Have you ever heard of Iceland? Iceland is a country, one-tenth of which is covered with ice. However, it is said that Iceland is the land of heat. Smoking volcanoes (火山), white steam (蒸汽) and hot springs are more amazing than other sights including ice there.
It has taken millions of years for volcanoes and lava flows (熔岩流) to build Iceland. When hiking across one of Iceland's many ancient lava fields, you may notice something strange. White steam is rising from each vent(排放口) in front of you. Iceland is covered with vents which steam can pass out of. The steam comes from naturally heated rocks and hot water below the Earth's surface.
Like steam vents, hot springs can be seen here and there in the ancient lava fields. Blue Lagoon is the most famous hot spring in Iceland. It isn't far from the capital city of the country. The water and white earth in it can make your skin as soft as a newborn baby's skin. Enjoy that water, because it has traveled a long way. It starts nearly two kilometers under the Blue Lagoon. There, water from the ocean continues moving up slowly into the spaces between hot rocks below the surface. And then the water is heated by hot rocks. Powerful machines and long pipes help bring the heated water to the surface. People in Iceland use natural hot water for hot springs. Besides, they use it to create electricity that can be used to heat homes and even greenhouses.
Iceland is one of the few places where active volcanoes lie below ice. Heat from the volcanoes creates a strange and wild beauty. Therefore, some people believe that it's better to call the country “Heatland” instead of “Iceland”. If you have a chance to travel there, take it.
4.What are the most amazing sights in Iceland from the passage?
A.Smoking volcanoes and ice.
B.Smoking volcanoes, white steam and hot springs.
C.Heated rocks, hot springs and new lava fields.
D.Active volcanoes, kind people and cars.
5.Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.Iceland was built millions of years ago.
B.People in Iceland use natural hot water for hot springs and to create electricity.
C.Iceland is the only country where active volcanoes lie below ice.
D.Visitors will apply for living there forever for its hot springs.
6.What can we infer from the passage?
A.People will leave for another land to live in.
B.It will attract more people to visit.
C.Government will further develop volcanoes.
D.Iceland is famous for its ice.

Liu Jichen, 23, a student from Tsinghua Uni-versity, has developed a WeChat mini-program called “Clear Your Plate”. After a meal, users can open the mini-program and take a picture of their empty plates. Once the image is recognized by the AI (Artificial Intelligence), students can collect points and use them to buy gifts or purchase charity meals for children in impoverished (贫困的) rural areas.

Deep in the forest, my husband and I had fun climbing over and crawling under the downed trees that blocked the dirt path before us. It was May, yet we walked up a snow-covered hill. When we noticed our jeans were wet up to our knees, it did not dampen our spirits. Not once did we say, “Let's turn around.” This was our vacation, and we were on an adventure. Little did we know this was the beginning of many more surprises.
The trail was marked as an easy one-kilometer like yet we were already walking a long distance. Our light-heartedness stopped when we came out into a clearing and saw a parking lot without our rental car in it. As my eyes scanned the surroundings, nothing looked familiar. My heart raced. I realized we were lost in a national park that did not officially open for another week.
Usually, I am the calm one in the relationship, but my husband surprised me with his calmness. This did not comfort me; in fact, it heightened my fear. As we walked, I asked my husband to call for help, but there was no cell-phone signal in this isolated(偏僻的) area.
It was awfully quiet except for our footsteps hitting the road, and my heavy breathing. My husband suggested we conserve energy and walk slower. With each step on the road, my feet and thighs hurt while my mind raced with thoughts about people who got lost in the Canadian woods for days.
My vision sharpened. I noticed everything around me: the trees, rocks and snow. I thought we could eat the snow on the ground in case we needed water. For the first time in my life, I was ready and willing to get a ride, but we did not meet with a single car on the road. Silently, I prayed multiple times. We focused on each other, made joint decisions and connected through gratitude. We managed to stay on the main road and walked straight on.
Paragraph 1:
My husband suddenly spotted a small building on a hill in the distance.
Paragraph 2:
Just then, a friendly woman appeared, saying, “Hello.”

Instead, she made sure I had manners, and that I was polite and friendly to everyone I met.

故填was chosen。
故填where。
故填but。

One possible version:
Dear Jim,
It's great to hear from you. I feel happy to let you know who I admire. I think Tu Youyou is someone I admire.
I admire her for many reasons. First she is the first Chinese female scientist to be awarded a Nobel Prize. She and her team discovered artemisinin which has saved millions of lives. She makes a remarkable contribution to mankind. Another reason is that she is so brave. She did research during a difficult time for science in China. She bravely volunteered to be the first human subject to test the effect of the promising chemical. Besides, I admire her because she is creative. She and her team used old wisdom and new methods to bridge the Eastern and Western worlds, saving millions of lives. This is why she is worthy of admiration.
Who is the person you admire most? Write to me soon.
Yours,
Li Hua

One possible version:
Paragraph 1:
My husband suddenly spotted a small building on a hill in the distance. In no time we found ourselves heading for it. We were filled with hope and excitement to find such a building in the middle of nowhere. We climbed up the hill at a swinging pace as if all the pains were gone. As we approached, a sign came into sight, which read: Administration Office. However, it was not open for business. The empty hall made us nervous all at once. We stood there hopelessly, wondering what to do next.
Paragraph 2:
Just then, a friendly woman appeared, saying, “Hello.” I could barely hold back my enthusiasm and blurted out, “We're lost!” She comforted us and opened a room for us to take a break. Seeing we were cold and hungry, she treated us to hot chocolate. After studying the map, we figured out that our car was parked over three kilometers away. She offered us a ride back to our car and we accepted gladly. I felt relieved to see our rental car again. What a blessing to have such an unforgettable experience.
故the改为a。
此处为句型“it is/was exciting for sb. to do sth.”,应用以-ing结尾的形容词exciting,作表语;excited用于修饰人,表示“感到兴奋的”。故excited改为exciting。
去掉It was和连词部分,剩下的成分可以构成完整的句子,可知为强调句“it is/was+被强调部分+that+其他”,被强调部分为人时可用who替换that,此处被强调部分为thanks to your effort,应用that。故which改为that。
结合句意表示“尽可能多”可知短语为as much as possible。故possibly改为possible。
故so改为such。
修饰动词benefit应用a lot;a lot of用于修饰不可数名词或可数名词复数。故去掉of。
故you改为your。
可知短语为invite sb. to sp.。故my前添加to。
