情态动词主要有:may / might, can / culd, shall / shuld, have t, must, will / wuld, ught t, need, dare, used t.(1) 不能独立作谓语,只能和动词原形一起构成谓语,表示说话人的 语气和情态。(2) 没有人称和数的变化 。(have t 除外)(3) 否定形式:在其之后加nt 。(have t 除外) 疑问形式:情态动词提到主语之前。 (have t 除外)
2. 情态动词Can的常见用法:
(1) 表示能力:情态动词can一般指体力、知识、技能等方面的能力,即“能够;会”。如:My brther can swim but I can’t. 哥哥会游泳,但是我不会。(2) 表示许可:多用在口语中,表示请求或允许,意为“可以;能够”等。用于疑问句中用来提出要求,用于否定句中表示不允许。如:Can I use yur pen? 我可以用你的钢笔吗?
(3) 表示推测:情态动词can表示推测时,常用于否定句或疑问句,意为“(不)可能”。用于肯定句中表示理论上的可能性,意为“有时会”。如: It can be very cld here in spring. 这里的春天有时可能会非常冷。
(4) 表示邀请:情态动词can除了表示能力、许可或猜测之外,还可以表示邀请;culd较can更礼貌、委婉。表示邀请时的用法如下:① 当用情态动词can发出邀请时,用一般疑问句 Can+主语+动词原形+其他?如:Can yu cme t my party? 你能来参加我的聚会吗?
② 当用情态动词can发出邀请时,其回答分为两类。一类表示接受邀请,另一类表示拒绝邀请。如:Sure, I’d lve t. 当然,我很乐意。 Sure, I think he she will. 当然,我想她会的。Srry. I’m nt available. 对不起,我没有空。I’d lve t, but I’m afraid I can’t. 我很乐意去,但是恐怕我不能去。
3. can 与 may
(1) 都可表示“许可” 。may用于较正式、客气的场合,而can比较随便(口语)。如:Yu may / can sit here.The pliceman says yu can’t park here.(2) May / Can I…? 表示征询对方许可。Can yu…? 表示请求。— May I use yur phne? — N, yu can’t. / N, yu mustn’t.
(3) 都可表示“可能性”:① 肯定句 Mr Read lks pale. He may be ill. (事实上的可能) Mr Read is in pr health. He can be ill at any time. (逻辑、理论上的可能)
② 否定句 This news may nt be true. (也许不 = might nt ) This news can’t be true. (不可能 = culdn’t)③ 疑问句 Can this news be true? ( = Culd) ≠ May this news be true?
4. have t 的用法
(1) have t 的意思是“必须、不得不”, 往往强调由于客观原因而必须做某事。have (has) t 后面要用动词原形。当主语为第三人称单数时用 has t,当句子是过去时用 had t。如:He has t wrk n Sunday. 他不得不在周日工作。(2) have t 的否定句句型:主语 + dn’t / didn’t / desn’t / wn’t + have t + 动词原形。如:Yu dn’t have t walk s fast. 你不必走那么快。
(3) have t 的疑问句句型:D / Des / Did / Will + 主语 + have t + 动词原形。如:— Did he have t ask the questin? —他非要问那个问题吗?— Yes, he did. —是的。— N, he didn’t (have t). —不。
