My favorite is the Spring Festival. It’s the most important festival of the year. The entire celebration lasts for fifteen days. But I usually spend a week with my family celebrating it. It starts on the first day of the lunar new year and ends on the Lantern Festival. People in China have been celebrating the Spring Festival as far back as the Shang Dynasty, over 3,000 years ago.
My elder sister loves the Lantern Festival best. It falls on the last day of the Spring Festival. This festival first came about during the Han Dynasty. Lanterns were lit in honor of Buddha. Other traditions on this day include guessing riddles, eating rice dumplings, the lion dance and the dragon dance.
My younger brother loves the Dragon Boat Festival most. This festival dates all the way back to the Warring States Period of the Zhou Dynasty. Legend has it that a famous poet named Qu Yuan killed himself on this day by jumping into the river when he learned that his homeland was lost. This festival is held in honor of him. Dragon boat races are popular on this day.

    阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
    A
Even as e-readers become common, nothing will ever compete with a good old-fashioned book. Explore some amazing bookstores and libraries around the world that make reading a truly artful experience.
    Boekhandel Selexyz Dominicanen
The Boekhandel Selexyz Dominicanen in Maastricht, the Netherlands, is a bookstore built in a church. Instead of allowing this old Gotliic church to fall into disrepair, it was purchased by a bookseller and restored to its original glory. It might be the world’s most beautiful bookstore. The walls, arches and ceilings of the original building are restored, while the bookstore rises from its center.
    El Ateneo Grand Splendid
A historical theater in Buenos Aires is now one of the city’s most exciting bookstores, the El Ateneo Grand Splendid. While it no longer houses performances of Argentina’s national dance, the tango, it is now home to thousands of books. The character of the original architecture remains while the red theater curtains still hang at stage left and right. It keeps a strong sense of Argentina’s history while still selling culture, book-by-book.
    Liyuan Library
In a village outside of Beijing, China, a small library hides amongst the trees in a quiet setting. The Liyuan Library is wrapped in recycled branches. Indoors, three levels of books and reading spaces are available for the occasional guests. Perhaps the most impressive thing is the open design that allows in light from nearby every direction.
    A47 Mobile Library
Why will you go to the library when it can come to you? The A47 Mobile Library is a library on wheels that travels around Mexico City bringing books to the public. Just keep your eye on the late fees, as this is one library that can actually track you down for late payments.
    21. What can you do at El Ateneo Grand Splendid besides buying books?
    A. Experience how books are recycled.
    B. Enjoy the original architecture.
    C. Watch a live performance of tango.
    D. Get a knowledge of the national dance.
    22. What’s special about Liyuan Library?

    D. A47 Mobile Library.
    【答案】21. B 22. C 23. D

Nicholas Muchemi is a coffee and tea farmer in the Kenyan village of Kaganda. When he saw the people in his village struggling to plan their long and winding roads, he took it upon himself to make a shortcut. He used his own tools to carve out a new quarter-mile stretch (路段) of road in the area.
Before Machemi started his labor of love, the villagers were forced to take a much longer route around the steep hills. However, now the children use new “Muchemi Road” to get to school. The mothers travel shorter distances to get to the nearby market, and the neighbors can easily hike to the church.
Every day for several long summer weeks, Muchemi would finish his daily farm work and spend each of his evenings building the road.
Once it was finished, Muchemi said that he was not expecting to receive anything in return, but the neighbors were quick to shower him with appreciation. Not only that, the government thanked the brave and generous farmer by giving him a new cow and a roof for his house. They have also promised to maintain(维修) the road in his honor. When he was asked about why he did it,Muchemi simply said, “ I was born with the ability to do this. I also love what I do and I like helping my community (社区). I’m an adult and I should do what I can to help people and solve their problems.”
“ I feel overjoyed that I could do something to make other people happy!” he concluded with a big smile.

