The best known quality of the British is "reserve"(内向,矜持).A reserved person does not talk very much to strangers (陌生人)or show their feelings. You may work with him for years without even knowing where he lives and how many children he has. If they are on a train with a stranger, they may travel many miles without starting a conversation. If a conversation does start, questions like "How old are you?" or even "What is your name?" are not easily asked. But they may be quite happy when a friendly stranger or foreigner breaks the barrier (障碍) down. Moreover, people of the North and West are much less reserved than those of the South and East.
The British are also famous for their English modesty. They are not less proud than anybody else, but self-praise is felt to be impolite. If a person is very good at tennis and someone asks him if he is a good player, he will seldom reply "Yes". He may give an answer like "I'm not bad" or "Well, I'm very fond of tennis".
The English sense of humour is also well known. "He has no sense of humour" is often heard in England. A sense of humour is an attitude (态度)to life. They have the ability to laugh at themselves when they fail or make mistakes. But they do not laugh at disabled or unlucky persons.
Finally, sportsmanship (体育精神)is also an important quality of the British. Football, tennis and many other sports were all first organized and given rules in Britain.
Sportsmanship is the ability to obey the rules when they practise a sport, while also keep generous and calm when they lose the game. Moreover, sportsmanship is also shown in British life.

Different colours can affect us in many different ways; that’s according to Verity Allen. In a new programme “Colour me Healthy”, Verity looks at the ways that colours can influence how hard we work and the choices we make. They can even change our emotions and even influence how healthy we are.
“Have you ever noticed how people always use the same colours for the same things?” says Verity. “Our toothpaste is always white or blue or maybe red. It’s never green. Why not? For some reason we think that blue and white is clean, while we think of green products(产品)as being a bit unpleasant. It’s the same for businesses. We respect a company which writes its name in blue or black, but we don’t respect one that uses pink or orange. People who design(设计)new products can use these ideas to influence what we buy.”
During the programme, Verity studies eight different colours, two colours in each part. She meets people who work in the colour industry, from people who design food packages, to people who name the colours of lipsticks. Some of the people she meets clearly have very little scientific knowledge to prove their ideas, such as the American “Colour Doctor” who believes that serious diseases can be treated successfully by the use of coloured lights. However, she also interviews real scientists who are studying the effects of green and red lights on mice, with some surprising results.
Overall, it’s an interesting show, and anyone who watches it will probably find out something new. But because Verity goes out of her way to be polite to everyone she meets on the programme, it’s up to you to make your own decisions about how much you should believe.
( ) 61.What’s Verity’s opinion about colours?
A.Colours help people choose products.
B.Different people prefer different colours.
C.Colours have influences on people in many ways.
D.People working in colour industry know little about colours.
( ) 62. What can you infer from Paragraph 2?
A.The knowledge of colours is important to designers and businesses.
B.Colours can help people choose the best products.
C.New products are popular because of their bright colours.
D.People should try products of different colours.
( ) 63.Which of these about the American “Colour Doctor” is true?
A. He is a real scientist B. He cannot prove his ideas
C. He designs food packages D. He studies animals like mice.
( ) 64. What colour is always our toothpaste?
A. green or blue B. green or white C. white or blue D. black or red
( ) 65. What’s the passage mainly about?
A. How people use colours. B . A new study about colours and health.
C. A new programme about colours. D. How colours help treat serious diseases.

Incandescent light bulbs(白炽灯泡) were invented 100 years ago. They have been very useful in the past years. However, they always waste energy. Most of the energy they use is turned into heat, but not light.
In order to protect the environment and save energy, we need to use new kinds of lamps. LED lamps are one of them. Most LED lamps are much more expensive than incandescent light bulbs. They usually cost between $10 and $50 each. However, the energy savings makes up(弥补) for the higher cost. After working only a year or two, LED lamps can pay for themselves by saving energy fees. After that, extra energy savings are putting money in your pocket.
Many people don’t like early LED lamps. The products’ poor light quality and high price are not high in people’s mind. However, fast invention by major factories has driven prices down and quality up. Today’s LED lamps can provide excellent colour quality, excellent energy savings (16% or less of an incandescent light lamp), and very long life--- sometimes they will be useful in tens of years!
Besides this, LED lamps are changing the way people experience lighting. LED lamps use the same basic technology as the LED displays on your TV, cell phone or computer, but have a more familiar bulb shape. They can change their colours and have remote control abilities.
根据上面短文内容,回答下列问题。
86. When were incandescent light bulbs invented?
87. What’s the disadvantage of incandescent light bulbs?
88. How much does a LED lamp cost according to the passage?
89. Which of the two costs you more after buying and using an incandescent light bulbs and a LED lamp half a year?
90. Do the early LED lamps have better quality than today’s LED lamps?

How do students spend their spare time after finishing their homework? Watch TV, play computer games, or go outside to relax? Here’s a good example.
Tim and Kerry Meek are both teachers. They live in the UK with their two daughters: eleven-year-old Amy and nine-year-old Ella. Recently, the Meek family has become the focus of the whole country after they completed 100 different outdoor activities in one year. The Meek couple didn’t want their children to spend all their free time in front of the TV and become “couch tomatoes”. So about one year ago, the Meeks decided that watching TV and playing computer games were not permitted. Instead, they set 100 tasks for the two girls to do outside. Although Mr. and Mrs. Meek are not outdoor activity fans, they took part in all the activities to encourage their daughters. It turns out that the two sisters really had a good time joining activities. Every holiday and weekend, whether it’s sunny, rainy or snowy, the Meeks’ would set off to try the activities on their list, including hiking, sailing, climbing, skiing, and so on. The two little girls not only had a wonderful time, but also learned a lot of skills from the activities. They were even able to stand up in front of their school to give a talk for charity. “Our friends spend a lot of their free time doing things which are harmful to their health. Luckily, we’ve had the chance to experience something different.” Amy and Ella also helped their parents to draw up a new list of challenges for the next 12 months.
So we should do more outdoor exercises to keep healthy in our spare time.
91. What are Tim and Kerry Meek?
92. Why did the Meeks become the focus of the UK?
93. When did the Meeks go out to do the activities?
94. What did the two little girls learn from the activities?
95. What should we do to keep healthy in our spare time?
