Sme think that the Internet has made it mre difficult t fcus n ne task withut getting interrupted by ther things. We are cntinually interrupted by updates frm scial media websites and e-mail messages. We fllw links (链接) t ther websites where we find mre links t ther websites and jump frm tpic t tpic. We als get a lt f junk (垃圾) – fr example, news abut famus peple and advertisements abut prducts we dn’t want r need.
Sme cnsider what we read n the Internet t be junk, while thers see many advantages in the reading we d n the Internet. Sme argue that reading n the Internet is like exercise fr the brain, making it easier fr us t deal with interruptin and think clearly as we learn t make chices that wrk fr us. In a recent study,a lt f peple agreed that ur use f the Internet has actually made us smarter. If yu grew up with the Internet, that’s very gd news, in fact.

Emtinal Intelligence
Gleman is the writer f Emtinal Intelligence, a great bk abut emtinal intelligence (情商) r EQ is mre imprtant than IQ in ne’s success in life. One f the highlights f the bk is a test that Gleman calls “The Marshmallw (棉花糖) Challenge.”
In this experiment, fur-year-ld children were separately called int a rm. A kind man gave a marshmallw t each f them and said they culd eat the marshmallw right away, r wait fr him t cme back t get tw marshmallws.
Sme f the children cvered their eyes r played games t keep their thughts ff the single marshmallw and waited fr the prmised duble prize. Others – abut a third f the grup – simply watched the man leave and grabbed (抓) the marshmallw and ate it right away.
Twelve years later, the same children were teenagers and they were tested again. “The emtinal and scial difference between the grab-the-marshmallw kids and the satisfactin-delaying kids was interesting,” Gleman says.
The nes wh had resisted eating the marshmallw right away were clearly mre scially capable than the thers. “They were less likely t becme nervus and disrganized when stressed; they welcmed challenges and fllwed them instead f giving up; they were independent and cnfident.”
The third r s wh grabbed the marshmallw were mre likely t be seen as shying away frm scial cntacts, t be easily upset by stress, t think f themselves as unwrthy, r t verreact t certain situatins.
And all because f a single marshmallw? In fact, Gleman explains, it’s all because f a lne neurn (孤神经元) in the brain, that bypasses the necrtex – the area f the brain where reasnable decisins are made – and ges straight t the amygdala (大脑杏仁核), the emtinal center f the brain. Here, the mre that emtinal memries invlving disappintment, wrry, and fear are stred in early teenage time, the mre the amygdala can “cntrl the rest f the brain,” Gleman says, “by flding it with strng and imprper emtins.’”
But if the emtins stred in the brain are thse f self-managing, self-mtivatin and hpe, then we are given a gift f an “emtinal Intelligence” that serves instead f cntrlling us fr the rest f ur lives.
Hwever, amygdala takes a lng time t grw, arund fifteen r sixteen years, which means t Gleman that “emtinal intelligence can be taught, nt nly in the hme but perhaps, mre imprtantly, in schl.”
31. What des the experiment “The Marshmallw Challenge” shw?
A. EQ is mre imprtant than IQ t ne’s success.
B. The develpment f EQ is linked t marshmallws.
C. Peple wh have higher EQ are mre likely t succeed.
D. Peple wh like the marshmallw are mre likely t fail.
32. The wrd “resisted” in Paragraph 5 prbably means ______.
A. refusedB. agreedC. stppedD. repeated
33. Daniel Gleman prbably agrees that ______.
A. the grab-the-marshmallw kids are gifted with self-mtivatin
B. emtin memries invlving wrry lead t better scial abilities
C. it takes fifteen r sixteen years t teach kids emtinal intelligence
D. it’s als schls’ respnsibility t teach kids emtinal intelligence
