The signs appeared practically overnight. They’d been planted everywhere—in front of homes, along sidewalks, around the local high school. Each featured just a few uplifting words in simple black type: “Don’t Give Up,” “You Are Worthy of Love,” “Your Mistakes Do Not Define You.” The high school in Newberg, Oregon, had lost four students and three former graduates to kill themselves that year, so the town of 25, 000 instantly understood the messages.
Amy Wolff had done so, in part, because she’d lost her own teenage brother in an accident about 20 years earlier. It was compassion (同情) for compassion’s sake.
Yet as Wolff saw the deep emotion her sign inspired in her neighbors, she decided to step forward to share her message publicly. Instantly, her inbox was flooded with requests for more signs. Since then, the Don’t Give Up Movement has spread from Newberg to the hearts and yards of people in every state. Wolff charges only the cost of materials and shipping. “It’s a terrible business decision if we wanted to function like a business,” she says.
Chrisanne Moger commented on one of the movement’s posts about the need for one particular sign, “We’re All in This Together.” She thought it would really speak to a world huddling together under the cloud of COVID-19. Wolff agreed, and she received 750 orders within a week of its creation. A mother in Colorado, unable to travel during the quarantine (隔离), contacted the organization after her stepson’s sudden death. “I saw one of your signs recently and it was a touching message from above to hang on.” she wrote.
Aware of the added emotional challenges isolation brings, the Don’t Give Up Movement has since offered to send handwritten letters of support to anyone in quarantine who needs it.
24.Why did the signs suddenly appear everywhere in Newberg?
    A.They featured some inspiring words.
B.The high school had lost several students.
    C.They conveyed simple messages.
D.The outbreak of COVID-19 scared people.
25.What do you know about the Don’t Give Up Movement?
    A.It is a non-profit organization.
B.It met all requests of neighbors.
C.It gradually won the hearts of people.
D.It was started in honor of Amy’s brother.
26.What effect do the messages from the posts have?
    A.They bring emotional challenges.
    B.They offer great encouragement.
    C.They provide information for COVID-19.
    D.They improve interpersonal relationships.
27.What do you think of Amy Wolff?
A.She’s active and open-minded. B.She’s talkative and sociable.
C.She’s decisive and ambitious. D.She’s selfless and devoted.

TikTok is a fun, silly place. To scroll through(浏览)it is to take in a fantastic amount of people dancing and lip-syncing(对 口 型). There's a video of Cameron Diaz s wine drinking challenge, a very polite kid named Grey, and a clip from Taylor Swift's "Love Story" that you'll hear way too much. It's addictive and ridiculous.
But the platform has been in the news lately for reasons relating to privacy and security. What you're hearing in the news may force you to wonder if the app is safe to use? The short answer is that it's probably completely fine for most people to be on TikTok, as long as they keep in mind that, just as with other social media apps, it hoovers up data.
Platforms like TikTok and Instagram collect personal information from users with different levels of transparency(透明度),points out Shuman Ghosemajumder, an internet security company. The first level is information that you're clearly aware you're sharing with them. This includes the email or account you used to sign up for the app, and of course the content you actively share on the platform.
The next level is data you may not be aware an app is collecting—such as details like your IP address and information about your device and its operating system. TikTok says in its privacy policy that it is also “scanning and analyzing” the messages you send over the platform.
Finally, the third category of data collection is the criminal kind which experts search carefully apps to find. But Ghosemajumder says it's extremely difficult for an app like TikTok to hide that. Has TikTok done that? Ghosemajumder says he knows of no evidence that it has.
Let common sense be your guide if you're using an app like TikTok. If you don't want thousands of people to watch you dancing in your living room with your family, then don't upload a video that shows just that. Ultimately, Ghosemajumder doesn't see much daylight between TikTok and its competitors. "There's no fundamental difference in using TikTok versus using Instagram," Ghosemajumder reflects.
28.Which of the following may belong to the third category of data collection?
A.Information about your phone. B.Military information for government.
C.A video of yourself uploaded to TikTok. D.Your message to friends over the platform.
29.What is Ghosenmajumder's attitude to the use of TikTok?
    A.Doubtful. B.Supportive. C.Objective. D.Disapproving.
30.Why is Instagram mentioned in the passage?
A.To show that TikTok is as safe as Instagram.
B.To show that TikTok is better than Instagram.
C.To show that Instagram is different from TikTok.
D.To show that TikTok and Instagram are both popular.

