B. Learning to send an email.
C. Preparing for an interview.

7. How long was the man gone for?
A. One night. B. Two nights. C. Three nights.
【答案】CB
W: How was your camping trip last weekend, John?
M: Not great. The first night we stayed at one of those camping areas where you need to pay to get in. There were too many people there, though.
W: So, what happened next?
M: The next day we decided to hike about four hours to a spot where there wasn’t anybody around. That was a big mistake.
W: Why?
M: None of us brought anything to make a fire with. Then it started raining, and we realized even with our warm clothes it was too cold to stay overnight.
W: So what did you do?
M: We hiked back to the original camping area in complete darkness. We left the next morning because everyone was too tired from the night before. What did you do?
W: I watched a movie at home by a nice wood fire.

A. Surfing the Internet. B. Playing games. C. Watching movies.
【答案】BCA
M: I need a new phone and I think I might buy a Chinese one
W: But you always had American phones in the past.
M: Yes. But I trust Chinese ones. More and more people use them. They are reliable and fast.
W: And cheap, of course.
M: Yes, that’s the main thing. They cost far less than even the Korean ones.
W: I hear they are not as good if you want to play games or watch movies on them.
M: It depends on which one you get. If you buy a more expensive one, it will obviously have more functions.
W: I really don’t understand why anyone would want to watch a movie on a phone or play a game for that matter
M: Well, I used to think like that. But when you are on a long journey, say on a subway or a bus, it is sometimes nice to have something to do other than reading.
W: Is that how you use them?
M: My main concern is to be able to access the Internet while I am on the move.
11. How many kinds of sharks are there according to the woman?
A. About 80. B. Nearly 420. C. Over 500.
12. What did the woman find more fascinating about sharks?
A. How big they are.
B. How scary they are.
C. How old their species is.
13. Why do sharks break and lose a lot of teeth?
A. They bite too hard.
B. They eat too much food.
C. They often fight with each other.
【答案】CCA
M: How was your school trip to the aquarium(水族馆) today?
W: It was great! We learned a lot about sea creatures.
M: Yeah? What do you remember the most?
W: Sharks, for sure! Did you know that there are more than 500 different kinds of sharks?
M: Wow, really?
W: Yeah. I was really surprised by that number, and what’s more fascinating is that sharks have been around for more than 420 million years! Can you believe that?
M: Oh! I just know from TV programs that they’re super dangerous, and their teeth are so scary!
W: Right! Actually, their teeth are constantly replaced during their average 30-year life, because they eat so violently that they often break their teeth! A shark can lose about 80 teeth a month. Isn’t that crazy?
M: Yeah. And they can grow their teeth back?
W: Yes! And their teeth are much bigger than our teeth!
14. What is the conversation mainly about?
A. Fighting fires. B. Detecting fires. C. Using fires.
15. How many fires did California have in 2020?
A. Around 50. B. About 400. C. Over 8600.
16. What size of fire can the new satellites discover?
A. Size of a car. B. Size of a plane. C. Size of a sports field.
17. What is the woman's main concern?
A. Saving animals. B. Saving the trees. C. Saving humans.
【答案】BCAA
W: We’re developing a new technology that can detect forest fires as soon as they start.
M: That sounds amazing. Given how many fires there have been recently, it’s something the world desperately needs.
W: Indeed. In 2020 alone, California has had over 8600 fires, losing roughly 4% of the state’s trees.
M: That is truly mind-blowing.
W: Yes. The other place where it will be useful is Australia. At the start of the year, there were 50 separate bushfires burning across the country.
M: So how will your new detection system work?
W: We’re going to use a new range of satellites which have heat cameras.
M: Don’t other satellites have those?
W: Yes, but none is so advanced. They can detect a fire the size of a football field. The new one can sense a fire the size of a car.
M: And will that be enough of a difference to stop the fire from spreading?
W: We believe so. Hopefully it will give firefighters enough time to stop it before it gets too big. If they get the plane up in time they could stop it dead.
M: If it works, I really hope you get recognition for it.
W: I just want to try and stop trees from burning, and more importantly, protect the poor animals that live in them.
M: I know, we often only consider the human cost, never the animal one.

