I think that I always knew I wanted t becme an artist. I can't remember a time when I wasn't drawing r painting pictures. My ldest sister and my brther were artistic, and watching them draw fascinated me. They had many different art supplies arund the huse. Bxes f pastels, little ink bttles and pens were very appealing.
My parents and friends sn saw that I had mre than a passing interest in art. It came t define much f my image. Relatives gave me art﹣related birthday gifts. At schl I became "the kid wh culd draw, " a unique distinctin, like "brainiest" r "best athlete".
As I gt a little lder, I began cpying pictures: cartns, cmic bks, and magazine illustratins.
My third﹣grade class wrte essays n what we wanted t be when we grew up. T me it was bvius. We read them alud, and I tld abut the types f paintings I wuld sme day try. I'd have turtles with paintbrushes tied t their backs walking arund n a big sheet f paper. Or I'd fill squirt guns with different clred paints and sht at the canvas. I actually tried this with friends! Well, it sunded like a gd idea.
One f the nly discuraging childhd experiences abut my artwrk happened in the furth grade. During study time I was drawing a picture. My teacher tk it away and wrte an angry nte hme t my mther. "David wuld rather be drawing pictures than ding his wrk!!!" I culdn't believe it, three exclamatin pints. Schl "art classes" were pretty uninspiring. Art never seemed t be taken as seriusly as ther subjects.
In the eighth grade, a big career day was held. Mnths befre, we wrte suggestins fr careers we wanted t hear abut. On the big day, guest speakers frm many fields came t talk, but there wasn't ne that came clse t an art﹣related field.
In high schl it actually sank in that I was ging t be an artist. I already knew. I'd always knwn. My parents were excited abut my chice, t. As I lked int art schls, I felt like drs were being thrwn wide pen. Until then my art was a private thing, but at art schl I fund a place where everyne as "the kid wh culd draw."

The wrld is full f distractins. If yu wrk in an ffice, it might be emails, phne calls r clleagues with questins t ask, which take yur attentin away frm what yu are ding r thinking abut. If yu are at hme, it might be the cntents f the fridge r a sudden fixatin n dust mites (尘螨) under the sfa. Smetimes it takes even less. If yu are sitting and ding wrk and smene near yu says smething particularly interesting, that can pull yur fcus. If yu are nt careful, yu will end up yur day with nthing accmplished.
S, hw can we stay fcused in ur wandering minds? Switching ff email r messaging services helps. And put yur smart phne and ther irrelevant screens away﹣they attract yur attentin even if they are ff. If yu tend t pp n headphnes and use music t shut ut distractins, avid listening t anything familiar. Knwing the wrds r tune well will distract yu even mre.
Nt all distractins are bad, hwever. If yu are ding smething repetitive like stuffing envelpes r laying bricks, being distracted by listening t music r engaging in a cnversatin with a c﹣wrker can ultimately increase prductivity. Creativity can benefit frm distractin t. Jihae Shin, nw at the university f Wiscnsin﹣Madisn, has fund that when peple played Minesweeper fr five minutes befre cming up with new business ideas, they were mre creative than thse wh didn't play.
Switching between tasks can als help. In general, this is the enemy f prductivity: it encurages mistakes, stps us frm cmpleting things, prmtes frgetfulness and lwers the quality f writing. But when we are trying t cme up with creative slutins, task﹣switching distractins can help prevent "cgnitive fixatin" n ineffective appraches. S if yu are a creative type, try lining up tw r mre tasks and spend yur day switching between them.