A Plastic Ocean is a film to make you think. Think, and then act. We need to take action on our dependence on plastic. We’ve been producing plastic in huge quantities. Drinking bottles, shopping bags and even clothes are made with plastic. 31. What happens to all the rest? This is the question the film A Plastic Ocean answers.
The film begins as a journey to film the largest animal on the planet, the blue whale. But during the journey the filmmakers make the shocking discovery of a huge, thick layer of plastic floating in the Indian Ocean. 32. In total, they visited 20 locations around the world during the four years to make the film.
In the film there are beautiful shots of the seas and marine life. 33. We see how marine species are being killed by all the plastic we are dumping in the ocean. The message about our use of plastic is painfully obvious.
    34. In the second half, the filmmakers look at what we can do to deal with the problem.
They present short-term and long-term solutions. These include avoiding plastic containers and recycle as much as you can. The filmmakers also stress the need for governments to work more on recycling programmes.
We make a shocking amount of plastic. Over 300 million tons of plastic are produced every year, and at least 8 million of those are dumped into the oceans. The results are disastrous, but it isn’t too late to change. 35.
A.This causes them to travel around the world to look at other affected areas.
B.Once you’ve seen the film, you’ll realize it is time to do our part.
C.It has raised public concern all over the world.
D.We live in a world full of plastic, and only a small amount is recycled.
E.But the film doesn’t only present the negative side.
F.In conclusion, we only have one earth to live on.
G.These are contrasted with dumps of plastic rubbish.

As phone calls became 53 , then cheap, the flow of letters became 54 and eventually stopped. But that was not the case today. Today there was something truly special, which takes me to my most 55 task at hand, “Dear Audrey…”

When I worked as a nurse, I was on day duty and while my friends were on night duty. On one shift, I remember I sensed something just before going off duty at 11am. I had brought the ward sister her morning tea, so I put down the tea tray. The tray rattled and fell through the window. At first I thought I had accidentally knocked it over, but then I felt the whole building shook and patients screamed.
I realized that we were in the grips of a tremendous earthquake. I caught hold of a nearby patient, who was terribly frightened by it. I pushed her under the bed and held the bed in place while I got under it myself. I then pulled a blanket down between us. As soon as it settled, I decided to try and get the patient safely outside, I carried her out and helped her down to the lawn, where several other people now had gathered.
I knew the ward sister was with another patient, so I went back inside the building. When I reached the ward sister, I found her patient couldn’t walk. We made a seat for her by linking our hands and arms, and carried her outside together. We went back through the building to check no one was left behind. Almost all of the patients had been able to get themselves out of our ward, as far as I knew.
Once our ward was cleared, a doctor called for volunteers to go down to the isolation ward with him to help more people. Another nurse and I went down there. The first thing we saw was a bath in the hallway, We came to the ruined ward. The doctor went in ahead of us through the remains of what had been a doorway. He found one of the nurses partially covered with rubble (碎石). She was still alive so we began to clear the rubble away. Suddenly the aftershock struck. The doctor ordered us to leave. Welcome back to America Today. I'm Dr Johnson. We've just finished talking about people's expectations about the economy and now let’s turn our attention to education. You may wonder what American parents are looking for when they are deciding where to send their children for college. Well, a couple of generations ago parents basically chose schools for their children. But nowadays, many teenagers are more likely to have a final say about where they end up. So what do students actually want in a college? Actually, they are looking for more than just good professors and a beautiful campus. Students today want to communicate with the people from different countries and cultures. They are more curious than ever about outside points of view. Also, technology is playing a more important role. Visitors to campuses around America expect to see the latest technology in lecture halls, labs, and even in places like dining halls and bookstores. What's more important, though, is access to social activities. Sports and clubs on campus are great, but if there are no movie theatres, bars, restaurants, clubs, or stadiums nearby, you are going to have a hard time getting 21st century American teenagers to go anywhere near that campus.

