Lead-in | Free talk. Show Ss some pictures and let them talk about the locations. |
Step 1 | Discussion. Let Ss make conversation with the sentence structure “Do you know where I can …/ Could you tell me where I can …?” |
Step 2 | Activity 1a. Match each thing with a place in the picture. (Many different answers are possible.) |
Step 3 | Activity 1b. Listen and complete the conversation in the picture in 1a. |
Step 4 | Listen again and answer some questions. |
Step 5 | Pair works. Make conversations. Let Ss using the information in 1a to make conversation and then to talk about their own town or city. |
Step 6 | Free talk. Show Ss some pictures and let them talk about the directions correctly. |
Step 7 | Conclusion. Give Ss a summary of sentence structures about “ask directions and giving directions” and let them remember. |
Step 8 | Pair works. Let Ss make conversations by using the sentences in the summary to describe the locations of things in a picture. |
Step 9 | Activity 2a-1. Listen and number the directions in the order you hear. |
Step 10 | Activity 2b. Listen again. Let Ss draw a line in the picture in 2a to show how to get to the supermarket. |
Step 11 | Pair works. Make conversations with your partner to talk about the other places in the picture in 2a. E.g.: A: Excuse me, do you know where I can get some postcards? B: Sure. Go to the second floor. There is a bookstore between the bank and the supermarket. |
Step 12 | Activity 2d. Let Ss read the conversation and answer some questions. |
Step 13 | Pair works. Role-play the conversation. |
Step 14 | Language points: explain the key words and phrases in section A-1. |
Step 15 | Let Ss do more exercises. |
