四、阅读理解
In some movies, you might see people traveling between cities in tubes (胶囊). These “tube trains” are even faster than planes. People can get to one place from another in minutes. One US company is working to make these trains a reality (现实).
Virgin Hyperloop is now building its own tube trains. On Nov 8, the company said that it had successfully tested its tube trains for the first time, the BBC reported. In the test, two people traveled down a 500-meter test track (轨道) in 15 seconds. They got to a speed of about 160 km per hour.
However, this isn’t the final (最终的) goal of the company. It hopes to make tube trains that can get to a speed of 1,000 km per hour, CBS News noted.
But who gets the idea? Elon Musk, founder (创始人) of US space company SpaceX, suggested building tube trains back in 2013. He said people could sit in small pods (分离舱) and travel in tubes. The company would use magnets (磁力) to move the pods.
According to Musk, the pods would be able to move quickly because they would be floating (悬浮) on air inside the tube. There would be very little fiction (摩擦力) to slow them down.