18. What did Catlin Powers find through her research?
A. People used the stoves less often.
B. Outdoor air pollution was not that serious.
C. Indoor air pollution was related to the way of cooking.
D. An increasing number of trees were cut down every year.
19. According to Powers and Frank, what might be the solution to the problem?
A. Taking advantage of greener energy.
B. Building a base in the Himalayas.
C. Depending on animal waste for fuel.
D. Finding land covered with forests.
20. Which of the following is special about the cooker designed by Powers’ team?
A. It was resistant to water.
B. It was easy to pack and move.
C. It worked well on rainy days.
D. It looked like a pot or a pan.
【答案】CAB
In 2007, environmental scientist Catlin Powers was carrying out climate research when a local asked her why researchers were so interested in outdoor air pollution when indoor air pollution was such a serious problem. Through further research, Powers discovered that every year, around four million people globally were dying because of the smoke from the stoves they used indoors. Part of the problem was the fuel: animal waste and wood, which produce a lot of smoke. In addition, depending on these sources of fuel creates other problems: it means animal waste is no longer available to fertilise the soil and leads to the illegal cutting down of trees.
Powers immediately began trying to figure out ways to make cooking cleaner. She was introduced to Scot Frank and the two immediately began talking about ways to solve the problems of indoor air pollution.
They realized the solution lay in using the cleaner, more environmentally friendly energy of the sun. Having decided that solar power was the way to go, Frank and Powers, and engineer Amy Qian began working with university students in the Himalayas to collect feedback on the design features needed for a sun-powered cooker. Though some models of solar cooker had been introduced to the region by aid organizations, they weren’t easy to pack and move, and so weren’t suitable for people who travel from place to place all the time. The team came up with a design that looks something like an umbrella or a satellite dish. When sunlight hits the reflective inner curve of the disc, it bounces off and can be focused onto the bottom of a pot or pan.
Now listen again, please.

Kathy Hochul's proposal to allow restaurants to sell drinks to go with reasonable limitations was met with great enthusiasm all across New York. But New York's liquor (酒) stores have already begun a campaign of misinformation in an effort to block this.
Their basic argument is that the governor's proposal will result in an increase in underage sales, drunken driving, or any other public health problems. However, they throw these statements around without offering any support for their claims—because there is none.
While the liquor stores frequently claim that the laws have been unchanged since the abolishment (废除) of Prohibition in 1934, in just the past 20 years the rules governing liquor stores have been changed, permitting the use of online third-party delivery services and allowing stores to open on Sundays. Restaurant advocates didn't oppose these expanded privileges because they didn't have a significant impact on restaurant sales.
What hasn't changed of the law since Prohibition is the restriction on new liquor store licenses that give liquor stores a geographic territorial monopoly (垄断) to protect them from competition. Under typical circumstances, the State Liquor Authority will only issue a new liquor store license if the nearby stores report steadily increasing sales. However anti-competitive and outdated this restriction may be, it does serve as a protection against their concerns—in the very unlikely event they come to pass.
Economically, the pandemic has been a major help to the liquor store business. Before the pandemic, liquor stores sold 76% of all liquor in New York State and now they sell nearly 85%. And remember, during this period, restaurants were allowed drinks-to-go sales, showing their false claims of economic collapse are not grounded in reality or experience. The sales shift from restaurants to liquor stores over the past two years demonstrates clearly that restaurants have lost sales to liquor stores—we just want to stop the bleeding. While the restaurant industry rebounded for a part of 2021, employment still remains more than 20% below pre-pandemic levels.
24. Why did liquor stores oppose the proposal according to the author?
A. Threat to public health. B. Boost of underage sales.
C. Concerns about their sales. D. Limitations to drinks to go.
25. What can be inferred from the fourth paragraph?
A. Liquor stores are in a dog-eat-dog world.
B. Prohibition makes liquor stores dead in the water.
C. The number of liquor stores is under control.
D. What liquor stores worry about is reasonable.
26. What does the underlined word “their” in the last paragraph refer to?
A. Restaurants. B. Governors.
C. New Yorkers. D. Liquor stores.
27. What is the best title for the text?
A. Let restaurants sell drinks to go.
B. Defend liquor stores privileges.
C. Liquor industry is losing money.
D. Restaurants are racing with liquor stores.
【答案】C CD A
Kathy Hochul's proposal to allow restaurants to sell drinks to go with reasonable limitations was met with great enthusiasm all across(州长凯西·胡赫尔提议允许餐馆在合理限制的情况下出售饮料,这一提议受到了全国各地的热烈欢迎)”和第二段的“Their basic argument is that the governor's proposal will result in an increase in underage sales, drunken driving, or any other public health problems. However, they throw these statements around without offering any support for their claims—because there is none.(他们的基本论点是,州长的提案将导致未成年人销售、酒后驾驶或任何其他公共健康问题的增加。然而,他们抛出这些言论,却没有提供任何支持他们主张的证据——因为根本没有证据。)”可知,酒类商店反对这个提案不是因为对公众健康的威胁,会促进未成年人的销售或外带饮料的限制,根据常理判断,允许餐馆出售饮料,极有可能会影响到酒类商店的销售,因此酒类商店因为担心销售才会反对,故选C。
25. 推理判断题。根据第四段的“Under typical circumstances, the State Liquor Authority will only issue a new liquor store license if the nearby stores report steadily increasing sales.(在典型的情况下,国家酒局只会在附近的商店报告销量稳步增长的情况下,才会颁发新的酒类商店执照。)”
根据最后一段的“Before the pandemic, liquor stores sold 76% of all liquor in New York State and now they sell nearly 85%. And remember, during this period, restaurants were allowed drinks-to-go sales(在大流行之前,酒类商店销售了纽约州所有酒类的76%,现在它们的销量接近85%。记住,在此期间,餐馆允许饮料外带销售)”可知,餐馆在允许饮料外带销售的情况下销售都没有酒类商店高,由此说明,酒类商店关于经济崩溃的说法是错误的,因此their指的是酒类商店,故选D。
27. 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第一段的“Gov. Kathy Hochul's proposal to allow restaurants to sell drinks to go with reasonable limitations was met with great enthusiasm all across New York. But New York's liquor (酒) stores have already begun a campaign of misinformation in an effort to block this.(纽约州州长凯西·胡赫尔(Kathy Hochul)提议允许餐馆在合理限制的情况下出售饮料,这一提议在整个纽约都受到了热烈欢迎。但纽约的酒类商店已经开始了一场不实信息的运动,试图阻止这种情况的发生。)”可知,本文主要讲的是纽约州州长凯西·胡赫尔(Kathy Hochul)提议允许餐馆在合理限制的情况下出售饮料这一提议所引起的酒类商店的反对意见,因此最好的题目是A选项“Let restaurants sell drinks to go(让餐馆出售外带饮料)”,故选A。

