Many people living in extremely low-income areas don't have access to thematerials they need to make even the most basic home improvements.Most,including Tessa Vierk's and Jim Benton's friends,can't afford to buy priceytools themselves,nor can they afford to hire someone else to repair their homes.That's where the Chicago Tool Library comes in!
Tessa and Jim set up the library that accepts tool donations in 2019.Itfunctions exactly like a regular library,except instead of books,people canborrow tools they need for home repairs,woodworking,gardening,cooking,camping,and more.People sign up for a library card,and there's a pay-what-you-can annual fee with no standard or minimum payments.Members canborrow as many tools as they can carry for seven days,and renew(续借)them ifthey want to.When the library first started,Tessa and Jim had about 150members.They now have over 1,500 members from all over the Chicago areaand more than 2,500 tools to choose from.
Now,in fact,they've had to turn down tool donations.They're searchingfor a larger building to hold “twice as many tools”.“Probably 90 percent of thetools we have have been donated,” Tessa said.“A lot of people own too manyhigh-quality things,and they would give them to us so that we don't have thespace to accept.”
“While it's quiet around the library,it's far from the city,which is hard foryoung people who are working to get our services.We are planning to relocate toa larger location with a better public transport network to make our offerings,including more tools,and lots of other wonderful services,available to evenmore people,” they wrote on their website.

Arouca Geopark in Portugal has announced that visitors are free to visit itsrecord-setting bridge,the 516 Arouca Bridge.Though it's quite high,it's thelength of the bridge that has set a record.It's the world's longest hanging bridgefor walkers.

I didn't have a teacher at first,so I tried every way I could to learn thelanguage.One way that was very useful was listening to the radio and watchingTV,mostly news.I tried to speak like the people I heard on TV.They spokemore clearly and it was easier to understand than the English I heard peoplespeaking in my neighborhood.I picked up one word at a time,and looked themup in the dictionary.I would also try to write down the words and rememberthem.I made a goal of learning at least 20 new words every day.