What are vegans (严格素食主义者) and what do they really eat? How does a vegan diet compare to a meat eating diet? Which diet is truly healthier? Join us as we explore the differences between vegans and meat eaters and try to find out who will live longest, vegans or meat eaters?
We’ve all experienced it. We invite a friend to dinner, only to learn that she is the dreaded V-word. We have a vague sense of what it means, but we’re left with so many questions. Is it healthier?
We are curious about the health differences between vegans and their meat-eating friends, who eat both plants and animals.
At this point, some of you may be wondering which diet leads to longer life spans (寿命). For that information, we turn to Okinawa. The traditional Okinawan diet is typically regarded as the best for health and longevity, with the Okinawan islands having the greatest concentration of centenarians (百岁老人) in the world.
Okinawa has about 740 centenarians out of its population of 1.3 million people. While their diets have been changing recently due to globalization and fast food chains, the traditional Okinawan diet is made up of large amounts of plant-based carbohydrates (碳水化合物).
Although they are primarily vegans, traditional Okinawans still eat meat on special occasions, usually pork, as well as small amounts of fish on a weekly basis. This doesn’t prove that small amounts of animal products are vital to good health, but it does mean that the best human diet can be achieved without going completely vegan.
Many health organizations state that well-planned vegan diets are healthy and nutritionally adequate, and may provide health benefits in the prevention and treatment of certain diseases.
It seems like no matter what your dietary preferences are, a healthy lifestyle can be achieved on or off a vegan diet.
    28. What can we infer about meat eaters from the passage?
    A. They prefer eating meat. B. They eat all or everything.
    C. They mainly live on meat. D. They live an unhealthy life.
    29. Which is the traditional Okinawan diet like?
    A. It’s mostly a vegan diet. B. It remains the same as before.
    C. It only includes vegetables. D. It’s the healthiest diet-
    30. What’s the author’s attitude towards vegans?
    A. Subjective. B. Opposed.
    C. Objective. D. Uncertain.
    31. What’s the best title for the passage?
    A. VEGANS vs MEAT EATERS — Who Will Live Longer
    B. WHITE MEAT vs RED MEAT — Which Is Healthier
    C. OKINAWA — the Most Populated Place of Centenarians
    D. VEGETABLES — the Healthiest Food for you
    【答案】28. B 29. A 30. C 31. A
    【解析】
    【分析】本文说明文。文章分析了素食者和肉食者的饮食,哪一种饮食更有利健康和长寿。作者认为无论是那种饮食习惯,健康的生活方式都可以。
    【28题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“We are curious about the health differences between vegans and their meat-eating friends, who eat both plants and animals.(我们很好奇素食主义者和他们的食肉朋友之间的健康差异,后者既吃植物也吃动物)”可知,肉食者吃所有东西,故选B。
    【29题详解】
细节理解题。根据第五段的“the traditional Okinawan diet is made up of large amounts of plant-based carbohydrates(传统的冲绳饮食由大量植物碳水化合物组成)”以及第六段的“Although they are primarily vegans, traditional Okinawans still eat meat on special occasions(虽然他们主要是纯素食者,但传统的冲绳岛人仍然在特殊场合吃肉)”可知,传统的冲绳饮食主要是素食,故选A。
    【30题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“It seems like no matter what your dietary preferences are, a healthy lifestyle can be achieved on or off a vegan diet.(无论你的饮食偏好是什么,是不是素食,生活方式健康都可以)”可知,作者对纯素食者的态度是客观的,故选C。
    【31题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第一段提出的问题和最后一段“It seems like no matter what your dietary preferences are, a healthy lifestyle can be achieved on or off a vegan diet.(无论你的饮食偏好是什么,是不是素食,生活方式健康都可以)”以及其它内容可知,文章主要讲述素食者和肉食者的饮食习惯,阐述哪-一个饮食方式会让人活的更久,最后得出结论,只要是健康的生活方式,两者均可。因此推断A项“素食者和肉食者——谁活得更长”故选A。

Can a fish be depressed (沮丧)? This question has been floating around my head ever since I spent a night in a hotel across from a sad-looking fish. His name was Bruce Lee,according to a sign beneath his little bowl.
The pleasant woman at the front desk promised to me that he was well taken care of. Did I simply classify his sleep into a sign of mental pain? When I sought answers from scientists,I assumed that they would find the question ridiculous. But they did not. Not at all.
Dr. Pittman likes working with fish because they are so obvious about their depression. He can reliably test the effectiveness of anti-depressants (抗抑郁剂)with something called the “novel tank test.“ A fish gets dropped in a new tank. If after five minutes it is hanging out in the lower half,it’s depressed. If it’s swimming up top —its usual tendency when exploring a new environment — then it’s not. The severeness of the depression,he says, can be measured by quantity of time at the top and the bottom, all of which seemed to confirm my doubts about Bruce Lee.
“ One of the things we’re finding is that fish are naturally curious and seek new things out,” said Dr. Pittman. In other words, your goldfish is probably bored. To help avoid depression,he urges introducing new objects to the tank or switching up the location of items.
The last time a guest posted Bruce Lee to Instagram he was looking good and lively. Perhaps that new green leaf in his bowl had provided the enrichment he wished.
    32. How did the author get the name of the fish in the hotel?
    A. From the attached caption. B. From a travel guide.
    C. From a science fiction. D. From a hotel brochure .
    33. What did the scientists think of the author’s assumption about Bruce Lee?
    A. Ridiculous. B. Reasonable.
    C. Indifferent. D. Contradictory.
    34. In what situation did Bruce Lee look positive?
    A. When fed with some fresh food.
    B. When removed from the bowl.
    C. When given new objects he was eager for.
    D. When provided with some fish in his bowl.
    35. What does the underlined word “items” in the fourth paragraph refer to?
    A. Objects . B. Tanks .
    C. Fishes. D. Foods.
    【答案】32. A 33. B 34. C 35. A

When you get into an argument with your friends, it may have a bad influence on you. ____36____. Here are some helpful tips for dealing with conflicts with friends.
    Don’t be quiet.
____37____. If you have had a serious argument, it may get worse if you choose to keep quiet and not talk about it. Once you talk about issues, you get a fair idea about how to resolve a particular conflict. ____38____.
    Think before you speak.
When you have decided to talk about your issues, you need to keep the anger aside and talk peacefully to each other. ____39____. So, you should choose your words wisely while you are trying to resolve conflicts with friends.
    ____40____
Communication is necessary but it is only fruitful when it is two-way. If you are dealing with conflicts with friends, there must be communication as well as listening and understanding from both sides. If you have an argument or you have different opinions that lead to a conflict, try to find out what the other person finds offensive. Let your friend speak about things that don’t seem right to them. Apologize if you need to for being wrong on your part or explain to them your point of view to help them understand you better.