In the summer of 2020, Miller teamed up with her friend Kailyn Rowland to create a documentary for National History Day, a nonprofit organization that holds an annual contest for students. 29. 根据第三段的“Miller and Rowland spent countless hours working on their documentary, reaching out to the 62 women of the class of 1980 and interviewing more than 25 percent of them.(米勒和罗兰花了无数时间制作纪录片,联系了62名1980届的女性,采访了其中超过25%的人。 )”和“ “This was hours and hours of research and interviews,” Miller said. “We did Face Times with the women, we met in person, we called them, and so we had so much information, so many news articles going back 40 years.(我们和这些女性进行了面对面交流,我们和她们见面,给她们打电话,所以我们有很多信息,很多40年前的新闻文章)”可知,本段主要讲的是凯瑟琳·米勒拍这个纪录片背后的努力,故选D。
根据最后一段的“so it was such a shock to me when I realized that girls didn’t always have that opportunity.(所以当我意识到女孩并不总是有这样的机会时,我感到非常震惊)”可推知,妇女过去很少有机会接受军事教育。故选B。
根据最后一段的““What we did was never for an award or for recognition; it was about sharing the story of these women, so to receive the award was really special,” Miller said.(“我们所做的从来不是为了什么奖项或认可;它的目的是分享这些女性的故事,所以获得这个奖项真的很特别,”米勒说。 )”可知,Kathryn Miller拍纪录片不是为了获奖,而只是为了分享这些女性的故事,可见她是一个有热诚的人,故选A。

(2022·湖南·模拟预测)If you follow luxury resorts (度假地) or travel influencers on Instagram, odds are good that you’ve seen at least one “floating breakfast”.
In case you’re not familiar with them, here’s what to know: they’re your typical hotel room service breakfast-think toast, fruit, coffee and the like — served in a pool instead of in bed. Usually, they’re placed on large plates or colorful baskets, then accessorized (配饰) with bright tropical flowers to make them even more photogenic.
These breakfasts are particularly popular in Asia and the Pacific, especially at warm-weather private flat resorts in places like Thailand, Fiji and the Maldives.
Nearly everyone agrees that the trend began in Bali, although no specific resort seems to get the credit for coming up with the idea first.
While these breakfasts have become more common on resort menus over the last five years, the coronavirus pandemic has made them more popular than ever as hotel guests are avoiding buffets and public dining rooms.
“Across the course of the past year, in-suite dining has become extremely popular, especially for those seeking comfort in the safety and their room,” Jann Hess, general manager at Amanjiwo in Bali. “The floating breakfast is a popular choice.”
After all, the floating breakfast needs a pool to float in — and a private pool is a much better choice than a shared pool where a splashing (飞溅的) kid might make the whole thing topple over.
Though the gorgeous colors and dramatic plating of floating breakfasts make them perfect for social media, asking people to stand in the pool before they’ve fully woken up or had caffeine seems like a potential recipe for disaster.
James Booth, a Sydney-based reporter, tells that, for him, the special meal worked better in concept. Though Booth had pre-scheduled a specific time for the breakfast to arrive, he ended up oversleeping about 20 minutes, meaning he’d missed the optimal window for consuming it.
32. What does paragraph 2 mainly tell us?
A. What “floating breakfast” is like. B. Why “floating breakfast” is popular.
C. What you should know in luxury resorts. D. How we can enjoy “floating breakfast”.
33. Why does the coronavirus pandemic make “floating breakfast” more popular?
A. It provides a more healthy diet. B. People avoid meeting in groups.
C. It saves a lot of money to eat out. D. People wants to try the new trend.
34. What does the underlined word “optimal” in the last paragraph mean?
A. Small. B. Broad. C. Open. D. Most ideal.
35. What is a suitable title for the text?
A. How floating breakfast develops B. Two sides of floating breakfast
C. Floating breakfast, a popular trend D. Reasons why floating breakfast comes up
根据第二段“In case you’re not familiar with them, here’s what to know: they’re your typical hotel room service breakfast — think toast, fruit, coffee and the like — served in a pool instead of in bed. Usually, they’re placed on large plates or colorful baskets, then accessorized (配饰) with bright tropical flowers to make them even more photogenic.(如果你对它们不熟悉,你应该知道:它们是你典型的酒店客房服务早餐——想想烤面包、水果、咖啡之类的东西——在游泳池而不是床上提供。通常,它们会被放在大盘子或五颜六色的篮子里,然后再配上鲜艳的热带花卉,让它们更上镜)”可知,文章第二段主要介绍了浮动早餐是什么样的。故选A项。
根据第五段“the coronavirus pandemic has made them more popular than ever as hotel guests are avoiding buffets and public dining rooms.(但新冠疫情让它们比以往任何时候都更受欢迎,因为酒店客人正在避免自助餐和公共餐厅)”可知,新冠疫情期间,人们避免聚集就餐让“漂浮早餐”变得更受欢迎。故选B项。
结合选项和最后一段中“he ended up oversleeping about 20 minutes, meaning he’d missed the optimal window for consuming it.