D. It will help t cme up with new ideas..
(3)What des the passage mainly talk abut?________

Last year, Americans spent ver $30 billin at retail(零售) stres in the mnth f December alne. Aside frm purchasing hliday gifts, mst peple regularly buy presents fr ther ccasins thrughut the year, including weddings, birthdays, anniversaries, graduatins, and baby shwers. This frequent experience f gift﹣giving can generate ________ feelings in gift﹣givers. Many believe that gift﹣giving ffers a pwerful means t build strnger bnds with ne's clsest peers. At the same time, many wrry that their purchases will disappint rather than delight the intended receivers.
Anthrplgists describe gift﹣giving as a psitive scial prcess, serving varius plitical, religius, and psychlgical functins. Ecnmists, hwever, ffer a less favrable view. They think that gift﹣giving represents an bjective waste f resurces. Peple buy gifts that receivers wuld nt chse t buy n their wn, r at least nt spend as much mney t purchase. Givers are likely t spend $100 t purchase a gift that receivers wuld spend nly $80 t buy themselves.
What is surprising is that gift﹣givers have cnsiderable experience acting as bth gift﹣givers and gift﹣receivers, but nevertheless tend t verspend each time they set ut t purchase a meaningful gift. In the present research, psychlgists find a unique explanatin fr this verspending prblem﹣gift﹣givers equate hw much they spend with hw much receivers will appreciate the gift. Althugh a link between gift price and feelings f appreciatin might seem relevant t gift﹣givers, such an assumptin may be unfunded. Indeed, we find that gift﹣receivers will be less willing t base their feelings f appreciatin n the gift price than givers assume.
The thughts f gift﹣givers and gift﹣receivers being unable t accunt fr the ther party's perspective seems puzzling because peple slip in and ut f these rles every day. Yet, despite the extensive experience that peple have as bth givers and receivers, they ften struggle t transfer infrmatin gained frm ne rle and apply it in anther.
(1)What des the underlined wrd "________" in Para.1 prbably mean?________
A. CncernedB. Cnflicting.C. Negative.D. Psitive.
(2)What can we learn frm Para.3?________
A. Gift﹣receivers link their appreciatin clsely t the gift cst.
B. Persnal preferences are the least t be cnsidered.
C. The assumptin made by gift﹣givers is incrrect.
D. Gift﹣giving is a prcess f wasting resurces..
(3)Accrding t the authr, the different thughts between the gift﹣givers and receivers are caused by________.
A. a trend f verspending
B. an inability t shift perspective
C. a grwing ppsitin t gift﹣giving
D. a misunderstanding f intentin.

(2)D. Nt all distractins are bad, hwever。。。they were mre creative than thse wh didn't play.
(3)A. The wrld is full f distractins. Nt all distractins are bad.

Many believe that gift﹣giving ffers a pwerful means t build strnger bnds with ne's clsest peers. A. Cncerned关心的;B. Cnflicting矛盾的,冲突的;C. Negative消极的;D. Psitive积极的。故选B.
(2)C. 推理判断题。根据第三段"Althugh a link between gift price and feelings f appreciatin might seem relevant t gift﹣givers, such an assumptin may be unfunded. Indeed, we find that gift﹣receivers will be less willing t base their feelings f appreciatin n the gift price than givers assume.虽然礼品价格和感激之情之间的联系似乎与送礼者有关,但这种假设可能是没有根据的。事实上,我们发现礼物接受者不太愿意将他们的感激之情建立在礼物价格之上,而不是送礼者想象的那样。"可知我们能从第3段能了解到送礼者的假设是不正确的。故选C.
(3)B. 推理判断题。根据最后一段"The thughts f gift﹣givers and gift﹣receivers being unable t accunt fr the ther party's perspective seems puzzling because peple slip in and ut f these rles every day. 送礼者和受礼者无法从对方的角度来考虑问题,这种想法似乎令人费解,因为每天都有人从这些角色中溜进溜出。"可知作者认为,送礼者和接受者之间的不同想法是由于无法转换观点而造成的。故选B.

We see the wrld thrugh her eyes.(在电脑游戏中,你可能救了一个公主,但你并不关心她,你只想赢。 上文中"there had been a 48% decrease in empathy amng cllege students"可对应到G选项中this。故G选项"鼓励阅读可以克服这个问题"符合语境,故选G。
(4)B.逻辑关系题。根据上文"As a matter f fact, reading is far frm a passive activity. Reading exercises the whle brain.
