The piece was written by Sandra Martin-Chang, prfessr f educatin, and PhD student Stephanie Kzak. Martin-Chang and Kzak used a scale called the Predictrs f Leisure Reading ( PLR) t investigate reading behavir ( mtivatins, bstacles, attitudes and interests). They then examined hw well the PLR predicted the language skills £ 200 undergraduate students, with all data gathered at Yrk University. The researchers nte that the age range f the subjects in the study is f key interest. In early adulthd, reading becmes self-directed rather than impsed by thers, which makes this a key time t develp ne's wn reading habits.
