Canberra 堪培拉
堪培拉是举世闻名的花园城市。它四周是美丽的山岭，并为松林翠柏所环抱，街道纵横交错，井井有条，美观舒畅，郊区地带与自然乡村毗连，景色秀丽优雅，环境清新宁静，堪称现代城市规划的结晶。   澳大利亚是个只有200多年历史的国家，而堪培拉是个只有50多年历史的新都市。   
1908年堪培拉被选为首都后就面向国际招标新的建筑设计方案，美国建筑师波利·古瑞芬竞得设计权。他把城市设计成特有的环圈形，由市中心向四周放射。1911年，澳大利亚政府从新南威尔士州划分出2357平方公里土地，创立了澳大利亚首领地作为澳大利亚首都所在地。现在，首领地的大多数居民都在堪培拉工作与生活。
堪培拉是悉尼与墨尔本两大城市在半个多世纪前争夺首都之冠失败后，作为妥协而建立的。它位于两大城市中间，距离悉尼328公里，距离墨尔本690公里。    首都领地有三种不同的地形：北部城区位于波浪起伏的丘陵低地，大部分地区海拔低于600米；墨蓝比吉河的众多支流流经的山地地区的海拔则逐渐升至1200米；首领地的南部和最西部则是由陡峭的山脊和山峰构成的高地，海拔在1800米以上。
包括堪培拉市在内的首领地低地区域全年平均降水量为630毫米，全年降水量分布不均。冬季通常会有小雪。由西吹向西北方向的大风也很常见。堪培拉的平均最高气温为19.7°C，历史最高气温为42.2°C，平均最低气温6.9°C，历史最低气温为-10°C。
