What’s the Secret f Our Height?
Have yu ever wanted t be taller? Perhaps we all have wished fr this, whether we’re trying t see ver a crwd f peple r dreaming f becming a basketball player. Height is mainly a result f genetics (遗传), thugh ther factrs like nutritin and healthcare can als influence ur height.
Accrding t Wrld Data, the average height fr Chinese men is 1.71 meters, while fr wmen it’s 1.59 meters. But what stps us frm grwing t three meters r even taller? The answer is evlutin ( 进 化 ), accrding t a study frm Harvard University.
“Height is nt just abut height. It’s abut the bilgical grwth f an rganism,” bilgist Terence D. Capellini frm Harvard University tld Ppular Science. Over millins f years, natural selectin has influenced the way ur rgans ( 器 官 ) grw and therefre the way ur bdies grw t. In general, the genes that are respnsible fr rgan grwth are quite active in infants (婴儿), causing them t grw rapidly. But as children get lder, the genes slacken. Eventually, as they enter late adlescence, the genes turn ff and teenagers reach their adult height.
Accrding t the study, abut 70 t 80 percent f ur height is mainly determined by the grwth genes. The ther factrs are sme envirnmental factrs like prper nutritin and mdern healthcare. An example f an envirnmental factr is when a child desn’t get the nutritin he r she needs, the child is less likely t reach the average height.
Many peple wuld like t be taller than they are, but is that necessarily gd fr them?
Rbert Wadlw frm the US was the tallest man in histry. He was 2.71 meters tall. But he suffered frm several related health prblems. Fr example, he needed leg braces ( 支 架 ) t help him walk. He died at the age f 22 frm an infectin that was caused by a brace that didn’t fit him prperly. Being very tall can cause high bld pressure in the legs. It can als put t much stress n the heart, accrding t The Guardian.
It seems that beynd having tall parents, the nly way t increase yur height is t eat a healthy and balanced diet, accrding t Frbes.
27.Accrding t the passage,________stps humans frm grwing.
A. healthcareB. nutritinC. lifestyleD. evlutin

B.humans’ rgans grw much mre slwly than their height
C.we have t becme strnger if we want t grw much taller

Micr-habits are small habits which require the smallest mtivatin r effrt t cmplete. The idea is that micr-habit will slwly build n tp f itself and result in smething great ver time.
My middle schl gym teacher intrduced me t micr-habit in the frm f weight lifting. He said, “Imagine weightlifting as stacking up pieces f paper. Every day yu lift weights, just pretend like yu’re adding a piece f paper t a pile. On the first day, yu start with ne single piece f paper. After a mnth f weight lifting, yu culd have as many as 30 sheets f paper stacked up. After several years f keeping up with weight lifting, yu are ging t have a serius pile f paper!”
The idea has stuck with me ever since, and I have tried t develp a number f micr-habits. These micr-habits have shaped the way I live and have helped me d things I wuldn’t have been able t d therwise.
The first habit I started with was reading. I have never been a big reader but decided I wanted t start reading mre t learn new things. At first, I began reading ne page a night befre bed. Just ne page, that’s it! Anyne can read a single page f a bk. N matter what, I wuld read befre bed every single night. What I fund was reading the page f the bk wasn’t what was imprtant, but rather frming the habit. It’s nearly impssible t make an excuse nt t take a minute fr reading a page f a bk. Thus, the habit begins t frm. Smetimes it is a struggle, but remember — it’s nly ne page. Finally, by adding nly five minutes at a time, I am able t increase the ttal amunt f reading frm five minutes t frty-five minutes per night.
The beauty f micr-habits is that they’re s simple, yu can’t say n t them r make any excuse nt t fllw thrugh with them. As humans, we ften vervalue what we think we can cmplete, but then we give up the mment reality. Micr-habits are all abut preventing yu frm giving up due t smething being t ‘hard’. When practicing cnsistently, yu can d smething withut even having t think abut it. Micr-habits yu prbably already fixed int yur daily life include brushing yur teeth, taking a shwer, making a mrning cup f cffee, etc.
Pick smething yu want t d and imprve n. Then find ut the micr-habits yu can start tday t help yu reach yur gal, and eventually achieve yur dream.

D.T further explain hw t keep weight lifting.

B.With great effrts, peple can frm micr-habits.
C.With smallest mtivatin, peple can g t the tp.
D.Micr-habits helped the writer frm the reading habits.
32.The fifth paragraph is mainly abu________.
A.why micr-habits wrked
B.why micr-habits are beautified
C.hw the writer used micr-habits
D.hw the writer began his micr-habits
33.Which f the fllwing wuld be the best title fr the passage?
A.Micr-habits Can Make Great Prgress
B.T Achieve Yur Gal, Change Yur Micr-habits

When yu take ntes in yur classes, are yu cnfident that yu’ll actually g back and lk ver them? Or d yu just write ut yur ntes in class and then cmpletely frget all f the infrmatin yu wrte dwn? A useful nte-taking methd can nt nly save yu precius time and energy, but als help yu better understand what yu learn.
This well-knwn nte-taking methd is called the Crnell Nte-taking System. It was first develped in the 1940s by educatin prfessr Walter Pauk at Crnell University t help students learn. Accrding t Crnell Ntes, each page is divided int three sectins: the nte-taking clumn, the cue clumn (提示栏) and summary space. It’s very easy. Yu just need t draw tw lines n yur nte page, leaving a 2.5-inch margin n the left and a 2-inch margin n the bttm.
The nte-taking clumn, which is the biggest space is used t write dwn ntes while yu are in class r reading an article. The key pint is that yu dn’t write dwn what yu hear wrd by wrd. It requires yu t be very brief, using shrt phrases, symbls r keywrds t replace lng sentences.
T help with future review, yu can write sme related questins n the left. The next step is t cver the nte-taking clumn with a sheet f paper r yur hand. Then, by nly lking at the questins fr key wrds, try t repeat the cntent in yur wn wrds.
The summary space is designed t help yu reflect n what yu’ve learned. Questins may als be useful. Fr example, what’s the significance f these facts? What principles are they based n? What’s beynd them? Yu can als write dwn yur wn ideas and persnal feelings. Dn’t frget t review frm time t time s that yu will remember the infrmatin mre easily.
Practice makes perfect. After a few mnths f using this handy nte-taking methd, yu are sure t becme the nte-taking star f yur class. And even better, yu’ll finally be able t remember what yu have learned.
34.Wh first develped the Crnell Nte-taking System?
35.What is the biggest space used t d?
36.Hw can yu use the cue clumn?
37.Why is the summary space designed?
38.Wuld yu like t use this nte-taking methd? Why r why nt?
