Language is clsely related t culture. Language expresses and embdies cultural reality. If we are in different cuntries, we must knw their cultures, thus, we can use the language freely. Thanksgiving Day is the mst truly American f the natinal Hlidays in the United States and is mst clsely cnnected with the earliest histry f the cuntry.Thanksgiving Day is a harvest festival. Traditinally, it is a time t give thanks fr the harvest and express gratitude in general. It is a hliday celebrated primarily in Canada and the United States. While religius in rigin, Thanksgiving is nw als identified as a secular hliday.
The date and lcatin f the first Thanksgiving celebratin is a tpic f mdest cntentin. Thugh the earliest attested Thanksgiving celebratin was n September 8, 1565 in what is nw Saint Augustine, Flrida, the traditinal "first Thanksgiving" is venerated as having ccurred at the site f Plymuth Plantatin, in 1621.Tday, Thanksgiving is celebrated n the furth Thursday f Nvember in the United States and n the secnd Mnday f Octber in Canada. Thanksgiving dinner is held n this day, usually as a gathering f family members and friends.

Thugh the hliday's rigins can be traced t harvest festivals which have been celebrated in many cultures since ancient times, the American hliday has religius undertnes related t the deliverance f the English settlers by Native Americans after the harsh winter at Plymuth, Massachusetts.
In 1620, the settlers, r Pilgrims, they sailed t America n the May flwer, seeking a place where they culd have freedm f wrship. After a tempestuus tw-mnth vyage they landed at in icy Nvember, what is nw Plymuth(普利茅斯), Massachusetts(马萨诸塞州).
During their first winter, ver half f the settlers died f starvatin r epidemics. Thse wh survived began swing in the first spring.All summer lng they waited fr the harvests with great anxiety, knwing that their lives and the future existence f the clny depended n the cming harvest. Finally the fields prduced a yield rich beynd expectatins. And therefre it was decided that a day f thanksgiving t the Lrd be fixed. Years later, President f the United States prclaimed the furth Thursday f Nvember as Thanksgiving Day every year. The celebratin f Thanksgiving Day has been bserved n that date until tday.

Thanksgiving in different cuntries
1)The GreeksThe ancient Greeks wrshipped many gds and gddesses. Their gddess f grains was Demeter(得墨忒尔--丰收之神).n the first day f the festival married wmen (pssibility cnnecting childbearing and the raising f crps) wuld build leafy shelters and furnish them with cuches made with plants. On the secnd day they fasted(禁食). On the third day a feast was held and fferings t the gddess Demeter were made - gifts f seed crn, cakes, fruit, and pigs. It was hped that Demeter's gratitude wuld grant them a gd harvest.
2)The RmansThe Rmans als celebrated a harvest festival called Cerelia, which hnred Ceres their gddess f grains (frm which the wrd cereal cmes). The festival was held each year n Octber 4th and fferings f the first fruits f the harvest and pigs were ffered t Ceres. Their celebratin included music, parades, games and sprts and a thanksgiving feast.
3)The ChineseThe ancient Chinese celebrated their harvest festival, Chung Ch'ui(中秋), with the full mn that fell n the 15th day f the 8th lunar mnth. This day was cnsidered the birthday f the mn and special "mn cakes", rund and yellw like the mn, wuld be baked. Each cake was stamped with the picture f a rabbit - as it was a rabbit, nt a man, which the Chinese saw n the face f the mn.The families ate a thanksgiving meal and feasted n rasted pig, harvested fruits and the "mn cakes". It was believed that during the 3 day festival flwers wuld fall frm the mn and thse wh saw them wuld be rewarded with gd frtune.
4)EgyptiansThe ancient Egyptians celebrated their harvest festival in hnr f Min, their gd f vegetatin and fertility. The festival was held in the springtime, the Egyptian's harvest seasn.The festival f Min featured a parade in which the Pharah(法老) tk part. After the parade a great feast was held. Music, dancing, and sprts were als part f the celebratin.When the Egyptian farmers harvested their crn, they wept and pretended t be grief-stricken. This was t deceive the spirit which they believed lived in the crn. They feared the spirit wuld becme angry when the farmers cut dwn the crn where it lived.
5)CanadaThanksgiving in Canada is celebrated n the secnd Mnday in Octber. Observance f the day began in 1879.While Americans begin gearing up fr Thanksgiving in the days fllwing Hallween, Thanksgiving celebratins in Canada are lng since ver by Octber 31st. That's because in Canada, Thanksgiving is celebrated n the secnd Mnday in Octber. Unlike Americans, whse hliday recalls the Pilgrims landing in America, Canadians spend their Thanksgiving giving thanks fr a successful harvest, which typically culminates by early Octber in the nrthern cuntry f Canada
Canadian Thanksgiving traces its rts t an ld Eurpean farming custm f banding tgether t tast a plentiful harvest. After hundreds f years f unfficial celebratin, the Canadian Parliament fficially recgnized the flk practice in 1957.
