    During the students describing the pictures, pay attentin t use ‘was’ and ‘were’ t cnslidate the past cntinuus tense.
    STEP 4 Describing the picture
    Describe the picture in general questins and give them psitive and negative answers. Practice in pairs. Write the tw kinds f answers n the Bb.

    STEP 5 Practicing the dialgue
    After finishing describing the nine pictures, practice the dialgue like this.
    T: What was David ding last night at eight last night?

    Practice in pairs. Let them chse any picture they want.
    STEP 6 Cmpleting Part A1
    Get the students t cmplete Part A1, Page 99. Check the answers in pairs and in class. Explain the main phrases in the dialgue e.g. ‘discuss … with…’ and ‘plan a trip t’. Get them t read the dialgue alud.
    Ask the students sme questin t ffer them mre chance fr practice.
    STEP 7 Finishing the dialgue
    Finish the dialgue in Part A2, and then check the answers. Explain sme the main phrases like ‘see…ding’ and ‘as usual’.

    Explain that Mr. and Mrs. Su had a car accident during the snwstrm. Ask students t lk at the tw reprts n Page 102 and explain that the reprt frm in Part A1 is frm the 110 htline where as the reprt in Part A2 is made by the plicemen after they rescued Mr. and Mrs. Su.
    Explain the items in the reprt frm and make sure that they can understand it.
    STEP 5 Playing the tape tw times
    Play the tape tw times fr the students t find as much infrmatin as pssible. And then fill in the reprt frm. And f curse, it is impssible fr them t cmplete the table by listening.
    Get them t read the rept belw and find mre infrmatin.
    (One thing t mentin here is that the teacher can als get students t understand hw the victims thrugh their vice. If pssible, get them t imitate it. )

    (It will be better if the teacher can cllect sme reprts n disasters r bad weather frm newspapers r magazines. In this step, the teacher may try t input mre infrmatin abut the disasters and help students t talk abut it.)
    STEP 2 Listen t the tape
    Explain that Sandy and Amy are talking abut a natural disaster. Invite them t listen t the tape and try t answer the questins.
    With the help f these questins, it will be easier fr students t fcus n the key infrmatin e.g. in Britain, last week, heavy strm, thunder and lightening, terrible, schl caught fire, n ne was hurt, students n hliday. They will als help them t rganize their wn dialgue.
    STEP 3 Reading the dialgue again
    Get the students t read the dialgue alud. Direct the students attentin t the intnatin f different sentences. We use a rising tne fr general questins. We use falling tnes fr ‘wh-’ questins r statements. Get the students t read the dialgue again. Pay special attentin t the intnatin patterns used here. Then give the students several minutes fr the students t practice and act.

    Get them t talk abut a disaster. They can chse what the wuld like and try t make a new dialgue.
    Offer them enugh time t practice and then get them t act their wn dialgue ut in frnt f the