Drinking bottles, shopping bags and even clothes are made with plastic.(我们一直在大量生产塑料。 可知我们在制造大量的塑料,生活在一个充满塑料的世界;结合下文“What happens to all the rest? This is the question the film A Plastic Ocean answers.(剩下的呢?
    32.

But during the journey the filmmakers make the shocking discovery of a huge, thick layer of plastic floating in the Indian Ocean.(影片开始于拍摄地球上最大的动物蓝鲸的旅程。 以及下文“In total, they visited 20 locations around the world during the four years to make the film.(在拍摄这部电影的四年时间里,他们总共造访了世界各地的20个地点。) 符合语境,选项中的this指代上文提到的“the shocking discovery of a huge, thick layer of plastic floating in the Indian Ocean”。故选A项。
    33.

The message about our use of plastic is painfully obvious.(我们看到海洋物种是如何被我们倾倒在海洋中的塑料所杀死的。
    34.
根据上一段提到这部电影展现出了大量的垃圾倒进海里的消极一面,结合下文“ In the second half, the filmmakers look at what we can do to deal with the problem.(在影片的后半段,电影制作人将着眼于如何解决这个问题。)”
    35.
根据前文“We make a shocking amount of plastic. Over 300 million tons of plastic are produced every year, and at least 8 million of those are dumped into the oceans. The results are disastrous, but it isn’t too late to change.(我们制造的塑料数量惊人。每年有超过3亿吨的塑料被生产出来,其中至少有800万吨被倒入了海洋。结果是灾难性的,但现在改变还为时未晚。)”可知我们制造了太多的塑料垃圾,结果将会是灾难性的,但改变为时未晚。由此推知,在看过这部电影后,我们会意识到是时候发挥自己的作用了。B项“一旦你看过这部电影,你就会意识到是时候做我们的工作了。”符合语境,故选B项。

    67.Possible version one:
We were determined to save the nurse with him together. We were faced with falling rubble from time to time, but not as much as before. We were as stubborn as ever, following the doctor. The trapped nurse was still alive. We focused our efforts on freeing from the ruins. Once she was free, the doctor guided us through the remains safely. He kept a perfectly calm tone throughout, which helped soothe me.my heart leaped with joy as we successfully walked out of the building. All of the survivors’ gratitude was profound, passionate and boundless.
Later in the afternoon I had time to look around, and saw the ruined building .I felt like I was floating in an ocean of sadness. In my mind’s eye I saw the original building that I worked in, so massive and beautiful, and the memories filled me with unbearable sadness. The doctor stood beside me and said with a faint smile, “We should be happy for those who survive the earthquake.” I managed to smile back as the wind danced around us, and I felt lucky to be alive. (160 words)
    Possible version two:
We were determined to save the nurse with him together. Fortunately, the aftershock wasn’t strong. Once it had passed, we focused our efforts on freeing the nurse. We removed the bricks and the rubble that trapped her body. A sharp stone cut my hand. The sharp pain made to want to cry, but I managed to hold back. Because in this horrible earthquake, what we could do was only struggling to grasp a chance of surviving for her. It seemed like an eternity before we freed her from the rubble. We carried her outside to the lawn.
Later in the afternoon I had time to look around, and saw the ruined building. My beautiful workplace now lay beyond recognition (lay in ruins) The only thing that remained was broken walls amidst the dim dust. I felt a weight on my chest as the sadness swelled inside. My musings were interrupted by the noise around me. The rescue team was working against the clock to get people out of the rubble alive. The patients were evacuated in an orderly manner. Looking up at the sky, I saw the sun’s dazzling light was shining down on the remain and sprinkling the streets.(175words)
