We moved to a beautiful two-storey old house. The house was built in 1905. It was repaired in 1997.
At first, really small things began to happen. They didn't make me believe that anything was wrong, but as time went on, things started becoming stranger and stranger. Early something was missing, and later on would be found somewhere else. I just thought I had forgotten where I put it, or perhaps my daughter was playing around with these things. Then later on I would hear strange sounds when nobody was at home but me... yet it was an old house, and sometimes an old house did make little noises, so again, I didn't really mind.
Then things that I couldn't explain started happening. It was last November and I was at home alone cleaning house. When I was sweeping the kitchen floor, I felt a very cold wind blew my hair. I thought the kitchen window must have been opened, but when I checked it, it was closed. The windows were new, and there was no way any cold air came in.
We all felt very strange and moved away from there in October 2015. I was never really frightened. It was just strange, like something or someone was trying to get my attention or something.

A.afraid of the strange things B.interested in everything
C.proud of the house D.surprised at the strange things

Teens want structure in their lives, which means they want their lives well-planned. To begin building structure, teens need love and trust. They need to know their parents are there to give them love and support(支持). Teens want to be sure that nothing can prevent parents from shouldering(负担)their responsibility for them—not their growing maturity(成熟), misbehavior, nor anger at something they have done. Teens want parents to keep control while allowing them to make some decisions.
There are some ways you can help your teens create reasonable structure and remain close. One way is to spend time together. Parents often mistake their teens' increased interest in friends for a disinterest(冷漠)in the family.
Teens would like to spend more time doing things with their parents, but watching TV is not counted as spending time together. As your teens mature, it is important for you and your teens spend time alone together, one to one. Your teens need time to talk to you alone without any other family member present.
Talk with your teens about their interests and concerns. Make sure you really show interest in what is happening. When talking with your teens, give full attention and do not stop them.
The way to help your teens become adults is to let your teens into your world. Sharing your emotions and concerns with your teens is important. Avoid causing needless worry.
Trust your teens. Don't expect the worst. Hope for the best. Telling your teens you don't like their friends will cause the teens not to bring their friends home. If something should go wrong, believe that your teens didn't do it on purpose.
It is very important that you treat your teens with respect. Teens need the same respect adults show for total strangers. Don't talk down to your teens.
The most important things to remember are: talk with your teens, listen to their worries and offer suggestions when needed. This will help your teens to live a well-organized life.
(1)According to Paragraph 1, teens ________.
A.don't know how to make a decision B.can control themselves
C.don't have responsibility for the family D.expect direction and freedom
(2)The underlined part "counted as" in Paragraph 3 probably means "________".
A.connected with B.regarded as C.compared with D.used as
(3)Parents can do the following things to remain close to their teenagers except ________.
A.worry about the worst B.give suggestions
C.talk with teens D.spend time alone together
(4)To help teens organize their lives, parents should ________.
A.share their feelings with their teens B.invite their teens' friends home
C.pay little attention to their teens' daily lives D.treat them without respect
(5)What is the best title for the passage?
A.Improving the Relationship with Your Teens B.Training Teens to Become Responsible Adults
C.Stepping into Your Teens' Secret World D.Helping Teens to Build Reasonable Structure

Parents are often surprised at their children's ability to use technology. A five-year-old child may easily find and use apps on a smart phone. A ten-year-old child can move up through the levels of a video game easily. Their parents may think their children were born geniuses!Natural geniuses, however, are not common. But your parents are right if they think you are smarter than them. Most children are born smarter than their parents. This has been proved on IQ tests around the world recently. These tests have shown that over the last 100 years, each new generation has become smarter than the older one. In other words, you are smarter than your parents and your parents are smarter than your grandparents. This increase in intelligence is called the "Flynn Effect". It was named after James Flynn. Flynn is a university professor in New Zealand. He first noticed this in 1980. According to his research, with each new generation, average IQ scores would increase by twenty percent. But why are people getting smarter? Flynn and many other researchers believe this has something to do with technology. New technologies have further developed our brains. They have made us think better. So we may be better at completing the missing parts of a puzzle than our parents. However, being smart doesn't make you wise. Wisdom comes with age and experience. A killer score on a computer game will not help you solve the everyday problems of life. For that, a smart kid will turn to the wisdom of his parents and grandparents.
