In the early twentieth century, peple suffered thrugh many wars. ① When Wrld War Ⅱ was ver, an rganizatin called the United Natins (the UN) was frmed t help cuntries talk abut their prblems instead f fighting. ② That was in 1945. Tday there are 193 member states in the UN. The headquarters f the UN is in New Yrk City. The head f the UN, chsen by all the member states, is called the Secretary General.
The UN Security Cuncil has fifteen members, five f which are permanent members—China, France, Russia, the U. K. and the U. S. ③ Many times since 1945, the UN has sent armies t keep peace between tw fighting cuntries. It helps the situatin, but smetimes it is nt successful. ④
It is nt always easy fr the members t reach an agreement. Just imagine hw difficult it is t satisfy all 193 members! ⑤ Hwever, the UN is still the best way fr the wrld t slve its prblems. ⑥ Let's hpe that the great idea they had in 1945 t prevent war will last frever. ⑦Wrds—even angry wrds—are always better than war!