When people ask for your opinion, you should be honest. ______38______ For instance, if you don’t like your friend’s shirt, respond with, “I really like you in blue instead,” rather than, “I hate it, it’s ugly.”
l______39______ If you see value in making others laugh and keep yourself positive, you’ll be a happier person, making others drawn to you as a result. A great way to remind you to laugh more is to have daily jokes on your phone or email. Set them for a time of day when you notice yourself start to feel drained.
lHave confidence in your body. You don’t have to have the “perfect body” to be confident in it. People will be more attracted to you if you dress well and carry yourself well. If you need a little boost, place posters around your mirror that remind you of the charming parts of your body. _______40_______

One afternoon after school, Mary and her brother,Keith, were eating at a cafe near their home. That afternoon, they had to share their table with another person. That person was a young lady in her twenties. After eating, she went to the restroom. Without realizing, she had left her handphone on the table. Five minutes later, she came out and walked out of the cafe without looking back.
Mary saw the handphone on the table. She quickly told Keith,“Keith, the girl left behind her handphone.”
Keith looked at the handphone. It took his breath away. It was one of the latest models on the market. Keith had always wanted a handphone. But his parents had told him, “You don’t need one. You can always use the house phone.”
He stared at it for some minutes. Then he said slowly, pausing on every word,“I want to take the handphone.”
Mary could not believe her ears. She merely stared at her brother. “You can’t! What if the owner comes to look for it?”
Having made the decision,Keith quickly grabbed the handphone and put it in his schoolbag. Then, he took Mary’s hand and led her out of the cafe quickly.
Once back home, Keith locked his house door with trembling hands. Inside his room, he took out the piece of beauty. Oh, he liked it so much. Now he had his own handphone. Soon, he was polishing it happily.
But Mary told him, “Keith, you cannot keep the handphone. What will you tell Father about this? He will ask you how you got the handphone.”
Keith said quickly, “I will say a friend lent it to me.”
Mary said, “Now you are lying too.” Oh dear! When had Keith turned so dishonest?
Then Mary saw a house phone number on the plastic cover of the handphone. “This is the girl’s phone number. Why don’t we just call this number? We will talk to her and ask her to come and take back her handphone.” She was trying to talk some sense into him.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
That night, Keith turned over in bed from time to time.

That night, Keith turned over in bed from time to time. He had difficulty sleeping, uncertain about what he should do. Of course, he liked the new handphone. However, he was feeling sorry for the owner. When he thought how sad the young lady would be at the loss of her handphone, he was full of guilt and shame. The next morning, after a long and restless night, he was determined to return the handphone to the owner. After school, he told Mary, “I am going to phone the owner.”
Mary was very happy to hear that. Back home, they phoned the owner’s house phone. A girl answered the phone. Kevin asked, “Are you the owner of the handphone? I’m Keith. I have your handphone. Can you come and get it? ” The girl replied ‘Yes’ excitedly, expressing her gratitude repeatedly. Ten minutes later, she was at the same cafe to meet Keith. Handing back the handphone to her and seeing her smile happily, Keith realized that honesty was indeed the best policy.
