
C.Visitors have to reach the Magic Kingdom by tram and then boat.
D.The Magic Kingdom has Extra Magic Hours every day.

第二节 读后续写
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。
It is hot in late July in Washington, D.C.Lisa was familiar with the heat waves. Every summer she and her brother Jamal came to stay with their grandmother for the month of July.
It was a hot afternoon. Suddenly it occurred to Lisa that there might be some secrets in the attic(阁楼), so she decided to take a look around there.
Up in the attic, Lisa found everything was covered in a fine layer(层) of dust. The heat in the house rose upwards. Lisa thought briefly about turning around and heading downstairs. But something pushed her to investigate the attic further. She had the sense that in these dusty boxes something important was waiting for her.
As Lisa began going through the boxes, she came across a picture of a pretty girl with “Maud” written across the bottom. She stared at the photograph. Maud was her grandmother, and it was hard to believe that the wrinkled woman downstairs had been this laughing, lovely girl.
“Lisa honey!” she heard her grandmother call. “Come take a break and have some tea.”Lisa went downstairs and took the picture with her. “Grandma, is this really you?”
Her grandmother laughed. “What, you can’t believe it? Yes, that’s me; it was taken almost sixty years ago.”
“You’d be surprised, Lisa,” her grandmother responded. “Adults, all of us, were once young and irresponsible like you.”
“I don’t think Mum was ever like that…”said Lisa. She couldn’t imagine her strict, hard-working mother doing anything slightly irresponsible. Her mother held the family together and took care of Lisa and Jamal.
“Your mother…”her grandmother’s voice faded(逐渐消失) as she carefully chose her words. “When your father died in the service, your mother was just a girl herself. You were a baby, and Jamal was only two. She had to grow up real fast. She loves you two so much, and that’s why she’s so strict.”
Lisa nodded. She knew her grandmother was right. Lisa finished her tea, thanked her grandmother, and turned to go back upstairs.
Paragraph 1:
“Lisa” her grandmother called, as Lisa climbed the stairs. “There’s a box of your parents’ things in the corner up there.”
Paragraph 2:
Opening the first letter, she looked through until she saw her father’s signature: Daryl.

第二节
One possible version:
“Lisa” her grandmother called, as Lisa climbed the stairs. “There’s a box of your parents’ things in the corner up there.” Hearing this, Lisa thought maybe it would help her better understand her mother. She looked through several of the boxes before she found the one her grandmother had mentioned. It was smaller than the others, with “Laura”, her mother’s name written on it. When she opened the box, she found a lot of old letters.
Opening the first letter, she looked through until she saw her father’s signature: Daryl. These were love letters between her father and her mother. Lisa’s father had been in the service when he first met her mother, and they wrote to each other regularly. Lisa read through the letters. Her mother was humorous and charming in the letters. It was a side of her mother that Lisa had never seen before. She was full of hope about the life that they would have together when he returned. Lisa took these letters downstairs. “Grandma,” Lisa asked, “will it be okay with mum if I read the letters?”“Oh, honey,”said her grandmother. “She was the one who asked me to show them to you.”
