Should Children Do Housework?
Many parents do not tend to let their children do housework because they want their children to focus on their studies. This thought must be changed. Doing housework brings many benefits to children. Firstly, housework builds children’s responsibility with household. Secondly, housework builds children’s empathy. After doing housework, children tend to be more helpful and care for the other family members. Finally, doing housework gives children a sense of satisfaction and pride. Therefore, they also may have a higher level of self-confidence. In a word, children can get many benefits from doing housework.

英语听力模拟试题
Text 1
M: This restaurant is well-known for its beef noodles. I had it last time. Today, I want to try the fish soup. (1) Do you want the same thing?
W: I want to try it, but I can’t eat fish. I’ll have the chicken pie instead.
Text 2
M: Have you always lived in America?
W: No, I was born in England and grew up in Germany. We moved here because of my dad’s work. (2)
Text 3
W: The weather report says there will be heavy snow in the coming few days.
M: I’d better go to the supermarket to get some food then.
W: You’re right. Let’s do it together. (3)
Text 4
M: I don’t like Monday mornings. The first two lessons are physics. (4) My brain isn’t ready for that after the weekend.
W: Haven’t you heard? Our physics teacher is off this week. We’re having French first, then English.
M: Well, I suppose that is a slight improvement.
Text 5
M: This meeting room used to only have space for 20 people.
W: Are you sure? There are at least 10 more people than that here today.
M: Yes, but we have made it larger. We can now have double the number of people than before. (5)
Text 6 (第6题为推断题)
M: I’m looking to buy an electric guitar, but I only have $100.
W: I’m afraid we don’t have any at that price.
M: Where would you recommend I try?
W: You might find one in a charity store. Or if you search online, someone might be selling one used.
M: I was hoping to get a new one.
W: I’m afraid our cheapest electric guitar starts at $300.
M: What about a regular guitar? (7)
W: It’s $200. (7)
M: OK, I’ll take one. (7) I might need to go to the bank to draw some more money.
W: We offer a payment plan where you pay over four months.
Text 7
M: When was the last time you rode that bike? (8)
W: Almost 10 years ago. (8) I just dug it out from the basement(地下室).
M: Well, it looks pretty old and worn out, but I guess it should be OK to ride.
W: If you say so, you’re an expert. Didn’t you use to sell bikes?
M: Yes, just for two years while I was in university. I did it as a part-time job, but I learned a lot. I can even fix bikes on my own if it’s just a small problem. Anyway, where do you want to go? (9)
W: I don’t know. Maybe we could ride to Regent’s Park or London Fields.
M: They are too far. Both are more than 45 minutes from here. We could go to Victoria Park instead. (9) That would be about 15 minutes.
W: OK. Let’s go there then. (9)
Text 8
W: You said that your father owned this shop? My father sold shoes and his shop looked very similar to this one. (10)
M: Yes, although he retired many years ago. Business started going down when people started looking at phones and TVs to get to know the time instead of clocks on the wall. He also tried making watches, but that did not work either.
W: What are you going to do with the shop? (11)
M: Well, that’s the problem. When I see this place, I feel a bit lost. I don’t know whether to sell it, or rent it to somebody.
W: Maybe you can use it yourself. (11) (12)
M: What do you mean?
W: You can sell all the equipment and start your own business. You said you want to have your own clothing store.
M: Yeah, good idea. (12)
Text 9 (第13题为总结题)
M: On today’s TV show, we will be discussing climate change. Our guest today is Professor Quinn. (14)
W: Thank you for having me. (14)
M: People are obviously concerned about climate change.
W: And they should be. At our current rate, the average global temperature could rise by up to 6 ℃ by the year 2100.
M: So what can we do to stop that rise?
W: We need to take action right away, both big and small. (15)
M: So what small actions can people take? (15)
W: Recycle more. Use less plastic. Use your car less. (15)
M: How do these actions help then?
W: They will reduce the amount of greenhouse gases that we produce.
M: And will doing these actions be enough to reduce it?
W: Not until everybody does it, including large companies and organizations.
M: Some people have been doing these actions for years. Have we seen any change?
W: Yes, but not a positive one. Between 1990 and 2010, all continents recorded a growth in greenhouse gas production, except Europe. (16)
M: Why, what happened in Europe? (16)
W: They saw a 23% decrease, (16) compared to America which had an 11% increase, and Australia which had a 22% increase.
M: What reasons were behind this?
W: Europe has used renewable(可再生的) energy a lot.
★ 可再生能源(renewable energy)是指风能、太阳能、水能、地热能等非化石能源,是绿色低碳能源,对于改善能源结构、保护生态环境、应对气候变化、实现经济社会可持续发展具有重要意义。
Text 10
Good morning, I’d like to talk to you about my charity — ReBicycle. But before I do, let me introduce someone. This is Leila Rahimi. (17) (18) (19) When she first moved to New Zealand from her homeland, America, (17) she was so scared that she would spend days working up the courage to walk to the supermarket for basic supplies. After a few months, she was invited to join a local bike club. The only problem was that she didn’t have a bike. This is when ReBicycle offered a helping hand and gave Leila a second-hand bicycle. (18) After that, she became less anxious as she started to cycle. The bicycle completely changed her life, giving her hope and a true sense of freedom.
Until now, ReBicycle has donated more than 200 bikes to those in need. With a bike, you can travel farther but for almost no cost. I know someone who used to walk three hours a day to and from English language lessons. That has been reduced to just one hour by cycling. We are now offering more bike-riding lessons as demand has increased. (19) Our bike-riding lessons are so successful that we are looking for more volunteers. So if any of you have some free time during the weekend, please come join us at ReBicycle and make a difference in someone’s life. (20)
