T: Look at these maps. What country is it?
T: What do you think of these three countries?
S1: The UK is an old country.
S2: America is a modern country.

Step 2. While-reading
1. T: Today we’ll learn about another country. Guess, what country is it?
S: It’s Australia.
T: Look at these children. What are they talking about before class? Watch the cartoon, then try to catch it.
S: The children are talking about “How to find out about this country”.
Learn find out
- T: Yes, the children will learn about Australia. They want to find out about this country before the lessons. How will they find out about this country? Look at this new word “will”, what does it mean? Say it in English.
S: It means “be going to do”.
Read P58 and find it out.
S1: Mike will ask his e-friend in Australia.
S2: Wang Bing will ask Mr Green.
S3: Liu Tao will read about Australia on the Internet.
S4: Yang Ling will go to the library and look for books and magazines.
- T: Look at Liu Tao, he is reading about Australia. What will he learn about? Guess!
S1: He will learn about the animals in Australia.
S2: He will learn about the sport in Australia.
S3: He will learn about the people in Australia.

(1) T: Sydney is one of the biggest cities in Australia.But it is not the capital of Australia. There are many interesting places in Sydney. What do you know?
(2) Enjoy some pictures.
(3) T: What other cities do you know in Australia?
- T: I know some of you want to know more about this country, for example, food, festivals and so on. What will you do?
- T: It’s time for reading. Group in 4. Read the text loudly, pay attention to your pronunciation and intonation.
